ANS: James Mills is a scottish economist and political philosppher. The indian history was divided into three periods by him to make it easier to know important events in chronological order. The three periods are Hindu, Muslim and British we reject them as it was divided based on religions. Not all rulers beielve in same beilefs and faiths According to James Mill the British rule represented all the forces of progress while the period before British rule in India was one of darkness, ignorance, despotic, etc. If I had 3 three wishes, 1. JAMES MILL divided the HISTORY in 3 broad periods-: 1) Ancient = Hindu Period 2) Mediaeval = Muslim Period 3) Modern = British Period ~ The historians rejected the religion based periodisation because India is a democratic and multi religious country.

There were several problems with the periodization offered by him: 1) The periodization was based on religion.
