2022 Subaru WRX Ts Sedan VS WRX Ts Wagon

When it comes down to it, the WRX wagon, sold as Levorg in some markets, is a softer, friendlier, more spacious version of the sedan. It has more space, so carries more of your stuff.

They share identical running gear and engine, with a 205kw/350Nm flat-4 (boxer) turbo, driving all 4 wheels. The Ts models have the much-maligned CVT automatic transmission, but it is this gearless automatic which allows the WRX to have the full suite of Eyesight safety and driver aids.
We took both head-to-head, but did one come out on top?
The short answer is, it depends on the buyer. Yeah, I know, what a fudgy mess of an answer.
Performance is the same for both. Both have fancy adjustable suspension, and the same infotainment system.
The difference comes at the weekend when you start the show-off activities. Those heading to a track, both of you, will want the WRX sedan. God lord, you spend all this dough on a car then stick it on a track where it is not insured. What are you thinking?
For everyone else, the wagon is a better all-rounder. It has a slightly more compliant ride, and more space within its sexy wagon back. Can you tell I’m a wagon lover?
Wagons have had a bum-rap, gaining a rather unattractive “mum’s taxi” moniker. What a load of old dingoes kidneys! The WRX wagon is sexy, and has a huge amount of flexible cargo space. Its big-ol hatch doesn’t swing up quite as far as I’d like. After a whack on the noggin, I loaded a bit of gear into the rear, which also holds a spare tyre. HOORAH

The nicest Subaru’s I’ve seen in a long time, both look decently made, the sedan more attractive in my view, but less functional than the wagon. I don’t like CVT’s however, the sedan seems more fun on the road and handling looks great. I do think I’d ride in comfort mode ALL of the time. If I wanted another ICE car I’d consider, pensively around the CVT and would have to drive it to be convinced. Great review/s of both cars gentlemen. I like them. Thank you both.

the CVT works really well and i'm sure most people don't notice it isn't a torque converter auto

Just curious why most videos I see they don’t get 0~100 in it’s said 6.1 seconds. More like 6.9 seconds. Ps great videos guys.

I bought an auto WRX just before Christmas 2022. I found one in a used Toyota yard with only 531 kms on the odometer. I’ve really grown to love this car. It’s soft & sedate if you want it to be or quick & agile at the touch of a button. I wanted a Supra but found the WRX & saved $50K. I’m looking to ad some body kit pieces & coilovers to improve the stance but no engine mods. The only bad thing I think is it has equal length headers whereas if it had unequal length headers a simple CAT back exhaust modification would improve the exhaust note & give that boxer engine rumble the WRX is famous for.

A wonderful manufacturer of cars which, over the decades, were often quite superior to others in their respective classes. To me, Subaru have lost there way a bit over the past 15 years. I wish they’d re - do a Brumby! They are SO popular on the second hand market (still) and a small, economical turbo diesel Ute would sell like hot cakes in Australia

believe it or not, buyers have all but turned their backs on diesel in all but the largest of SUVs and utes. most car makers have dropped them. i'm in a BRZ this week and it has been joyous. it owuld be my pick

Good review as ever but I wish Subaru would abandon the CVT transmission. They may now be a different beast to the early configurations but I have read and watched too many comments, warning of their limitations enough to stop me ever buying a car with one, especially a performance vehicle.

Why do they persist with the CVT in mainstream cars ok but performance should have used a DCT

I've asked that very question. Subaru's engineering bloke is very cluey. he said, "all i can tell you is how they work, not why we use them. That's a question for the project leads".

It's a shame just how expensive Subaru cars are. Seems like the boxer engine, AWD system make them much more expensive than competitors. Apples to oranges but you can get a bloody top spec Rav4 Edge hybrid for almost $2,000 less than the Ts sedan, and a whopping $6,000 less than the wagon. Makes it hard to justify methinks with this price nipping at the heels of entry level luxury brands

that's true of course, but they're in a completely different class. no one could argue the Rav is a performance car. A WRX buyer isn't a RAv4 buyer and vice versa. a Golf R maybe, in which case the WRX looks like a bargain
