2022 Genesis GV70 First Drive Review - IS THIS THE NEW BENCHMARK?

When Genesis launched, they said they would launch 3 sedans and later one 2 SUVs. Earlier this year the GV80 was launched and they've saved the best for last, the GV70. With a knockout style, standard AWD, twin turbo power and a an impeccable interior, I'm sure you'll be seeing lots of these on the road very soon. What do you think of the new 2022 Genesis GV70? Leave a comment below.

Just ordered mine. Black with black interior. My observation on the test drive was how well the sound laminated glass kept the noise down for a small SUV on bigger rims. I found that generally adding the same equipment (HUD, limited-slip differential, adaptive driving features, Nappa leather, monoblock brakes, 360 camera, etc) the GV70 was 10-15% less expensive. The blind spot camera is great, the adaptive cruise was one of the best I test drove. The downside is that 375 HP isn't as powerful as it sounds, this is a balance between a smooth luxury ride and performance. The M40 or AMG GLC may be quicker but when you don't want to race this is a smoother ride, cheaper, better warranty. It's easy to see how the Genesis designers had previously been Bentley designers. Like all cars design preferences are personal, I personally loved the look, loved the ride, and it'll be nice to not be another X3, GLC, Q5 on the road.

Brian - another FANTASTIC detailed review - Luv your reviews. Why you don't have more subs ... I just SMH. Hey all - I'm a guy who loves cars and puts a little effort to research and drive a handful of new ones/yr here in Vancouver, Canada. I know what's available for me in the Western Canada market. This GV70 is by far ... the BEST Value out there in this price pt. This Sport Plus trim level w/ the 3.5 L TT is so far superior to others in this segment at this price. Sure the GLC 63S & X3M 4.0 are much quicker, faster (if it didn't have a limiter) and the glorious sound from the engine & exhaust are the BEST in the biz but also are about $25-$35K more expensive. This GV70 will do 0-60 in about 4.9 seconds, sounds pretty good but really has knocked it out of the park with its looks, tech and luxury features and at that price pt. Excellent design Exterior & Interior choices. For the review it would've been cool to see some night shots/video. My wish list would be for cooled rear seats, a control button to raise the rear seats (from a down position) from the back, massaging front passenger seat, heated & cooled front cup holders, rubber strips in the rear cargo with the carpet (like the X6M has) and the 4.0 AMG TT engine like the GLC 63S has. Also, I don't know if it has an app but would love the option to cool down the car in summer & heat it up in winter before entering it.. PLUS a hybrid system (30 kms real world mileage) like the GLE top models has so I won't have to idle in park to work systems as the battery system would handle all that. Overall, its a FANTASTIC option in this segment and remember that the maintenance is included for 5 yrs:-) No... I'm not President of Genesis Canada just appreciate value. What I don't like about Genesis in the no haggle price on New vehicles. I can't even get floor mats at a discount. oh well... HAGO:-)

Im new to the Genesis Brand. Our house has always had a GLE or GLS and C63. We gave up the GLE for a GV80. We could not be happier. The ride, fit and finish and overall quality is impressive. Genesis may not have the badge recognition of its German competitors but don't be fooled, these SUVs are true contenders in their segment. No they don't have the punch or sporty ride that Audi S line or Mercedes AMG lines have but thats ok...The ride quality in these SUVs for a daily driver is plush, quiet and luxurious. I liked our GV80 so much I just ordered my GV70 3.5T!

You mention yours is the top trim with nappa quilted but in my own attempt at building a top trim with quilted it isn't offered. On parking assist you mentioned that's a feature on higher trim models, is this not the top sports package of a GV70 being shown? I know in the US the top sports package forces you into suede interior which I hate but this is the exterior color I want and same with the all leather black interior but I was lead to believe I couldn't get that. I assumed this was the top sports package because you have the 12 inch digital cluster which is only on the top trim, perhaps in Canada you get more options compared to the US? I need to call Genesis again and get more clarification I suppose
@EverydayReviews2022

Love the colour, hate the black waffle patterned plastic and wish they could offer a carbon fiber finish option on the outside. Don't care much for the black chrome on the sport model. The steering wheel is gorgeous and personally would of wished that the infotaintment screen could retract out of sight for it is an eyesore with the stunning retro design of the dashboard. Also would of preferred a silver finish for the wheels instead of black.

I love it! Now the big question is would you buy one now or wait until next year and get the ev version? I feel like if you buy an ICE car today it’s just dated technology.
@Noah_E
@Noah_E 2 жыл бұрын
I've been looking into EVs, not to replace, but to supplement my fleet since no EV will able to tow 10k of tractor or do long trips without adding hours of time waiting for en route recharges any time soon. My conclusion is for an EV to serve the purpose of an only car it needs a stated range of 500 miles since you aren't supposed to charge to 100 or run too low, so should only use 80% of that and studies have shown AC reduces EV range by up to 17% and 35% for heating. Being generous and assuming only a 15% lose in range 500x.8x.85 =340 miles of real world actual range. 340 miles is the average useable range for most ICE vehicles. At the rate range has been increasing we probably won't get to the 500 mile mark for at least a decade and by then you will have already gotten rid of any ICE you buy today.

We call it Medium SUV which is also what we call Audi Q5, Volvo XC-60 and BMW X3. Compact SUV are Audi Q3 and BMW X1 while sub-compact would be the Hyundai Kona, the Mazda CX-30 and so on. Genesis have a compact SUV releasing this year, but it's electric and called GV60 which is to compete with XC-40. I really hope Genesis release a mild hybrid version of the GV70 next year to improve the mileage. It's electric GV-70 competing with Model Y is not for everyone.

But no one talks about the biggest issue with Genesis. You buy a "luxury" vehicle but have to deal with a Hyundai dealer. I LOVE my G80 but when I take it in for service it is far from a luxury experience. Will never buy another Genesis again unless something changes with the dealers.
@naveenthemachine
@naveenthemachine 2 жыл бұрын
Dealership experience is the least important of this vehicle. Because remember that you ll be DRIVING the vehicle. Not paying to see it showcased a dealer like Jaguar or Land Rover. If that’s what you’re doing, then yes dealership experience is important. But if the whole vehicle is better than brands with better owner experience like Lexus, then the dealership experience can be overlooked. And genesis offers the best warranty and concierge service where they will pick you your car from your place and drop a loaner off
@jason8139
@jason8139 2 жыл бұрын
@@naveenthemachine I was mainly talking about the experience when getting it serviced. Both the dealers in my area have dirty old waiting rooms, no snacks or drinks offered beyond old coffee and water, Genesis offers the concierge service but when you try to use it then it is not available in the area, despite both dealers being less than 20 miles away. They do not guarantee a Genesis loaner for service even though that is a Genesis policy. Hell, they don't wash or even offer to wash the car after service. Luxury car, far from luxury dealer experience. Great care but the Hyundai experience is what you get with service. Still love my G80 Sport.

Is the rear seat alarm going to go off every time I leave a box or grocery bag on the rear seat? Because that would drive me bonkers. Or can it be shut off? Which seems to be a common theme with today's cars- "features" that are dumb and/or annoying and have to be shut off, but you had to pay for them anyway.

You misunderstood. Do your boxes or groceries move? He asked the girls to try not to move. The point is that even when they try to stay still the motion detector senses them.

Seems like just yesterday everyone was hollering and howling for Hyundai to create an offshoot brand. The pivot was inevitable but my mind is on a roller coaster when I hear Brian say they’re 5 years old already. If I was in the market I would get this over the German analog. You’re definitely going to get more for your money and I’m too old to let social influence affect my buying decisions.

@@EverydayReviews2022 that is fine, you are entitled to your opinion. However the fact remains the same that people who buy luxury vehicles do care about the brand name and prestige that is associated with European cars. A fancy dressed Hyundai is STILL a Hyundai and nobody considers it as a luxury vehicle. Check the used market and you see how terribly they depreciate compared to BMW and Mercs.A Casio watch will never ever be a Rolex or Omega replacement for a reason

I understand your point. I’ve owned 3 brand new BMWs so I know German premium brands quite well and believe it or not, I own a Korean car now and it offers more performance, features, and value over any of my Bimmers. Not saying I don’t enjoy them but the fit, finish and materials used on the Genesis car is without a doubt equal if not better than any others in the same price range.

Absolute scam of a car relying on people making poor financial decisions because they won't notice the added cost on your 84 month no money down payment. On the BMW you click the key three times and it remotely starts and preconditions the cabin to what you set up in the menu, not your last set temperature: $300 when you buy the car. On the Genesis you pay $100 a year or $10 a month to have that access. On the Genesis you have to pay $8150 to get the trim with the heated steering wheel. On the BMW it is a $150 option. Any car company that follows Tesla's trend of charging a subscription for features deserves to be spit on. I already pay $35 a month for phone service with internet access. Put a head unit in the car that has carplay and have completely independent climate control and stop making navigation a feature. No one in their right mind wants a car that is always connected to the internet because a cell phone already does that. If you can't afford the I6 BMW buy a FWD economy car with a turbo 4 cylinder and not a "luxury car" that collects your data and uses you as a product.

This is an alert to anyone considering buying a Genesis. Hyundai by any name is a car with a faulty engine. So, don't forget to buy a big bucket to catch spewing oil in. Take it from an owner of a previous "top of the line" Hyundai. They were fundamentally flawed cars with flawed engines. And when your engine seizes up they will blame everything else-the weather, the music you listen to, lol anything. The engines spew oil. If they spew it at such a rate you end up on the road with no oil, they deny the oil leak has anything to do with the problem. Hyundai=faulty engines that spew oil. It might take a couple of years or it might happen immediately. But eventually, and soon, it will spew oil all over the place.

They were flawed 10 years ago, new cars they make are really reliable much more reliable than majority of other brands besides Toyota/Lexus and most importantly they are more reliable than Germans which they compete with

Was looking at & drove the Audi SQ5, BMW X3 40i and X3M comp. The Audi is solid & performance similar to the Genesis 3.5 (perhaps Genesis slightly more dynamic) BMW’s both models are more sporty and obviously the X3M is a beast. I have no intention of tracking these vehicles and the interior quality, infotainment and amenities are far superior in the Genesis.
