This is a great channel, thanks! Huion user here, I was shocked to learn about the pressure wobble issue. I was sure it was a "me" problem, that is being unable to control the pen properly. I see this on my Giano and Inspiroy 2M with a few different pen models (PW550, PW517, PW110). I used Krita, WinTab and Windows Ink, Basic-5 Size at 103 px size brush and it's really difficult to get a constant size, or smoothly changing line. I don't think this affects me too much with the brushes and workflow I use, but now I'm really tempted to try "the leading brand".

Thanks for the comment! I'm planning a more comprehensive video to show how that pressure wobble appears in different tablets. But so far what I've seen is all tablets have some degree of it - the the amount can vary quite a bit. Many people don't notice it because they may not be doing linework with large brushes where it is much more obvious. With Krita's weighted brush smoothing option there is a setting to smooth pressure which can help tone down the wobble.

Amazing video! It would be really cool to see a series of Review videos dedicated specifically to each of the Pen Displays you have. With testing of tracing, tilt, pressure and this more in-depth content that only your channel does. And assigning gradations to each specific item, for comparison purposes between models.

I need to learn more about how to evaluate a tablet but I do plan on doing something like this on the channel. Here's an example of a comparison I did of some 13" pen displays: docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/product-info/7p-notes-other/7p-notes-huion-gs1331-xppen-cd130fh

@@thesevenpens Yeah, that kind of comparison is amazing. It would be wonderful to see articles like this turned into a series of videos making these comparisons here on your channel. I hope your plans work out. I'd love to see a comparison with the 16" models.

The issue with the gen 2 wacom one pen might actually be related to software as you said. Me and a group of other illustrators looked into and tested both the gen 1 and gen 2 to use with galaxy tab s8 & s9 as a more comfortable alternative pen for portable use. We actually found the gen 2 to have a more comfortable pressure range and lower IAF, as the gen 1 pen needed slightly more pressure to register a stroke on both devices. Needless to say pretty much everyone went with the gen 2 since they were at matching prices, so your test results were actually pretty surprising to me.

Palm rejection on the Samsung Tab S9 FE is poor... (I own both Samsung Tab S9 FE and an iPad w/ Apple Pencil) on the Samsung Tab: writing in Samsung Notes, when my palm rests on the screen, I notice the page panning unintendedly this never happens to me on the iPad in note taking apps.

Top notch videos. Thanks for doing them. I just wanted to ask for a piece of advice. I'm thinking about getting the Wacom pro 22". It is a lot of money, but I ussually buy 1 good device and it should last a lot of time without having the need of buying another. Would you wait for the new huion tablets or would you buy the wacom pro 22" if you had the money? Thanks in advance!
@thesevenpens

Assuming the Cintiq Pro 22 is as good as the Cintiq Pro 27 - I would get the Cintiq Pro 22. The reason is (1) general Wacom reliability and (2) It will still take more time for Huion and others to catch up to the drawing experience that Wacom already provides.
@daCrude

I'll send my wacom pro 22 back cause it's not acceptable to have such a noisy fan after an hour on. It gets even worse after 4h-6h. Like an mid-old Laptop which is rendering. The case is really thick (for the useless handle buttons) and they didn't go for a passive cooling solution... If you think about an Ipad or the new huians this makes even less sense at all. The fans get louder and louder over the years (dust and general wear and tear) and there is no way to open them without damaging the device. Had the same with my cintiq pro 16. Still no driver update for adjusting anything. If this doesn't bother you its imo a superb choise. Had sadly alot of backlight bleed - but who cares what's on the sides. The drawing experience is awesome. I would asume 40% than Huion but I really have high hopes for the new generation which is comming - sadly its not an 22 or new 24....

I'm going to stick with the cintiq pro 16 for a while and see if I can try the new Huion 19 when it's available. If it feels similar to the Wacom, I'll have to wait for an updated 22/24 version of the Huion Kamvas. The Kamvas 22 pro should get an update next since it's a couple years old. Of course, if you need the best now and can't wait, the Cintiq is a possible choice. Also thought about to sell it just 1-2 later to jump to an Huion. But I really hate selling things for much less.

I have one more question about the wacom cintiq pro 22". I know you own this table and would like to ask if you see any drawback moving it everytime after working with it. I mean, I'm a gamedev and do some music production and although I have a pretty large desk I can't have the wacom set up on the table everytime because I need the space when I enter "developer mode" :D. I have thought about using a flex arm but again, having a 2 monitor setup I don't have enough space for it. So, I don't mind moving the wacom to a little table I have beside my main desk and bring it to the main desk everytime I want to use it again. One thing I'm a bit afraid of is the cables connection sockets. I fear they wears out somehow and get loose and in the end broke. Could you comment a bit on this? Would really appreciate it.

Great question. I know some people are concerned about wear on the ports. So there are two ports of interest. The power connection is super rugged so I have no concern there. As for the USB-C port. I've never had any problems but I also do something to may prevent excessive wear. I have a USB-C extension cable connected to my computer. So when I need to move the tablet away I can actually leave the USB-C cable plugged into the tablet. The real reason I have the extension cable was to avoid having to reach to the back of my computer every time I need to test a new tablet.

Hey! Can you please give me some guidance in choosing my first pen display? I'm currently looking at the XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 GEN2 and the used Wacom Cintiq Pro 13, which costs about the same (450€). I like the XP-Pen in every way, it has a lot of features and the overall specs are good. Wacom is a more reliable brand, I don't know, but it would be in used condition and it is really old, so I don't know if it is acceptable in the current time. Also, it's 2K vs. FHD display, which doesn't really matter right now, 1080P is still good, but having 2K up front would be great. Currently I use the Gaomon S620, also used a Huion H610 PRO (and just a little Parblo A610), which are quite cheap models, so I don't really know what to expect from the ones I want to buy.

I would go with the XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 GEN2. I think that extra size is worth it and the new XP-Pen X3 Pro pen has a much improved experience over the older XP-Pen pens. Cintiq Pro will have a better drawing experience, but I think on balance the XP-Pen model offers more value.

It is still worth to get intuous pro small pth-460 in 2024, knowing wacom intuous pro is the standard for pen tablets but i still wondering whether go for it or consider between xencelabs pen tablet small and deco pro gen 2 small. If it were you, which one would you choose? Thanks
@thesevenpens
@thesevenpens 6 ай бұрын
The Intuos Pro PTH-x60 series is still the best set of pen tablets to exist. (Though I would generally recommend the medium PTH-660 over the smaller PTH-460 for most people). Having said that I've used the Deco Pro Gen 2 (XLW) and have been pretty happy with it. But definitely the Intuos Pro is better.

Hello, i watched all your video and i read all your raccomandations, but I'm still unsure. For someone like me who has never drawn but wants to learn, which pen tablet could I get? I would like to spend less than 160, it depends. but I don't know if I need all these keys and wheels or if I just need keyboard shortcuts. Consider that I might not like it and I might get bored quickly if I see that I don't like it, but at the same time I don't want the fact of having taken a tablet with limitations to be the cause of my possible disinterest. Does a beginner like me need additional buttons or wheels? Finally I add, in your opinion are they necessary for video editing, to improve workflows? Sorry for my question but I just can't make up my mind. Great video as always
@thesevenpens
@thesevenpens 8 ай бұрын
Great questions. Happy to answer. For a beginner, find anything that fits your budget here: docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/recommendations/pen-tablets-recommendations Because you want to draw get a medium size tablet. People go either way on buttons on tablets. I generally don't like them and disable them immediately. For others it is important. You'll find options with and without buttons at the link above. Probably safest to get something cheap with buttons - if you don't like them you can disable them. But in general I think buttons and wheels are not "must haves" for beginners. For video editing - I don't think people use tablets at all or at least not very often. It doesn't really help the task. I use a mouse myself.

heyllo i may get a display tablet this year,i've checked your documents as well as a few reviews but to be sure I want to ask, which one would you recommend? a cintiq 16 or a xp-pen artist 16 pro?
@thesevenpens
@thesevenpens 8 ай бұрын
The pen and drawing experience for a Cintiq 16 should still be amazing, though the tablet itself is a little dated now - for example it doesn't have a laminated display so there is a little more parallax. So if drawing experience (pen is very sensitive low pressure, has really wide pressure range, etc) is super important, than it is the better option. As for XP-Pen if you are considering the Artist 16 Pro GEN2 - it's a good a tablet but still lags behind Wacom. Hope that helps a little.
