I have one of those... A caad9 made in America. Welds are beautiful, no doubt, but these american cannondales arent as good as people want them to be. First of all mine has a slight headtube issue, the holes aren't exactly aligned and getting a proper, sprint-ready headset preload is tricky. It can be done but it takes a long while. Another thing I noticed about American cannondales, and this is visible in any picture, is the top tube / head tube weld will vary in position. Sometimes it's welded higher, sometimes lower. Even on same models. They aren't top quality bikes, they were still made for cheap and tolerances weren't the best. The sad reality. The bike itself is great, it's a little rocket and I can't fault the tubing or the design for that matter.

You notice the alleged "aero effect" at high speeds where it seems to overcome air resistance more easily than a traditional road bike. The bike takes power transfer well. I am coming from rim brake bikes w/clinchers ('13 SL4 Tarmac and TCR Adv 2) though on deepish Winspace Hypers with GP5000s. Given that, the bike is extremely comfortable, I could not tell it was aluminum, it feels as compliant as a carbon bike. It is heavier than an SL7 no doubt (aluminum w/disc brakes). Lot of hate in the comments here. I do think the price is a bit shocking especially compared to the last Allez Sprint which I own. But if the last 4 years I've owned the sprint is anything to go by, this bike should be excellent. The Allez sprint is by far the stiffest and most nimble feeling bike I've ever rode. As far as I know, there are no other comparable aluminum bikes with such focus on aerodynamic tube shapings. I have no desire to buy this bike considering my current Allez Sprint with rim brakes is perfect for me, but if someone was out looking for an SL7 without paying for an SL7, this is as good as it gets. Also considering this bike is lighter than the last Allez Sprint, there is no reason why this bike couldn't be right up in the peloton with the SL7s and the Pinarellos. Is it a bargain? not if you want to ride casually. Trek Emonda ALR is probably a better option and more beautiful too. I already have a gravel bike...Niner rlt9 steel. However, I was looking to replace it with the Specialized Crux DSW custom build as an all around bike. But now I'm thinking of building up an Allez Sprint lol. Also looking into a Blackheart frameset, Fairlight Strael/Secan and even a Mason Bokeh.

My gosh, I had that Specialized Allez carbon hybrid purchased at South Bay Bicycles in San Diego circa 1990. I kept it for years and sadly it was stolen in Chicago after I lent it to my friend. If I had it today, I'd mount it on my wall :)

I just ordered a frame set in oil slick Charmeleon for the hell of it. Very excited to do a 1x AXS aero build!!!

40 sec faster over 40 km they're not giving you what speed that is at it just sounds like the only aero gains was from the hidden cables is the only gain over the old generation Allez Sprint, so unless the riding dynamic changed greatly I just keep with the older generation which I think looks beefier. I personally have the last generation Allez Sprint custom painted with rim brakes debating if I should upgrade to a disc brake to this new generation or just by the old generation as much cheaper

The Run/Satin Logos colour looks nice (bright purple), deck it out with wireless 12 speed ultegra, some 50mm hunt carbon wheels (T-Ni purple rainbow spokes) Prime Primavera Aero cockpit then Maybe a fabric scoop ti railed saddle and a set of tan wall tubeless tyres (mine would be pirelli p zeros race 28c classic), and I think you would have a very nice bike!

I find it interesting that the used bike sites are always full of Allez Sprint bikes and framesets, yet people always rave about the bike's performance. If it's so good, why are they always up for sale?

Because people that get Allez sprints are also probably the people that would upgrade more often

Some ex-Allez Sprint owners don't appreciate it for what it truly is. I have one customer who bought one from me, but switched to an Addict RC and now an S-Works Tarmac SL7 because she wants a lighter bike to climb on. The same goes for CAAD12s. But, I like these two aluminium bikes. I have no idea if I'll ever get the second-gen Allez Sprint though, but I'm pretty intrigued by the VYNL Road (available in rim and disc).

Amongst my 6 bikes I have a 2002 aluminum GT ZR3.0 one of the first aluminum bikes that came with a carbon fork (I had an earlier one with an alloy fork which WAS harsh) however with the addition of a carbon fork and seat post (minimal as it is) the bike is not harsh as aluminum bikes are touted to be. I had the rear brake bridge raised a few years back increasing the clearance for 28mm tires and the front has room for 30mm and this 20 year aluminum bike is by no means harsh, larger tires adding even more comfort. There is quite a difference between an older aluminum MTB I have and a newer carbon MTB but they encounter much harder terrain than the road buzz that road bikes are subjected too.

I love aluminium. But the joints look like the ones we had in the 90s on the cheap generic frames. That's gross. It really looks like the end of Steel as a "normal" frame material ended up with less skilled people when it comes to weld tubes perfectly with clean joints for bikes frames
@monochromebluess2 жыл бұрын
Good review of the bike. I do think the welds are less than appealing but it’s not a deal breaker. More interested in that remark about it being 41 secs faster. When I checked the facts that it was 41 secs faster over a distance of 40 kilometres well simple maths say that’s just 1 second per 1 kilometre. Hardly super fast and even that could be easily explained away with random factors and averaging etc. And why do Specialized want to be Bianchi with that blue paint scheme on the launch. Would be interesting to see a bike build done though.
@Digi202 жыл бұрын
Nothing against AL - i started road biking 5 years ago with the first rose pro sl disc with shimano 105 and over the years upgraded everything but the frame step by step. actually the frame and the fork are the only original parts, its now a bling bling Di2 exotic parts looker, around 1,5kg lighter, more comfortable and i truly love it. i have ridden several different bikes over the years but i have no ambitions in changing my frame to a new carbon one because the geometry just fits like a glove (i was lucky nailing it with the first buy) and i like the carelessness i can have with aluminium. i dont mind a battle scar here and there oon it - but the price of the specialized allez is just ridiculous. yes, all those hydroformed and bespoke frameparts surely are more expensive to manufacture and weld together than your standard OEM china frameset - but come on.
@db6132 жыл бұрын
If only they could do smart weld from the inside of the frame which would still increase the structure, allow for a clean smooth outer surface guess when we get more robotic in our surgeries may lead to more robotic welding in bikes...

@@forresttroxellIt's likely I'm not, I've worked with a first-gen Allez Sprint and Tarmac SL7 before and assuming the second-gen Allez Sprint's compression ring is the same as the Tarmac SL7's (which I think it is, need to double-check their manuals), it definitely won't be possible since it's larger than the first-gen Allez Sprint's.
