Still love watching these boats but it had a much bigger following back in the 70's when Wide World of Sports televised from helicopters in my home town of Owensboro, Ky. Now live in Texas and don't get to see live anymore. Thanks for the video brings back such great memories.

Back in the 80's a movie was made there it featured the the Miss Madison and the hard luck and dedicated crew who did whatever they had to to keep there boat going and how they won the gold cup in Seattle Washington I was a little boy then and i saw that race . Years latter i was a truck driver hauling boats for a living and i had the honor of bringing that boat and the Miss Budweiser to Madison from Seattle to film the movie .It was the first time the people of Madison had seen her in years .As i came into town I blasted my truck horn to announce i was there this was on the 4th of July and i will never forget the moment when i heard the race announcer call out as i approached the the waterfront LADYS AND GENTLMEN I BELIEVE THE MISS MADISON IS HOME . And the crowd of many hundreds of people roared in delight you could hear it throughout the hole town It was one of the many highlights of my driving career .Many of the crazy things they did in the movie are real I know this because i got to meet some of the old crew members who kept that dream alive .throughout the good times and bad .

@@marcuslinton310 it was an exciting final heat watching Corey attempt to claw into Jimmy’s lead. It’s important to remember that the announcers are primarily for the PA system and the fans on the shoreline. They aren’t focused on the stream audio.

Love hydroplanes. Only 4 boats? Man, they are almost done with it. I'm old school. Chip Hanuer, Jim Kropfeld, Miss O'boy O'Berto running the last v-12 merlin, those were the days. These boats all look like the same platform. Like they all are built in the same shop. I assume 210mph is still about the max. I saw Muncie die in San Diego. Old timers here.

Is the boat count down due to the races being in the Midwest or is there not any more boats due to the cost of everything? I'm a past resident of Lake Ozarks and I really want to see this series continue! Is the prize money too low? What's the answer if you would? Thank you

Racing is expensive. Prize money doesn't cover much of anything. Sponsors are hard to get for well covered (TV) events, boats barely make TV so sponsors are barely there. Less people these days wanna risk their lives and just play video games so finding a crew of people who want to give up all their time and money to go have fun is a lot harder now than ever.

Circus Circus Ceo, Bought every Turbine in the country for Chip Hanauer so they could piss off Budweiser? He was already faster with chip, he was just that way WIN or nothing .

They keep talking about Miss Tri Cities. I wonder if this was named after the Tri Cities Washington. The race is on the Columbia River where they have Pasco, Kennewick and Richland. This was only about an hour away from where I lived when I was in Washington 34 years ago.

The last time I was at an event the announcer actually said something about Budweiser not really wanting to win the current heat they were in because they would lose fuel at the next event or something like that, it was odd for sure, but you could see Budweiser deliberately slowing down hoping to get passed, but never did. I guess it would have been too obvious if he just shut off his engine. I don't know WTF was going on, but it all sounds like some weird F'n politics which really ruined any idea of it being actual racing.

Since these turbine engines are the problem, how about go back to piston engines? Make a limit on liter size and buy crate engines? I don’t think the crowd would complain if turbine or piston if this sport could regain its popularity with a bigger field. Get the cost down and get sponsors. Marketing will bring competition and the fans back to levels of at least the 1990’s.

The challenge is keeping the boat in the lane on that bottom lane, which means slowing down on entry and not carrying the same amount of speed through middle and exit. Meanwhile, the outside lane has the longer distance but can carry more speed since their corner isn’t as tight.
