2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited | No More Solar Roof

In this video I show you the 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited. The Sonata Hybrid Limited is based on the gas Limited but adds a few small additions. The Hybrid powertrain means this Sonata gets over 50 MPG which is nearly as good as the Elantra Hybrid. One big change for 2023 is the fact that Hyundai discontinued the Solar Roof replaced it with the panoramic roof. Recent leaks have given clues that the Sonata may not be around for many more years but Hyundai claims they remain committed to sedans. It was a tough choice that I’ve been debating for over a year. I like the look, especially the interior of the Sonata Limited Hybrid better than the Model 3. I also like the tech a little better in the Sonata. But I couldn’t find the color that I wanted because they never had any in stock, and with dealer markups, I went with the Model 3 SR Plus. I got lucky with the timing, getting the $7500 tax credit and 10,000 super charger miles. We will see if I regret my choice, I take delivery next week.

@@willm3027 I actually cancelled that order because they pushed my delivery date back to the first week of January, and I would have lost the tax credit and the free miles. Lucky for me that I did, I took delivery of my M3P less than two weeks ago. It was the one that I really wanted, and they reduced the price by 9k, plus the 7.5k tax credit. I couldn't pass that up. I wanted for the speed, and it is fast. It's the most fun car that I've ever driven.

I bought my limited a couple of weeks ago. I have gone 500 miles on less than a half tank. Filled up today and put in 8 gallons. So, roughly I got 63 mpg.

I got a white 2022 limited hybrids (with solar panel). Love it so far getting average between 48 to 49 MPG in mix of city and highway driving. I like all the safety features and heads up display, the only thing I don't like is wireless charging station not working well with iPhone 14 pro max with case (or any other large size phones), it just won't stay in there when you drive. I would recommend getting hybrid over regular gas model just simple because the price is not that much different but you will get lots savings on fuel.

Thanks for the insight! That is good to hear you are achieving close to the rated MPG. It seems like wireless charging pads can be tricky depending on phone/case in vehicles so you aren't alone. You should get a good amount of savings on fuel over the lifespan of the vehicle for sure.

The solar roof was cool. But that’s all it really was, at least in my region. From fall to spring I’d only get a third of a bar for charging. But it was such an amazing conversation piece. I can’t even tell you how many people would ask about them.

I love that it’s made in South Korea also love BSM alerts are in the HUD. Also love 560 miles on a full tank. The infinity sound system in my 2014 was light years better than the BOSE, power output was reduced 100 watts for the BOSE. The 2014 infinity was 450watts.

@@CarsMadeSimple They probably found a way to save on manufacturing cost, just a guess, it’s is truly a shame because the power and fidelity of the infinity system was so much better, TBH I have the BOSE and to me it’s not good at all, it’s not horrible but just unfortunate when they a better sounding system.

We got the 2021 solar roof equipped model; it gave us more range in the summer. I hope it can be converted to plug-in or BEV in the future.

According to Hyundai, it was possible to add range. I would like to test that myself in summer conditions with the most sunlight available.

Great question! I am not 100% sure but it may be possible to fit a compact spare inside the spare tire area.

Assuming you’re talking about the solar roof? Solar roofs won’t ever be viable because there isn’t enough sunlight energy in the area of the car to make a meaningful difference. I imagine removing it saves on weight as well as reducing the overall complexity of the car as a system.

@@CarsMadeSimple Its a quibble for sure but as I shop and view 2023 Hyundai and Kias the issue with the top trims lack of Wireless connectivity seems to have no good explanation. I have no issue plugging my phone in its usually plugged in anyway but I find it strange my 2013 Sonata has wireless bluetooth connectivity ( no android auto of course) and 2023 models do not. Then we have the additional quibble unique to Hyundai in 2023 they still have USB A ports not the USB C that is in Kias! Almost ALL Android phones have used USB C for well my last 3 phones so since 2015 ( I Know I have had an adaptor in My Sonata since then which I'm going to have to use in ANY 2023 Hyundai I choose to buy. Hyundai doesn't seem to care that the Korean market is the land of USB C Samsung phone's and tablets! Unless I go for the Kia Sportage Hybrid ;-) I keep leaning towards Kia just because of this minor quibble with USB-C. Then i would only have the WIRED Android Auto issue and I can BUY the adaptor for wireless... The cars and SUVs are so good I just don't get the two "annoyances'"

So many car reviews go into way too much detail. This may just be me, but I don't care to watch 10minutes of video talking about which buttons are on what side of the steering wheel. Is it just me? Yup. As I was typing this, Cars Made Simple told me where the trunk release is. Don't care. Whatever car I buy, I'm sure it has a trunk release. I'm sure I'll find it. I'm sure it will make zero impact on how I feel about the car.
