The indian chief bobber sounds great at idle but not so much driving down the road. I wanted a bike that sounds as good as it looks. Most after-market exhausts take a few weeks to get but I'm impatient after beating cancer, so I decided to go with radiant cycles shorty gp exhaust to hold me over. Truth is, they sound so good I think I am done looking already and just plan to keep them. In this video you can hear the factory and completely stock 2023 indian chief bobber dark horse plus watch me install the radiant cycles shorty gp exhaust in only 19 minutes, then hear what it sounds like with them. Please keep in mind that cell phone audio does not capture the real sound of either the factory exhaust or the shorty exhaust ... it sounds wayyyyy better in person. After installing them, I drove into town to run to the post office and numerous people commented on how well this bike looks and sounds. People were even stopping me to ask if it was my bike lol
These are the exhaust at amazon (fits 2022 and 2023 indian chief): amzn.to/3NFHPz4

thank you, I am getting a stage 2 kit installed on it this week and just skipping the exhaust. These shortys turned out sounding way better than I expected so I am just going to keep them on it.

Thanks for this video , a great cheap mod for a little outlay , which is probably all you need to do without spending heaps of money $$$$ on a full system , air cleaner , tuner , and dyno test , and it sounds good for what they are , and look the part , Take care .

yea, as soon as I bought the bike after about 2 rides I was like .... this needs to sound better but I couldn't decide what to get ... there are sooo many options and I didn't know anyone who already had something installed i could hear in person because what you hear even on youtube is not exact, even with these. Knowing that, it would be impossible to make a decision based on youtube alone. I must have watched every video on indian chief bobber exhaust .... and since I couldn't decide, I found these and was like ... they are cheap enough, even if they suck I am not out $1500 lol. I was suprised after installing them how well it sounded. I did do the stage 2 upgrade later and the exhaust made it sound great and the stage 2 gave it a stupid amount of power (compared to stock) and if you have one stock, you know they aren't lacking for power to begin with. I'm satisfied with the setup just like it is, this exhaust and stage 2. If I were to replace these shortys, it would be because I found something I liked and heard in person and I might upgrade then just to reduce weight because this setup still has the catalytic convertors installed. They get super hot even with the factory exhaust and I'm more afraid that exhaust area near the leg might get even hotter replaced with something else that is thinner.

I'm putting them on a new Rouge , like you , it's hard to decide when you have to outlay a fair bit of money . What oil you running ? Or are you using the INDIAN SERVICE KIT OIL? Thanks .

@@brettwicks7339 I just had it serviced at Indian so far but prob going to do it myself this year. I kinda felt like the cost was pretty expensive for what it is (i used to do mechanic work when i was younger). The first service was over $400 and i was like nope, not again. It was right at the mileage of needing 2nd service done at the end of riding season.

just to update this video, yesterday I did 378 mile ride which was a mixture of twisty winding blind curve backroads, highway, and interstate ... not to incriminate myself but I was on a time crunch to get point to point ..... with that being said, if you follow my instagram account, you will notice I got 50 mpg average for the entire day. Prior to these pipes on the first 135 miles, I averaged 42 mpg with the same basic twisty winding backroads with blind curves and some highway and interstate speeds

Those shorties sound great but I'm wondering what's holding the pipes to the frame now? It looked like the stock exhaust was held at the back by two nuts. If the shorties are just clamped to the pipes, are the pipes just now held at the head? Sorry if this is a stupid question, there's nowhere near me to check out the stock exhaust brackets. Thank you.

I will have to go outside in a bit and look but the biggest difference is that the factory mufflers probably weigh over 40 lbs (other channels weighed and published that data so i didn't want to just repeat it) and the shorty weighs less than 1 lb so you aren't really adding any stress or weight to the end of the factory headers.

Did you have to do any retuning?? I just picked these up and wondering if I need to line up a retune
@sharpridgehomestead
@sharpridgehomestead Жыл бұрын
nope, didn't have to retune the bike if all you did was the exhaust. If you do the intake, fuel injectors, or cam it will need retuned

So I should probably clarify something many people visiting for the first time probably don't know ... I bought this bike as my "you beat cancer" reward just a year after chemo and radiation. Sadly, the chemo and radiation destroyed my hearing. So truthfully, I don't know how the bike sounded from the factory but to me it sounded like a sewing machine. I can hear it now especially coming to stops and the fuel system loads up and it backfires. As far as how it would sound with the baffles in or out .... i think the shorty pipe baffles are so small it won't matter if you put the baffles in or not - this bike is a head turner now, I am all the time having other bike guys and random strangers walk over and check it out. Also, I originally bought these to hold me over until I could decide what headers and pipes I really wanted. My bike still has the factory catalytic converter but i am happy with the shorty pipes and might just leave them on forever.

Also on a scale of 1 to 10, how much louder are these compared to stock

Let me rephrase my answer, during chemo and radiation my hearing got damaged. I have to wear hearing aids. With hearing aids The factory exhaust sounds like a sewing machine. This fixed that, even without the hearing aids.

How much louder would it sound if you just removed the exhaust without adding these ?
@sharpridgehomestead

It would be the same unless you also remove the catalytic converter

I want it quieter on the highway. My Scout Bobber was too loud on the highway my DB levels were near hearing loss levels over long trips. You will lose torque without baffles from lack of back pressure.
@sharpridgehomestead
@sharpridgehomestead 4 ай бұрын
I do have hearing loss. I have prescription hearing aids (result of chemo and radiation not the bike). I think they sound great on my bike. It is true that you can lose some low end torque with a less restricted exhaust (but you still have restriction from the catalytic converter). I can absolutely state it is not noticeable if there is any torque loss on this bike because it has so much torque to start with....and that was before i also did the stage 2 upgrades with Lloyd tune. Now its just stupid powerful and I've owned a LOT of bikes. I still have no regrets considering cost vs improvement and these exhaust were just to buy time until i decide what exhaust im going to go with in the $2000-3500 price range....which just sounds absolutely ridiculous to say.
