Yes I am one of the guys that finds this to play a huge roll in the overall vehicle construction. The engineering is incredibly important and I find it interesting. That frame flez can make up for a lack of travel in the same packaging compared to a fully rigid one, I’d rather have flex than totally stiff and worrying about when it does start to give aka deform
@MrCherrygrovedude3 жыл бұрын
You have to have frame flex in any design. Even boxed frames have to flex.
@alexmills13293 жыл бұрын
@@MrCherrygrovedude going by manufacturers claims boxed frames are an order of magnitude stiffer than open C frames, at the low end to around 20x more stiff. Will they have some flex yes, but is it an appreciable amount, well not really, you’re talking at most 10% of the amount of flex, that’s great for dialing in suspension and reducing variables in spring rates and motion but not everything. That kind of frame will deform more easily due to how rigid it is when taking on shock loading or other high stress events
@MrCherrygrovedude3 жыл бұрын
@@alexmills1329 the Toyota engineer said by going coil spring rear suspension, they could also go boxed frame because the ride quality won't suffer as much. For example, Ford's boxed frame/leaf spring combo rides a lot rougher than Ram's boxed frame/coil spring combo. If the frame didn't flex, it would crack and break. Frame flex is a major part of ride quality and overall handling.

Some people think they have/will have longevity issues, but my last truck went 200k without major issues, traded it in on this one and i've got 120 on this one and it has only received general maintenance. @@BPJac well perception is belief before facts. The comment was based on fact. Fact is: Toyota had a major problem which they mostly corrected. I’m just curious since they did such an awesome job with a robust chassis,axle, differential, etc. why is it? They have the least payload capability than Ford or dodge?
@channelnamehere4065 Жыл бұрын
Axle rating. And cost. The Tundra's beefy components are heavier than competition with same or similar axle ratings. The driveshaft alone is probably 50% bigger than competition and the even things like control arms are massive on the Tundra compared to say, a Silverado. Bigger, heavier components on a cost-savings platform like the TNGA-F is good for cost savings, not good for actual usage. Toyota can easily make everything "good enough" like competition to up their numbers game, but that wouldn't be a Toyota thing to do. They instead, overbuilds stuff to last a long time, but because they're gimped by sharing platform with the Land Cruiser for truck duties, that's what we get. They could just easily get a chassis from Hino but I'm not sure if Hino even has anything less than a class 5 available. The bean counters are pushing this segment more than anybody that uses a truck as a truck would really like...

Exactly. No 3/4 ton or 1 ton and no diesel. Just a double turbo six banger. Then it looks kind of like an XL version of a fucking Corolla. I like my 2019 Tundra with an 8 foot bed but would rather have a diesel like Dodge did with Cummins. Mayne a Kitty Cat in a Tundra would be nice but instead we get a V6. This Tundra I own will be the last fucking Toyota I will ever own. I have some serious doubts about Toyota's numbers on the highly praised V 6 with twin turbo. Toyota had a chance to capture the market but they ended up fucking the pooch. Wow a soccer mom can go 2 miles at 120 mph from store to store. I guess that is the market in Japan. In this country we need a vehicle capable of hauling weight for long distance. The 2022 Tundra really ain't that truck. Go fast really don't impress me much and if I want to go fast on a track then I will build my own. This shit going fast in a quarter mile with speed limits posted or long stretches with speed limits posted is not a selling point other than for kids. The Buick Grand National was a turbo V6 too. So now Toyota comes out with a twin turbo V 6? 350s, 305s and in rare instances 454s rule dirt tracks and strips. Where are the V6s? They used to be in the NASCAR Busch Cup series. But not the Winston Cup series but NASCAR now seems to be who can wear the prettiest pink dress. Yeah fuck Richrd Petty. Yeah. NASCAR died when Dale did. Now the "sport" is filled with nothing more than a bunch of whiney bitches that think they are athletes and special. So FUCK toyota and FUCK nascar. Both are corporate idiots that don't see the market they want to target. But when you hire idiots then you get what you got. There are several businesses that is thriving right now all be it less than legal. Just sayin'. But honestly "Toy"ota screwed the pooch on this one. I forcast a bunch of fat women and men that can park close to the door of whoever the park so they don't have to walk more than 500 feet. What is the longest bed configuration the got now on their half ton POS? 6 feet at the most?

I’ve found that Toyota tends to overbuild their vehicles. That’s probably why the vehicles last so long. What that cutaway frame shows those massive intercoolers for the turbos. The turbos should last the life of the engine. Regular service is essential. On one you tube channel the presenter criticized Toyota for eliminating the V8 because the V6 would have to rev higher and wear out sooner. This is not true! The new truck makes peak torque at 2500 rpm where as the V8 has to go to 4000 rpm to make peak torque. TFL truck has tested the f150 V8 and the eco boost on the Ike gauntlet. The eco boost had lower rpm across the board and seemed more effortless in towing the very heavy loads they do in these trucks. I would expect the Tundra to compare similarly to the outgoing V8. Toyota overbuilds internal engine components in much the same way as the rest of the truck. I believe the major internal components are forged in much the same way as a race engine would be. I see no reason this truck shouldn’t last as long as its predecessor. It will most likely be my next truck. I like that Toyota’s mindset as a company is reliability and longevity!

So what I'm hearing is that Toyota finally caught up to what the other American manufacturers have been doing for many years. The old Tundra frame was absolute garbage and that flex being for ride quality is the biggest lie toyota could come up with. Many reviewers even who have driven the new tundra still even say the Ram 1500 has a better ride quality. This Tundra should have come out about 7 or 8 years ago and then it would be truly competitive. The only thing about this truck that is mildly competitive with today's trucks is the engine and transmission. Everything else is just not good enough, especially since they touted this truck as a world beater. Also, that axle might be slightly larger than some manufacturers, but the differential can't even handle the full torque of the engine in 1st gear. They limit rpms in 1st gear. And those rear suspension components aren't any larger than other manufacturers.
