Historic for the men's team, sure. But U.S. Soccer has done very well. The women's team has won 4 world cups, 4 Olympic golds and finished 2nd and 3rd in each a few times. Great win, for sure. But U.S. soccer is comprised to 2 teams.

@@BasilBuchko England just recently won the women's European Cup and despite the bbc trying to push it as a really big thing ppl simply didn't really care. Winning the women's European Cup in no way made up for losing the mens final a year previously. Yes it is sad but it is the truth. Women's football is becoming more popular but it will never mean as much as the men's game.
@mrdarren1045
@mrdarren1045 Жыл бұрын
@@BasilBuchko I really want the USA to do well in the WC because it would be better for the global game if the USA took it more seriously and became one of the big football powers. The money and the audience they would bring in would be huge for football. They seem to be the only nation on earth that doesn't have football as their number one sport. We have lots of sports in England. Cricket is big so is Rugby and tennis and boxing and golf but football is bigger than all those sports combined. And I think that's probably true of 99% of all other countries. The USA must one day start taking it more seriously because they're really missing out. Nothing beats supporting your country at a world cup. No other sport can do that like football. Plus you don't have to be a physical freak to play it like you do in basketball or nfl. It's entirely skill not physique. So I think it's inevitable that the USA will eventually adopt it as their number one sport as well. All they need is a really good run at the world cup to ignite the American ppl.
@kingkongdong6074

@@mrdarren1045occer is not gonna over take basketball or nfl in US for the next decade or so. However, I think there is a reasonable chance it could be more popular than baseball or hockey. I think Latin American influence will play a big part of that change. As someone in Florida, I only watched/liked soccer cause I was friends with a kid from Ecuador. Idk if soccer will ever be number 1, but if it ever does happen, I think it is gonna have be gradual and it would most likely start with this generation of kids. Rereading this comment I realize I probably have bias being from Florida and not someone from the south or the north, so take my opinion with a grain of salt lol

Usa have scored 2 against the same opposition England have scored 9. I doubt the usa are gonna go much further. England are only just starting their WC but usa have really struggled against Wales and Iran. England cruised past both. Its a good job for usa that England only needed to draw that game cause if they had 100% needed to win and gone all out to win they would have been very vs USA.

It's not that crazy. Big sports media in the US does a great job with marketing. In the US we feel like we have to watch the big game. We've been told that soccer is for foreigners and sissies by ESPN sports anchors for years. They do a good job including patriotism in our sports as well. It doesn't shock me that a man who makes his living as a sports pundit in the US has never watched a soccer match. It has been the norm for years.

@@Erik-ij5jb They are going after the European market now as well. I don't think the English will fall for this illusion of fluidity we call the NFL - but who knows? The marketing and pizzazz is top notch. NHL markets hard here in the US and no one really watches it.They do a good job making Americans believe that it is a domestic sport. I don't think I know anyone who even knows the rules of hockey.
