Great content. I just bought this vehicle. It was not my intention to get a new car or Honda HRV. I'm glad I did. It has exceeded my expectations

This one of the best reviews you have ever done on this new 2023 hrv i mean you were on point on covering everything on this crossover this will be a good choice among other crossovers the sport trim is a definite must for me. i dont need anything for 30k. again great review as always

@Dick Inman. Me too. I have a perfectly running 1997 Toyota Camry I purchased new 25 years ago and I want a HR-V but I will not pay over MSRP or excessive financing fees. I will wait out this bad market for buyers until I can pay MSRP or lower without market adjustments.

Good review. Very good points. I just did a test drive of this. A front wheel drive Sport. My impressions were in agreement with pretty much all the points you made. I agree, this competes with compact SUVs, not sub-compacts. The VW Taos is about the same size. The front and rear seats are very accommodating. The only issue is that to get more rear legroom, Honda made the rear seat cushions low, so tall rear passengers’ knees will be pointing up a little uncomfortably. I found power to be very adequate especially at lower speeds. The engine feels a little weak at highway speeds, but nothing annoying. One clear impression is that it feels premium compared to the rest of the class. Comfort and handling are very good. My only disappointment was that cargo space is not bigger. This is the only category where this clearly cannot match a CRV or RAV4 or Rogue. Other than that, this is very competitive with those vehicles. I would also say that at over $30,000, the top EX-L trim should have rear air vents, a center armrest, and a couple of USB ports and maybe even a 120 volt outlet.
@iggibars2 жыл бұрын
Of course it's not going to match a CRV, Rav4, or Rogue in cargo space...it's in a segment below them, and does NOT compete with them. Why would you expect anything different?
@adamesd36992 жыл бұрын
@@iggibars I completely agree. I was just hoping that since it is almost the same length as the current generation RAV4 and Rogue and previous CRV, that its cargo capacity would also be close. But the long hood on the HRV takes up quite a bit of its extra length for 2023.
@adamesd36992 жыл бұрын
This really needs a Touring trim that would come with the things it is currently missing. (Rear vents, rear armrest, fog lights, and perhaps most importantly, a hybrid or the 1.5 turbo engine). Maybe in 2024, although I have to say, Honda seems to be selling all car models as fast as they can make them. Their big issue right now is that with supply chain disruptions, they can’t make cars fast enough to meet demand. So they have no real incentive to complicate their supply chain problems further by adding a trim that requires even more components. Oh well…

I would skip it if it had the 1.5T it has a notorious issue of oil dilution. Oil dilution meaning it dose not burn it's gas properly/completely, it mixes with the engines oil diluting it and causing it to not lubricate properly. Those 1.5T engines will never last as long as the 2.0L before they blow, some lead footed owners who abuse the 1.5T have issues as soon as 40k miles. The 1.5T makes decent enough power for what it is, but if your planning on owning and not leasing then I cant recommend them at all. I know because I work as a mechanic at a Honda dealership and 80% of my days are now spent rebuilding them and replacing the occasional CVT... We see the new Turbo models roll in for major power train repairs more often then ANY of the older naturally aspirated ones. Honda's 1.5 & 2.0 turbo engines just aren't that reliable and have been seriously hurting Honda's reliability scores in recent years. Dropping Honda from is usual 2-3rd placement in reliability scores all the way down to 6th & 8th from Consumer reports and KBB. If we look at reliability scores of just their turbo engines they've fallen behind Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, and even Ford. The only engines sitting lower then Honda's turbo's at the moment is FCA (Jeep/Fiat/), Chevy and VW/Audi. Also the fact almost all Honda's sold in North and central America are now made in the US and not Japan is playing it's part as well.
@adamesd36992 жыл бұрын
@@aidensnow5017 What region of the country are you in (I’m making the big assumption that you’re in the US). I ask because I used to own a 2017 CRV with the 1.5 liter turbo engine. I never experienced the oil dilution issue myself. However, I am in Southern California, and it seems oil dilution happens with the 1.5 turbo engine in cold weather.

No mention of the Volkswagen Taos at all?

I visited a channel where the gentleman had driven both back to back & he preferred the Honda, said it rode & handled better plus the interior was also superior.
@adamesd36992 жыл бұрын
I’ve driven both. They are actually very comparable. The Taos feels slightly larger inside. While the HRV feels more premium and mature. Interestingly, they are both made in Mexico. I would not buy a Taos at this time, because of serious reliability issues. Owner reviews on Edmunds and other car sites have been very negative, complaining about numerous issues with the transmission, electrical components, etc. And VW was forced last year to issue a stop sale for a while (mainly on the AWD models, but I think they also stopped selling the FWD models for a while).

I test drove both. Strangely, the HRV felt more comfortable, at least for the driver. And outward visibility is much better in the HRV. In most other ways the Mazda is better. But I would be surprised if the Mazda was only $3K more than the HRV.
