Thanks Tom been waiting for some local drives …. I am encouraged by your observations so far……. The warranty/ service cost issues have been somewhat concerning but hopefully there might be some simplification / improvement because I would like to complete my purchase . I must admit I felt like a Panadol after watch you drive in wet conditions .. heavy traffic and the classic Sydney lane changes !!!!! Good test for the car ! Cheers

--- the very best review of the Aussie version of an Atto 3 so far! And I have seen circa ten of them. Reviews. Not seeing the vehicle personally -- at least not in reality. Let alone test-driving it? Thank You, Tom. And tough driving conditions to the boot! Can't wait to lay my hands on one. If only EV Direct came to tango? Wishful thinking I presume? Nonetheless,--- well done Tom! And Thanks once again. Greetings. Adam. Bye.

This seems to be a lot of car for the money. Well thought out in terms of the features they give you for the money. For entry level electric, auto opening boot, good number of physical buttons, sd card for recording, Speedo in front of the driver(yes I’m looking at you tesla), sunroof, rear windscreen wiper, fantastic camera views, and rotating centre display make this good value even compared to petrol cars. I hope it does well for them

Fantastic, very thorough review thanks Tom, and great views front and side to really get a feel for the driving experience of the Atto 3. Very much hope BYD's Australian distributor can sort out the various warranty issues so that we start to see these popping up everywhere on Sydney roads - and increase the percentage of fresh air in the city!

Nice vid despite the anxiety provoking Sydney wet weather traffic. 😅 I like the look of the BYD seats. Tesla seats are basically 70s vinyl sweat attractors with no perforation - It really put me off during Model Y test drive, that and the total lack of drivers screen or heads up display and no physical buttons for basics.

Good real life review. Is the 4 port power board the only option for V2L? If camping would be better to have a single power cord that you can put a cover over the join but a power board would need a full box to keep the water out. Do any EVs on the market have a seperate DC socket for solar panels so you could top up the power with a couple fold out panels? Or at least having a seperate 240v and 12v socket in the boot would be handy to draw power while charging via an external mobile battery pack and solar panels.

BYD uses a resistor of a special value in the type 2 plug to trigger V2L mode. Normally the value of the resistor determines the current rating of the attached cable. Once you find that out, you can get any kind of set up(as long as it doesn’t go over the inverter’s limit. Or a different limit set by BYD). (Ask a sparky), get a type 2 plug, get the correct cable, resistor, plug socket. There is no chip involved

Great initial review Tom. The car seems really impressive in person and that’s as a Tesla owner. The problem is the Australian warranty and servicing is not ok. Servicing costs are more than my 2021 diesel Ford SUV over 7 years. And the 6 year warranty has so many caveats it’s not even funny. Eg only 3 years in the screen and wheel bearings. And loads more caveats. Whereas NZ gets a proper 6 year bumper to bumper warranty.

Great video. Thanks for all the detail. You had tough conditions to deal with. I am feeling bitter sweet watching this however. I ordered two Atto 3’s in the first 5 minutes of them being available and I have not heard a peep about there being test drive cars available nor when my cars will be ready for pickup. Then I see that you get one to play with for a whole weekend! Seems like they give preference to the Media and KZbinrs over customers who payed a deposit. Takes the thrill out of the whole experience when there is little to no communication from the company but a heap from a third party. Nice car though. I look forward to seeing the rest of the test.

34:46 This is what bothers me about the touch screen prevalence in EVs. It took you 3 buttons to find the demister on a screen. My demister is a physical button in physical location on the steering wheel that I can hit within one second. I'd say demister and windscreen wipers are the most important thing to access while driving and need to be designed with that priority in mind.

@mondotv4216
@mondotv4216 2 жыл бұрын
I really think that comes down to familiarity. It was no easier to set demister and fan speed on my Mitsubishi or Hyundai. If anything the controls were lower down and more difficult than they are on my model 3. I had to take my eyes further from the road. Plus I can always just press a button and tell the car to turn the demister on or set a different temperature. Heck the Hyundai didn’t even have a front window demister setting. You had to change the mode to blow air on the windscreen which involved cycling through modes, setting fan speed and temperature and preferably turning on the air con because that cleared it faster.

Definitely not the design for me, I don't love Tesla's one screen only approach but there are nifty aftermarket additions (like an on top of wheel mini digital dash) that will fix that. BYD's design is just a little too.. funky for me. Great to have more options out there though and your production is second to none. In Singapore, Tesla is so much expensive than BYD. So, for the benefit of consumer, we have to support BYD. Tesla model Y price is $96k (Latest COE) + $142k (car) = $238k BYD ATTO3 price is $173k (car + COE) Difference is $65k Singapore dollars!!!

It's good, but a small $50K ICE SUV is still ahead on features. One-pedal driving is missing, as is HUD and auto-wipers. Interior design is weird. Would I buy one if I could only have one car? No. As a second car for around town? Maybe. Depends on test drive.

From 15:35 - the camera view of the dashboard layout while driving looks really balanced and clean, although seems to have polarised a lot of comments. If you want "bland" then there's a lot of choice out there, but if you want something distinctive then the Atto 3 delivers in spades. As I have my blue one being delivered soon it was good to see exactly what it looked like in the real world, in 3D, in Sydney traffic, and even in the rain.

Morning Tom, I watched a video yesterday from a channel called Tesla Economist, it was called (BYD test drive how different from a Tesla) This guys opinion is the car is unsafe in road holding and handling, and shouldn't be on sale. I have ordered a BYD, can I please ask for your honest opinion? Thanks ☺️
