2023 Alaskan Moose hunt in the Brooks range on Gwich'in ancestral lands hunted by our people for as far back as can be remembered. Enigmatic Gwich'in "Gary Jr" and Ricky from Venetie, Alaska 99781, hunt upriver from Venetie in a 22' Allweld boat with a 75hp Yamaha outboard.
We're shooting a Savage rifle in 30-06, and a Stainless SteelMarlin in 30-30. Wearing carhartts, drizza-bone, redwings, mechanic gloves, Vortex Binoculars, PMS lower and 450 bushmaster upper, Sig Sauer P227 .45 ACP. Oakley GasCan sunglasses. Buck knife,

No antibiotics in that meat. I worked at a feed lot in my youth. Had a full size fridge full of drugs for those Herefords. 700 head. Lost two or three a week to lot rot. Good to see experienced hunters work for it, staying calm. Local knowledge.

For a future video series idea, could you explain the pelt selling/buying process. And maybe take us with you when you go to the fur buyer. And how you treat the fur once you get back home.

Yeah, it’s kinda hard to film the actual selling part, it’s quite private when it comes to smaller fur buyers buying for a market that they create for themselves. I think they would be worried that other trappers would demand prices they see me or others like me that fill specific needs for a decent price. Especially when the market price for some of the furs are so low. I’ve never sold fur to an auction before maybe I can film that and learn along with y’all on here. But if I get the ok from my fur buyers to film I definitely will jump at the opportunity. Thanks for writing and thanks for the input it’s much appreciated

Yeah I don’t try to sugar coat anything and never exaggerate what we’re doing. It is very dangerous and we are far from everything, but this is how we were raised and the life we live. When I was in RI, I did a little Texas BBQ on a chunk of Moose that came out of Maine. Very tasty. Not sure what part of the critter it was but it smoked up well & had a boat load of flavor. Almost always unless it’s in the middle of the winter. We ate ground moose for dinner earlier today, it was awesome! Happy Holidays👋

Audio all over the place was missing and a bunch of the video edits all of a sudden had dark clips in it. It took me a couple hours to go back and add back in the music. I think yesterdays problem was with my wife’s iPad mini. I’ve been editing on it for almost 2 years. Hundreds of gigs of video dropped on edited and deleted has prolly started to slow it down. Gotta use a better setup to edit on some of the bigger videos to come. Will do

Thanks! It was an awesome hunt for sure. The plane went down in 1998 after delivering lumber and building supplies here to Venetie. I actually watched if take off from Venetie with one engine spewing smoke and a short time later flying along the river until it went down. Nobody was injured. But it was definitely one memory that was burned into me. Thanks for watching my Canadian friend, take care
