I found your commentary on fuel economy to be interesting. It's really weird that GM invited a lot of influencers to this event and didn't even address fuel economy, which is going to be one of the top considerations of people like me who are looking for a vehicle they can use to commute. Looking at the added weight in this generation, the performance of the 2.7L in the Silverado (worse EPA than V8), the larger tires and wider body (more drag), I'm not surprised that in town fuel economy is around 15MPG. This might end up having the worst fuel economy in the class.

Sam as always I appreciate your continual neutrality in your reviews, I notice in other channels the reviewer’s often get smitten with the latest greatest. My take away from your first impressions confirms waiting a bit longer for the 24’ Taco and Ranger thus avoid a mistake, i.e. perhaps Chevy drop in price when the Toyota launches.

MPG shown on a press vehicle that many different drivers have had their ass in should not be viewed as normal real-world results. These trucks are driven HARD at press events and they sit idling A LOT. There's no way this truck will average less than the full size Silverado with the 2.7L and those are averaging low 20s.

I like the Trail Boss but dang the prices have gone up. Seems like a great all-around truck.

I just saw Fuel economy run with a Ford F250 with a 7.3 and four-wheel-drive and they were getting 15.8 or 16 miles per gallon and I’m guessing the ram 2500 with a 6.4 L in the new eight speed automatic probably gets 17 or so, of course the engine is smaller and has cylinder deactivation

My 2010 Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5.3 engine gets that mileage, that is not very impressive in a smaller, newer truck with all the technology advances in 12 plus years. GM may need to improve on these numbers. Thanks for doing so much homework for the rest of us, we can go to a dealership with knowledge and not listen to the salesman's pitch.

$30k seems reasonable no for a base WT price? given general inflation over time, $20k in 2006 is the same as $30k today.

I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD truck. Wish I had waited to drive a 2023 Colorado Trail Boss. I was little timid about buying a 4x4 midsize truck powered by that 2.7 liter turbo 4 cylinder engine. Luckily I put down 32,500.00 on my 23 Tacoma truc so I am not upside down if I decide to trade it in on a new Colorado or cms canyon trucks, . So I might go test drive the 23 Colorado Trail Boss and a 23 GMC elevation 4x4 trucks and see which one I might trade my Tacoma in oh one of them. I also really like the chevy Colorado ZR2 to get the 2 differential lockers for going offloading in the mountains of TN, nc ga, ky or va. Luckily I live in upper East Tennessee by tgebtri cities so I am a short 45 to 90 mile drive away from lots of logging trails or forestry trails located nearby where I live in Kingsport TN.

Does anybody else think that for 15 mpg it should be a lot more of a hot rod?

Thank you for including fuel economy in your review. At 16 Mi to the gallon I'll keep my full-size GMC that gets the same mileage. I guess there's no law that states the EPA must include these mileage ratings on the sticker. No wonder they failed to put such a low mpg on the window sticker.
@TestDrivenTV
@TestDrivenTV Жыл бұрын
The window stickers we were provided at press event were not "official" as the trucks were pre-production. MSRP stickers on production vehicles will have EPA information on them.

Why did they cheap out on the main lcd screen? They put a square lcd inside a space that's not square! Looks cheap because it does not fill out the entire bezel the way it does on the Silverado.

If you get the base WT with the optional mid tier engine, does that one have more insulation, or is it the same noise as the base WT with the base engine?
@TestDrivenTV
@TestDrivenTV Жыл бұрын
Turbo+ and HO are identical mechanically, only the software differs. It's only the base engine that is "decontented" mechanically - we'll have a full deep dive up into the details on our playlist shortly.
@toronado455
@toronado455 Жыл бұрын
@@TestDrivenTV Unless they're talking about something that's physically attached to the engine, like a dense foam engine cover, it's confusing marketing info from Chevy because insulation is usually something that's added to the body structure rather than the engine itself. For example a hood blanket, or closed cell foam in the body cavities, or under floor sound absorbing material. Sometimes base models are decontented by omitting some of those forms of insulation. But this particular situation seems different, because it sounds like all trim levels are insulated identically and the only difference is in the engine, which is mysterious.🤔
@TestDrivenTV
@TestDrivenTV Жыл бұрын
We will have more detail in our engine video deep dive, but foam sound deadening components are deleted from the base engine in addition to a number of other changes both externally and internally.

@@TestDrivenTV I watched your TDTV Garage video on the powertrains for this truck, and that helped explain a bit better. I would probably avoid the base engine/transmission on this truck. For some reason I don't get those TDTV Garage videos showing up in my subscribed videos page even though I'm subscribed to both your channels.

See, it's people like you who want luxury on a truck. Instead of just standard, it works function. To cause prices to be so sky-high. For a vehicle that hauls stuff, leaf springs are great. They are the best at adjusting to differing payload weights in a wider range of weights.
