I bought a silver '22 hatchback in March of last year. It now has 29k miles on it. I have a 100 mile round trip commute each day. Here are some notes... I am averaging about 45 MPG. My commute is on a fairly flat 2-lane road with very little traffic, so I am able to hyper-mile it by doing 55 mph for 95% of the drive. I generally manually put it in 8th gear once over 50 mph (I know, it's a CVT, but it will let you sport shift it a little bit and I chose to use this function to reduce RPMs whenever possible) and this helps achieve better economy. If I do this consistently, I actually can pinch 52 mpg out of it over the course of the 4 day tank. If the tank were 10 gallons instead of 9, I could get an entire week of commutes (over 500 miles) out of one fill up. The average goes down if I run any errands in it around town, but still, kick ass economy. It is fairly quiet inside. At speeds above 70 mph, there is a little wind and road noise, but otherwise, it is tight. The sound system is actually very good. Nice, rich sound and easy connectivity to my bluetooth. The hands free phone also works well. The seats are pretty comfy for a little car, and it feels bigger inside than it looks. Everything is well placed and intuitive. Within a few hours of driving, I could blindly control anything inside by memory. It is simple and clean, with proper knobs and buttons instead of all the touch screen crap that is more distracting than helpful. The only complaint, and it is understandable because they want to make the car very light, is that the cover over the spare tire is wafer thin. A case of beer will make it sink in. This was easily fixed by adding a thin sheet of plywood to the underside of the cover. Now it's strong and nobody will ever know it had to be reinforced. Mine was listed at $18,995, but the dealer had a $2k "market adjustment", so it was basically $21k before all the crap the dealers hit you with. I paid extra for the 10 year, 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty and OTD it was a bit over $24k. This pissed me off, as this car should literally only cost about $12k msrp, and probably would have about 5 years ago. But these are the times we live in. It is an outstanding little commuter and would be a very nice first car for a teenager.
