2022 White Bass Run - Rowlett Creek | STOPPED by the GAME WARDEN!

In this video I go creek scouting on Feb 18, 2022 for white bass. I caught white bass on curly tails, spoons, and everything else. I called it a day with 20 white bass in my bucket but I really moved around to locate them and when I finally found them I caught them with moderate success. The run hasn’t started yet. The creeks are still too low. Not enough rain to push the fish up the creeks yet but the whites are in the creeks if you look hard enough. White bass spawn starts in February in Texas and can last through April. White bass sit on bottom until they are ready to feed or spawn. Limit = 25 fish and are an absolute blast to fish for. With rain in our forecast the next coming week, I can imagine the run will be in full swing at the end of February/early March.

I spent most of my childhood fishing Rowlett creek! The spring white bass (or sandbass as I used to call them) was something I looked forward to every year.

Thanks man, took some work but it paid off in the end. I tried to scout them today at Joe Pool Lake and it’s still too early. Water was cold and the creek was empty.

I think what you are referring to is an incident that happened after a huge rain at the Rowlett Creek Waste Water Plant in 2019 where a huge piece of concrete got swept into an intake pipe after a heavy rain and caused waste water to back up into the creek. I don’t think that’s anything to worry about because that happened three years ago because of a heavy rain. Think it’s safe to say the creek has been flushed since then no pun intended and we haven’t had a good rain all year so catch ‘em and throw em back man, more fish for me lol

I been fishing there since I was 10 back in the 90s. Trying to find new place peaceful and quiet 😂 not like rowlett creek all pack every day.

Its a popular spot! So are many other places like Denison Dam or Beavers Bend state park but that doesn’t mean you can’t go catch trout or striper there. If you don’t like seeing people you can also go on off times like early on during the day or on weekdays. I also don’t like to fish elbow to elbow either but I was the only person fishing at the creek (when I got there). I walked a mile or two and every spot I hit was empty. It’s not the best spot I agree, I actually drove out to Cedar Hill and fished the creeks at Joe Pool Saturday to get away from the hustle and bustle but they were completely empty. Almost wish I had gone to Rowlett Creek instead! It’s a good spot just crowded sometimes.

Definitely! Bass always run up the creeks early on in the year and after it rains so pay attention to the weather and you should be able to find you some!

Will a Jighead with a white curly tail grub work for the white bass?

The answer is YES! That is a great set up for white bass. That setup is actually the go-to-way many many fisherman that catch white bass. I use 1/4 oz jig heads in deep water and 1/8 oz jig heads in shallower water. One thing is for sure, you CAN’T go wrong with a little curly tail!

Are the white bass fully spawning since it is March I'm trying to decide if I'm going to a new creek or if I'm going to the Brazos where I get fish at

Not fully spawning yet. I would fish else where because you’ll be neck and neck with other fisherman fishing a creek that is low with bass that have not started spawning yet. We are coming out of two freezes and we haven’t had a good rain in a while. The fish will flood the creek when the conditions align so stay tuned I will create another video when the action gets a little better. I would hit the Brazos over the creek right now if I were you.

Fun little spot! I was hoping the run would be on a little earlier but we also haven’t had a decent rain all year. We get a really good rain, I’m talking 3”-4”, it will be nice action. Still pretty hard locating them. Lots of people commenting on this vid who have recently been 🦨 ed here. Went to Joe Pool lake today and scouted out their creeks and got skunked. Water is still too cold and creek was empty.

Man all we need is some warm weather to roll in (this week is heating up) but also need rain. Without rain they aren’t going to run up the creeks. Just a waiting game! I’m sure I’ll run into you on the banks and until then tight lines!

I parked at a bridge and walked about 3/10 mile along the bank and got a ticket from the Texas game warden for what he listed as “Fishing from Private w/o Consent” and yes this was a creek over 30ft wide and Navigatel by small boat etc, so why did I get a citation w/o a landowner complaintant? Shit on I think

Yeah, fishing is tough all over today. Today I went to Joe Pool Lake and fished for white bass and didn’t catch anything. I definitely feel your pain!
