I just bought a Corolla Cross Hybrid over a week ago and I couldn't be more happy with it. It has almost every feature I dream of having. I am 6'4" with a high leg to body ratio and I am able to comfortably fit in the driver's seat without needing to move the seat all the way back.

My daughter replaced her past down 2003 Camry with 208 trouble free Kmiles for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross and she loves it. She searched Honda HRV but bought Toyota knowing how reliable her Camry is and Toyota after sales support from manufacturer, dealers, independent mechanic, spare parts logistics and pricing is superior to all regardless of class or price range. Toyota system is number one and unparalleled.

The rear legroom killed the deal for me for the cross. The HRV has 4-5 inches more leg room. I paid a few thousand more for the HRV and loved it so far. The interior space is as large as an accord. I agreed that it isi one of the cars you want to keep for a long time. Don't overlook the rear legroom if you have a small family. Kids grow up fast..

It's the Cross all day every day for me for these specific reasons......1) the cross offers rear AC vents and rear USB ports...That alone is why the Cross will ALWAYS take the cake. It doesn't matter that the "quality" of the products are not the same or the infotainment system is not "as" updated.... The Cross is more of a practical vehicle. Not to mention the panoramic roof that you can get on the cross and the better gas milage. Now is the HRV a better vehicle to look at, sure ! lol It's gorgeous...If you just want a "pretty" vehicle to drive around in by yourself, that has no functionality, then sure.....go with the HRV.......But I'll take the Cross allay, everyday...

Note that Honda dropped over the years in reliability, dependability, on J.D. Power and similar web sites. The top-5 brands are Toyota, Lexus, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis. And Porsche. Honda is well below. Given these cars are transport, not sports/luxury, it would give Toyota Corolla Cross a big lead over Honda HR-V. There is also cost of ownership, servicing and repairs where usually Honda is more expensive to service and repair than a Toyota. And a Hybrid Corolla Cross with AWD is both faster, has more grip and is more economical than Honda HRV.

@@julesinwonderland9102 Sorry you were unable to find a demo HRV, hopefully you can maybe put a deposit down and just see if you like it, if not get money back. I test drove a lightly used Sbuie Crosstrek today, it was the more affordable premium trim level (My friend has the limited high end with leather), it was a 2021 because they had no new ones for a test drive, but I did not like how it drove or handled, the cloth seats were incredibly uncomfortable, and the screen was so tiny it was barely visible. The limited is nicer with leather and a much larger screen, but it also has a much larger price and it doesn't even include a moon roof or auto dimming mirror, all extra. The HRV is MUCH nicer in my opinion, it's much better looking with a more modern interior and better tech. I also felt like it handled much better with a smoother quieter ride, so I am sticking with the HRV, as I also don't trust Subaru for reliability, they have a lot of complaints about expensive issues. I would have liked to test drive a corolla Cross, but like you I cannot find one just to test drive since there are no used ones available as it is a newer model, but I did hear they are not as nice on the inside and have. a lot of road noise. . The pricing for the 2024 models didn't seem to be much different between the two, in my area in southern Ontario but maybe I didn't shop around enough. I just bought a Honda HR-V (LX AWD) for a base price of $31260. To be honest, the wait time was shorter (I got it in 3 weeks vs what would've been much longer for a Corolla Cross) which mattered as my current vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues. Loving it so far! Thanks for your great videos

Great review Shari, this Honda HRV sounds better than Toyota Cross however Toyota will age gracefully. Hondas normally spend more effort on handling and tech but Toyota is going to be bulletproof as usual and will outlast anything in this segment.

I really appreciate this video. I am interested in both of these models. The price difference in Canada between the HR-V and the Cross has evaporated in 2024. There is a $450.00 difference in the basic models. However, if you are financing with them the HR-V has an interest rate of 7.69% for 6 yrs. while the Cross has 6.99 % for 6 yrs. I won't be buying for at least a year until I see better interest rates and better pricing. 🇨🇦

I am getting to the point where NOT having the start/stop option at a red light is a premium deletion. I have that "feature" on my honda and I come to a stop sign and the engine dies, "damn it, I forgot to press the defeat button". I try to remember to do that everytime I start the vehicle but often times I do not and it is frustrating. I wish Honda would delete that across the board. I think Madza does not have it or its recent addition. I live in the south where summers are hot and the a/c dies when the the engine shuts down. I certainly believe it negatively affects the starter and I know there are aftermarket kits to stop this. My car is nearing the end of the warranty period and my thoughts are leaning that way, but it involves disassembly of the console. I digress, I know but thank you honda for NOT putting it on one of your models. 🤐

All of them were almost the same price for me except cross which was 2-3k cheaper but the wait time was 2-3 months. I was leaning to Crosstrek and it has more legroom than cross and very similar to HRV. But the look and the interior design of HRV won. I skipped Tuscon due to the recent fire issue and questionable reliability. I ended up getting a HRV and have been driving it around 2 months. Great comps! Both are great vehicles. The honda has a more refined look as it's overall appeal. The Toyota as with most has that practical look along with more simplicity that equals less to go wrong, a history of consistency. I like practicality and have always gotten that with Toyotas, no surprises. Honda has the same makeup in the engine as the Toyota overall. That's good. Honda simply has always made the BEST small engines in the World, PERIOD. I have a 32 year old Honda hydrostatic riding lawnmower all original including the tires, yes, and it uses no oil nor leaks anything and strong as ever, incredible. I'd have to drive both of these to really decide, but I'm very impressed with that Honda quality look and sheen. It would have to be the newer 23 model if I did go with Yota with the upgrades.

In this particular comparison, I think that the HR-V wins by a nose (the nose being interior room; a must for all crossover utility vehicles to provide and to ensure good sales) HOWEVER, Being just shy of 60 and with no small children, being that Toyota will offer the HSE hybrid with more power, standard AWD and better fuel economy, not to mention that you can get a Corolla Cross with AWD and a nicer trim level for about the same price as the HR-V, I think I'll wait for that HSE and if it costs too much more, then I'll probably buy that Corolla Cross with AWD in a higher trim level. Might as well be pampered while I'm being reamed for thousands of dollars, right? 💰!

I did some more research into this. It seems that Nissan’s Jatco CVTs really damaged CVT reliability reputation. Jeep CVTs also apparently were problematic. Honda and Toyota CVTs seem to be much more reliable, in general. Honda puts CVTs in just about all their cars and small/medium SUVs, basically anything smaller than a Pilot or Passport. So that is millions of Honda CVTs on the road over at least the last decade, a very large sample. And I didn’t read a lot of complaints. I did read a bunch of reviews saying the Honda CVTs were fine. This leads me to conclude that I shouldn’t worry too much about the CVT in the HRV. Just make sure to change the transmission fluid on time and generally take good care of the vehicle, and should be good to go. The same is true about Toyota CVTs.

With that said, even though I like Toyotas, I would take a Camry SE over an Accord Sport, but would opt for a Civic Sport Hatchback over a Corolla SE, and would choose a FWD Urban Grey Pearl HR-V Sport over the Cross. The Sport looks and handles better with the 18" wheels/tires than the EX-L, despite it having more bells and whistles. The Sport is the best bang for the buck for the price, with manual adjust seats and no sunroof, which I prefer. And I am so glad it does not have the auto start/stop feature sone of the Civics are having problems with not restarting and being unable to start, etc. And the Money saved with the Sport can be used to buy all the OEM and aftermarket accessories and equipment I would get.
