I’m 45 and was a fancier as a kid & always knew I would have pigeons when I retire. Then circumstances opened up about 3 years ago where I could get pigeons again. They get in your blood. Gary has been doing it a very long time and had to learn a lot the hard way.

Great video. Would like to hear more about specific lines of birds.

He originally started with Huysken Van Riel he got from Leon Whitney. That's his base line that he's added outside blood to since the 60s. He's added some Janssen, some Stichelbaut to the line. He's more interested in the long distance racing beyond 400 miles so he doesn't care too much for the short distance lines. He doesn't keep any pure lines of birds, just good birds added to that original HVR stuff.

Wow, 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar per gallon is strong, I'm surprised they drink it enough to not get dehydrated or go down for water elsewhere.

He won every young bird race but 1 this year. Has had pigeons longer than I have been alive. I don’t personally put that much, but to each his own.
