I started bowling on duckpins, when I was 6 years old. Until you've actually done it, it's hard to understand how incredibly difficult duckpin bowling is. You have practically zero margin for error, and strikes are exceedingly rare.

that's part of what makes the game interesting. With regular bowling, most professional bowlers could realistically get a very high scoring game, while in duckpin even the best bowlers have to fight for spares

Candlepin is the same way, although you can get lucky with more spares due to deadwood. Both duckpin and candlepin are bowling on hard more lol

I did 3 games of duckpin bowling when I was in Maryland, and I was shocked I was able to get 2 strikes.

@@Telcontar86Wood hurts as much as it helps in Candlepin. Duckpin is much easier to strike, with a slightly larger ball, and much fatter pins.

If you have never tried it, go candlepin bowling. You might redefine the meaning of the word "difficult." On an average five-man team on a given night, you might not see more than a couple strikes the whole night.

Serious question … is there a lob line rule in duckpin bowling? I’m a Candlepin guy and it looked like Matt A. lobbed a couple of times.

Why do they throw straight on, rather than throwing their opening shots from an angle to avoid this pick shots that only take out 1-2 pins?

more energy, duckpin balls don't hold energy as well since they're considerably lighter so they're just tryna smack into the pins as hard as possible while staying accurate

@ericarrick6365 I get that, bit why not come into the pocket from more of an angle? I don't mean hook or spin, I mean just stand right or left and cone in at a slight angle? It is less chance of picking pins

@@JonHop1 good idea. I've only ever been duckpin bowling once. I feel there's probably a lot of untapped strategy in the duckpin world just because it's a lot less widespread and is usually very casual.

As someone who has bowled tenpins and duckpins for years. Some of you don't have a clue the pins are in the exact same spots as tenpins and the lanes are the same but. Because the pins are smaller. There's more gap between the pins so.in most cases. Throwing the ball with a sharp hook like tenpins may not always work .as for some here posting that rhe game is more " casual " for years when the p.b.a had a tour stop in the Md - Dc area the used to have challenge matches with tenpin pros bowling against the pro duckpiners in both forms of bowling the duckpiners could put up good games against the the pros in tenpin but.the tenpin pros got clobbered in duckpins
