Don't sell your self short. You can learn something from everyone. Others can learn from you as well, with all the tweaks and mods you've done to get efficiency up in your operation.

I live in Central PA and I will tell you first hand the Amish don't do anything that isn't needed. They are so efficient and so professional at what they do. All my nieghbors are Amish and are super people. I run a small 1 man band mill nothing like this lol. That CAT Gen set is well over 1.5 million!

I do saws for an Amish mill and their bands were so bad that I had To go over to the mill and show them stuff they had to do so they wouldn't destroy their saws. With in 6 runs.

I would think if you put the ASM mill up against a Cleerman Lumber Pro it would out produce it. That is a very cool system.

Logger Wade have You been drinking Bud Lite .LOL..With Your Pronouns . 😂😂😂..Have You ever seen where the Grader is setting Down and Sprays paint like For one common 2 common and Select. When I was a kid I worked in the Grading room. Stacking. And the Grader was above us setting down just Flipping boards and painting lines on them then we would stack them accordingly..Just wondering. Working at a Saw Mill is Hard work. I started out on the Green line and worked up to the Grading room. Technology has changed Alot from what I'm seeing. On your videos . Liked the Video brought back some Great memories..

I noticed you wearing a t-shirt that said Oleson on it? is that a sawmill? My dad worked for a sawmill by that name years ago, was wandering if maby the family moved to a different state and the younger generation restarted or kept the business going in a different state. By the way the mill I am talking about was in Maine.

Great video Wade. If sawing frozen hickory logs is causing problems with your band saws, would it be possible to keep your hickory log inventory decked in the yard until Spring? If you can accumulate hickory logs during the winter and then saw it out when warm weather returns. That would be a way to avoid the frozen log problems. Just a thought. Thanks for the interesting tour of the the sawmills and the updates on the band saw filing techniques.

Unfortunately mills have to saw what ever speices the market is paying the most for at the time. Thats the sawmill struggle in a nut shell. having the right logs at the right time to make the most profit. figure that out and your the king. I love Sawmilling.

Once in a while frozen Maple gives me fits. I run frost notch year round. I'll take a chisel and wail one in as well when it gets very cold. Really helps a lot. I stopped running my teeth wider in the summer as well. If they run well with small teeth in the winter then it should run well in the summer as well. Less horse power drawn. Also if you have dust issues, slowing your mill down helps a lot as well. Our headsaw is 7700 SFPM. Took that down from 8500. Makes a fatter chip.

At your mill do you get penalized for poor power factor? Do you do any power factor correction, if you do get penalized?
