I've sort of ridden this ride. Last time I was at Magic Mountain, Goliath was under construction. I got a good view of it by riding Colossus. I have ridden Titan many times which is almost-but-not-quite identical. I've never seen what it looks like from the helix to the last curve because I gray out every time. Thanks for posting the PPOV so I can get a clue.

I’ll try to explain this as simple and understandable as possible. So popular coasters like these at big parks like Magic Mountain need to have a high hourly capacity. Hourly capacity or riders per hour is how many guests can ride the coaster every hour. Large coasters that attract crowds like Goliath need high capacities so they run more than 1 train. That’s where block zones come into play. A block zone is a section of a ride that only one train may occupy. At the end of a block zone is a method to stop a train in case the block zone ahead is occupied. This is how coasters can safely run more than 1 train at once. In this case, the reason the train stopped on the brakes mid ride is because the block zone ahead already had a train in it. Once the train ahead cleared the block zone, the train behind it could proceed forward into the second half of the ride. So yes, you are missing something, it is very needed.

@@dibble1331 Good explanation but wrong situation. Goliath has the mcbr cause of the following helix (but I suppose it does also double as a regular block zone break run) Nowadays it's common to grey out at the helix but before the mcbr would slow or stop the train, people were apparently full on passing out Also is that block run explanation the same one as ElToroRyan (I think that's the person)? Love it.
@dibble13312 жыл бұрын
@@47ratsinahoodie I forgot to mention, the following helixes would be way too intense. Like, Moonsault Scramble’s pretzel knot intense. And I may or may not have stolen the block zone speech from ElToroRyan.

I don't remember the train coming to a complete stop at the mid section, I remember it slowed down to barely have enough speed to continue going. Maybe they changed it.
@joeyclemenza73392 жыл бұрын
that's the break-run. depending o the loading time at the station, sometimes the train will come to a complete stop at the midway point. it's a safety feature.

Great coaster! And the only one that consistently takes me to a near grey-out during that helix.

I remember going on this the first year it came out. At the time Goliath came out it was the tallest full circuit coaster on Earth. It had the tallest drop. A few months later the opening of Millenium Force pretty much made Goliath a forgotten coaster for a lot of people. MIllenium Force was the worlds first Giga coaster. It’s a shame that Magic Mountain still does not have a Giga, but I digress. Goliath was super disappointing when I first rode it. It’s an ok ride now. Very smooth. Not a terrifying first drop for a lot of roller coaster enthusiasts (thoosies) but it’s still a solid drop. Titan at Six Flags Over Texas is very similar to Goliath. There’s some differences about that ride, but the biggest difference is that when you’re on Titan you have an incredible view of the AT&T and the baseball stadiums. It’s pretty awesome. Anyways, thanks for the upload! Maybe Goliath could use a repaint? And they need to fix the misters that they used to have at the bottom of the first drop. Magic Mountain doesn’t maintain the little special effects of their rides and it really shows.

@@LucasKimCARP Can confirm that the drop was a bit disappointing after getting on it yesterday. Though, I’ve recently taken a real liking to rollercoasters, so maybe I’m spoiled by coasters such as X2

The drop definitely isn’t weak 🤦🏾♂️ I don’t know why these people keep saying this and if this drop is weak please tell us about a better drop? You probably going to get a handful of people who say this drop is weak. It’s opinion anyways just go ride the ride yourself but it’s definitely not weak. Might not be the best but definitely not weak 🤦🏾♂️
@HandsomeRob20082 жыл бұрын
@@MrOPM-vc6ow it’s because the trend in the roller coaster world was going for a more forceful drop. A lot of Alan Schilke roller coasters feature a very very steep drop. People have gotten so used to them that we forgot what a less forceful drop (Goliath) was like. People can’t go into Goliath expecting an RMC experience. It’s a totally different experience. Goliath is a coaster that I’ve grown to like more and more as I’ve gotten older.

I miss in the early 2000’s when the break run didn’t have you come to a complete stop. However, I do appreciate that they added a seat belt because when I rode this for first time in May of 2001 I was very tiny my freshman year & I didn’t feel like I was secure enough. I thought I was going to have a heart attack going up that lift hill because I thought I was going to fall out. The rest of the ride was fun though after that freak out.

Rode this when my band took a trip to California, a ton of fun and was one of the first roller coasters I ever went on, tbh idk why people are scared the second time I just looked around at the amazing view up there 10/10

I remember going on this for the first time, I thought it was going to be nothing until I saw the drop. It looks like nothing from the ground but once you’re up there, the whole mood changes which is terrifying. And once it dropped i passed out and then woke up and around ( 3:01) I passed out again.😂😂

The only ride that I've actually almost blacked out on. It was at the part that I was going around in circles sideways, and I started to have temporary blindness, but as soon as it started, the ride went back to normal, and I regained consciousness. Still scary to think about.
