The OK Hull was designed and manufactured in Iceland not Finland, FYI. It's a fascinating story - it came into being because of the remarkable mind of an Icelandic entrepreneur who made a fortune out of medical prosthetics which he designed for himself following an accident.

Weird question, how would this go as a dedicated offshore fishing rig? Specifically the inflatable sides, would they puncture from bills or hooks? Looks like it’d be a lot faster and more fun to run to the shelf than my Grady!
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Hmm i honestly don't know as I'm not experienced with offshore fishing. I suspect as a fishing platform the Grady is likely more fit for purpose to be fair. If you are looking for a more ridiculous platform that's more fishing focused I'd check out Freeman Boats from the USA. They are crazy power cats. I'm hoping to bring a very special one to the channel one day.

A great mission for this boat. I would go for the open version for that mission as i'd like better communication between chase boat and yacht that the open style would offer. Also extra deck space incase you needed to throw a mainsail or jib into into the chase boat.

Great but can it go upwind? Because I did not see something like that... Sidewind in big waves and speedy turns is something most boats can do.

@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't look like it's designed for hauling if thats what you're asking? However with a full load of people and their equipment (and ammunition) my assesment is it would be amazing. Just remember with self righting vessels you need to consider the loading as you don't want to upset the center of gravity. Ideally you'd like her to come back up the right way if you happen to roll her in a seaway.

How would you rate this hull compared to air rider hull???
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
I have not driven an Air Rider but from looking at the design i'd say the Rafnar has a lot more turning ability and will be more nimble. Cat's and Tri's will generally have more resistance in a turn but they can also be very efficient in a straight line so depends on the boats mission as to what hull will work best.

The Axopar 45 does 45 Knots with triple Merc 300 Verados and offers much more in terms of features and accommodations.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely it does. But i wouldn't be comparing those two boats as they are different size and mission to be fair. Axopar is more family focused where the Rafnar is either a Military, Commercial or very serious private owner vessel that would typically complement a fleet of vessels and be suitable for a few specific tasks the owners requires it for.

are the sides inflatable or foam filled? what's the actual point of them? do they provide an "unsinkable" benefit like the foam-filled hull of a Boston Whaler? Otherwise, it looks like shit.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Inflatable and they are designed to provide protection when coming alongside another vessel in rough conditions when fenders are not practical. Yes they would also provide a safety factor like a Boston in a worst case scenario. Re the looks i guess thats personal choice. After experiencing the capability of the hull form i personally liked the looks even more, but i understand it's personal choice so you can't please everyone.

@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be great as a rescue boat! The Greek Military already has these in service with ballistic protection and machine guns on the bow. I would definitely prefer to be on the Rafnar if some angry bloke was shooting at me as she can turn on a dime so making a fast exit is no problem but yes as a rescue vessel in all sorts of weather she'd be ideal as well.

I suppose this is what the relatively poor man buys instead of a Safehaven Marine Thunderchild 2, however the poverty stricken masses just have to watch youtube channels on boats they can never afford. At least I have a boat, hardly a superyacht though, a Merry Fisher 795, that I got for £18000 with it's broken Suzuki 350 Outboard, that I managed repair. It goes though and then some.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
Haha i love this! This channel is all about first world problems and your Merry Fisher is better than my Cooper Sloop 745 so sounds like your winning to me.
@Insolation12 жыл бұрын
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Think yourself lucky, in Scotland the weather is rarely good enough to enjoy a nice easy day on boat like a Cooper Sloop. I got this Merry Fisher at such a cheap price because it lay on Loch Lomond shores for a few years doing nothing; someone stole the original engine and the last owner bought a second hand Suzuki engine only yo find it was broken, this sickened him and the boat just sat loch side doing nothing. I retired bought it, moved it to the sea with intentions of having family excursions, only to find that my family couldn't find time for these excursions and when they did have time the weather was usually a lot choppier than in your video. Its going back to Loch Lomond in the hope we will use more frequently. As the old joke goes, the two best days in a boat owner's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it. Hmm, Maybe I should have know better as in my youth I worked long lines for five years in the Clyde estuary and the Irish sea, it was great going out but better when you returned home to the harbour pubs. Anyway safe boating.
