FOR CALIFORNIA RIDERS: in LA/OC if you get the Kaniwaba power pedal kit and keep it under 29mph, wearing a dot approved helmet… it is now legally a class 3 e-bike and can have the benefits of both on/off road, bike paths, etc. everyone’s location carries different weight. So know your DMV states laws for ebikes inside/out. As far as registration goes… I understand the fear of “the more we put our bikes on government paper, the more the government will push towards making it a standard.” Let’s just keep it civil and love one another on/off road.❤️ however I definitely am IN FAVOR of keeping things in the gray area here in California. To each his own though. All good👌

Everyone gets to drive 85 to 90 mph interstate with no tickets and I've had 5 percent window tint on every vehicle I've owned for the last 20 years they don't care or bother you about it. Also loud modified cars allowed. I can register my vehicle with no inspection. The vehicle doesn't even have to be there you just need the Vin number. I also have an electric scooter and an electric minibike and no one cares. All of this I'm sure wouldn't work in California because they like to over control people there.

It never ceases to amaze me, the specially designated areas that some states have, it's mind blowing actually, we have over 10,000 miles of mostly wooded trails, that just crisscross the state. I sort of feel for people who only have a few miles to ride on. That trail does look fun though. I have met some folks on Quiet Kats a time or two on the trails, I have yet to meet a Sur Ron.

Compare it to the KTM Free Ride that costs $11,099 (7k more than the Sur Ron X!), that bike only does 50 mph, just 3 mph faster than the Sur Ron X, but weighs 204 lbs and only gets 20 mile range whole the Sur Ron only weighs 100 lbs and gets a 50 mile range! When you look at the comparisons, $4200 is CHEAP.

If its gonna be an electric dirtbike the light bee/x is hard to beat. Also there is a ton of quality aftermarket parts, you can almost double the range, you can double the power output. I was looking at something thats not a car for commuting a total of 45 miles each day, got a ron, sold the stock battery as new for 1.5k dollars and got a 60V65ah battery for 2.4k so now it has 190% the capacity, almost 4kwh now and it carries me a total of 70 miles while trying to keep it at 1500 watts max

It is funny how people think about safety gear. 45mph street and rough paths with the shirt, no gloves, jeans, simple kicks (some people no helmet and almost never a sturdy motorcycle helmet, but some light bicycle joke cap). Our bike gear is optimized for 30 to 45mph accidents...which is right in the zone of this Motorized-Bicycle...aka Motor-cycle. Remember that broken collarbone was at 8mph and you fell on a log. That air vest and a good MX 3/4 helmet with MX gloves would be logical.

I'd still be careful with riding that on roads with a double yellow line though, that is actually considered a "Dirt Bike" and not really a semi street legal "e-bike" as it doesn't actually have pedals nor rated for 750 watts, which I believe the stage 2 versions have provisions where the motor can't go over 20mph, and provide no more assistance to your pedaling after 20mph. Sun Ron does have a pedal kit for it, so might be something to invest in, especially in city limits or townships. Cop's aren't stupid, and with how popular the Sun Ron is with it's online presence, I'd be pretty careful riding on county roads with yellow lines, at least until you get the pedal kit for it, or keep it until 20mph (or haul ass on the grass near the road :D). Same goes for those mountain bike trails.. rangers aren't too keen on dirt bikes using the mountain bike trails. Though if throughout the trail there isn't any signs stating you cannot use a dirt bike or a motorized bike to traverse through the trails, if you're ever caught by a ranger or cop cause some butthurt mb'r doesn't like you're ripping and shredding through the trail faster than they are, if they write you a ticket, you can fight it in court if there aren't any signs present in the beginning, throughout the trails, and in the end of some that state no motorized vehicles past this point. Keeping under the speed limits and running roadside berm and bike paths along the sides of the road will keep the cops from bothering you too much, if at all. Also as my friends suggested too me as I've thought about purchasing a Sur Ron X, changing the tires to some of those Shinko 241 trial tires which are better for on and off road, give you some extra rubber on tighter road turns without the bike washing out cause sidewalls don't have any grip. Did that once on my heavier MB 200 minibike with those fat off road knobby tires.. road doesn't feel good at all, even with protective gear on, and my minibike didn't like skidding across the road and flipping in the ditch either. Do believe the Trail tires still have good tread for off road. So you don't loose out on the shredding on dirt. Supposedly, there is a way to unlock the full speed on that stock sur ron.. I'd also look that up, a lot of people had done that with the green wire snip & tape up.. Not sure what exactly does that wire do as I don't own a Sur Ron myself, but once my friends had done that the are much quicker than my minibike in most cases. Pretty sure that would void the warranty, but I'm pretty sure that upgrading to the 72 volt system would also void the warranty, SO when that time comes, I'm sure you'll figure it out, or go watch a tutorial vid on how you do it right. I'd say depending on how you want to ride it, or if you plan on selling it, I wouldn't do much to it. But my friends said, you'd be crazy to sell it with how the gas prices are now.

About 3 hours or so. You can get about 50 miles or less on a charge depending on the slope and how fast you're going. It lasts long enough to enjoy it, at least for me.

Bicyclists aren’t legally supposed to ride on sidewalks….I do from time to time but just so people are aware, sidewalks technically are illegal. It’s not really enforced but if there’s an accident on one you could be held liable.

You are correct but who wants to get hit by a car riding a bicycle on the street? You are much safer on the sidewalks, just be courteous to pedestrians and you will not have a problem.

It is expensive to upgrade the battery and controller to get 80 mph. I might do it. Idk. I doubt I would I got 80 mph very often because you can't take it on the highway and if you get caught on the local streets doing 80 mph you will get a ticket.

i think the prob with your front wheel going out of alignment is you pinch bolts are not tightened

Different states allow different usage of Class 2 vs Class 3 ebikes.... Get the pedal kit, and keep it in Eco mode and you "should" be able to ride that thing EVERYWHERE! Even Rail Trails, State Parks & Forests, legal on the street too as long as you're not trying to ride 55mph highways. At least that's what the local sheriff in Tilton NH said.

It seems expensive but when you compare it to other electric dirt bikes like the KTM Free Ride ($11k) then the Sur Ron seems pretty cheap. I love all of the e-bikes though. I charge both of my e-bikes for free using solar.
