Such a difference this model year is. Glad to see Honda updated the tech and styling for this car since the last model looked really old and tired. I also appreciate Honda sticking with a traditional gear selector where you go up to park, and down to drive. So much nicer and more reliable than those stupid button gear selectors

Interesting. So I like the styling, and the price. Other than that it seems like cars like this are plateauing a bit. I don’t like car payments so I drive older cars. I have a 13 Avalon, and a 10 Fusion Hybrid. The Fusion is a top trim model, and has just about everything this car offers on its top trim other than apple car play of course. I’m also surprised with the efficiency aspect of the new HR-V. Even my V6 Avalon gets close to those MPG figures. I just did a road trip from CA to AZ and I averaged 32 MPH there, and 30 mpg on the way back. I get roughly 22-24 in town as well. Being a car guy I’m always looking for a reason to upgrade, but it’s just hard to justify.

For the second generation, the HR-V meant for the rest of the world is different. That soldiers on with the same platform as the fourth-generation GR Fit (which the US doesn't get, either, but is still sold in Japan and the UK). The US gets what other countries call the ZR-V, and is based on the eleventh-generation (FL?) Civic's bones. This explains the difference in rear suspension (no torsion beam any more) and the increase in size.

We were thinking of getting an HR-V to replace our 2018 Fit (because Honda has killed it off, and the HR-V was supposed to be the next best thing), but if the car is significantly bigger, but yields no more interior room, has much worse fuel economy, but only about 10% more power to offset the additional bulk, it’s definitely left itself out of the running for our next vehicle. Sorry Honda. You bunted on this one.

This car is too large for its supposed category now; it's exactly the same size as the Mazda CX-5 and only a couple of inches shorter than the RAV4! If I wanted a subcompact SUV, I'd get something the size of the Mazda CX-30, Corolla Cross or Subaru CrossTrek and if I wanted an SUV this size, I'd much sooner get the CX-5/RAV4, especially since I think the HR-V was hit with an ugly stick. Finally, the powertrain is dangerously weak for a car that size; 138 lb-ft of torque is even less than the smaller Corolla Cross which has 151 lb-ft yet is widely considered slow. Took it for test-drive today, so, I'm was not impressed. Not enough acceleration for me (but it's ok for a quiet retiree ride), a lot of motor noise from high RPM because of CVT (there is some soundproofing under the hood), rather unpleasant vibration throughout the car when you stand at a traffic light - in my opinion this is unacceptable. The car made in Mexico, don't know about quality and reliability, also the load on the engine and transmission due to more weight and AWD will increase compared to the Civic... The dealership in Colorado asked for $31.115 for Sport Trim with AWD (they add $1654 to price) which is a lot for car like this I guess. So, fair price in my mind for this Car should be no more than $25-28 at the exit with all taxes. There was no desire to buy (especially for this price).
