Okay, that one was actually the camera guy's fault. It's one thing to get hit in the head by an unexpected grenade shot, it's another to get nailed in the chest by a disc coming from the direction you're facing, and filming all the way into your chest.

Yeah that one was very avoidable. I have a feeling that guy is thinking what your saying repeatedly in his head. Learning moment. I think the issue is going to naturally resolve as much as it can with time and growing pains. Unfortunate though. If McBeth loses by one stroke we will all have to think about that shot

@@glousy8300 Agreed, and I'm definitely not looking to crucify the dude, we all make mistakes. As you say, good learning moment, and I'd even say fortunate that it was on that particular shot, as I really don't think it affected the score. Obviously wasn't there, but didn't look like McBeth's unobstructed shot would have resulted in a putt opportunity in any case, and judging by the reactions, no one else thought so either. I will say dude could have made a better effort to get out of the way. Sort of looked like he was more focused on getting the shot.

Camera guys shouldn't be nowhere near the fairways and baskets, but that's exactly where they are!!! I'm always wondering did the disc, that just landed on a camera guy's feet, hit him or his gear. Besides, IMHO those cameras don't really add any value to these videos; just shoot everything from where the players are throwing the discs, okay? Also, I find all the rewinds and what not unnecessary, as well, and the videos getting too long. I'm clicking 5s forward one to three times after each shot and I'm still not missing anything...

How is that these camera men are standing in the exact middle of the fairway, either thinking they’re not in the way or thinking they can just dodge the discs? It’s honestly going to be a problem in the biggest moment during a final round sooner or later. And how can we pass of what happened to McBeth’s disc as “well, it wasn’t a guaranteed birdie” ….really? Terrible speculation.

Ill keep commenting it until someone at DGPT sees it. Why have these top notch cameras that can zoom in like 1000x and then have camera men standing ANYWHERE close to a distance a player can reach? Stand WAY farther back and if the shot isn’t there…use the player cam shot and show the catch cam shot from angle. Why are you standing in the flight?! (Sam/Jeff Talking to you. Hiring off Nepotism instead of skill, knowledge, experience, references and merit)

Yeah and to add to that, when the camera has to spin around for a shot that goes past them, it makes for bad footage. I just wonder in this case if he wasn't standing there because of the slope. Like I'm not sure if he could have gone farther back without a raised platform. Either way he's gotta be more on his toes, that was just no good.

Camera man here. But not for disc golf. One answer could be: zoom lens is not a substitute for point of view. Cameraman have to place themselves in a spot that allows point of view of multiple flight paths, and in a place that will allow them to quickly maneuver to a new location. If the cameramen were to stand way off the fairway, it would be a very different look as well, one you would not enjoy watch as much. It’s easy to manage all these things, but there have certainly been times when the camera people were clearly is terrible spots.

Exactly. The view from where the players are throwing the discs is the best. But use the zoom to keep the disc visible. See how it's done in golf. If the disc goes behind trees and such it's OK. No need to have 10 cameras all over the place. One more thing: if the disc is moving left to right in one shot, and right to left in another, you are doing it wrong!

I love that Simon is so controlled these days, but since I spent time with him in 2015, he continues to use what I call "concentration tongue". I did this as a child, and was teased over it, so I learned not to fairly quickly. pp will comment on here theyre lined up with their target which is the gap FINE thats different then being told one must line up their throws WITH THE BASKET .. there are times when you have to line up the GAP and let the disc angle get you to the basket but the point is INSTEAD of saying always line up to the basket instead say always line up to the GAP youre trying to hit bcuz if you hit that gap your disc will get to the target!

You could tell Mcbeth was upset when he made the last upshot cause he didn't even try to make it look good, lol. In all seriousness though, I hope the cameraman learns from the experience or does something else. I'm sure it's hard to pay complete attention when you not only can barely see them throw from afar. But also, you're supposed to make sure you get it on camera, so it's probably easy to get distracted on the importance of watching then forget the moving away lol. The job itself is like others' difficulties and we should welcome seldom mistakes for learning purposes. The problem is when this involves pro level events. Although that mistake probably won't hurt Mcbeth or the corporations running the event, film crews, etc (maybe the guys chest). Imagine it being someone who is less known as Mcbeth in this same instance though. Realistically, every event is of the up most priority because you never know when you might play near or at the top of the field. It's just really hard nowadays cause everyone's really good. So to be lost your fair chance, you might not get to meet your goals, profitable worth, or may even be sad or mad. Now, I don't think these things are super affected. But a lot of these people basically invest their whole current lifestyle to make it their craft in a sense. And when your craft can't be seen for all its glory because others accidents it shouldn't be a bad thing if it was truly an accident. However, if it ever got to a point where it was almost sabotage or neglected to do a job, I think they should be fired or moved to a different position. There's just too much on the line for these guys and whether people think they just have it easier because they are on your TV. Then you're probably right, but not always. Ig the main thing anyone should ask themselves before they try to do anything is: am i willing to take responsibility for my mistakes if i fk this up somehow? Thats probably the best way to know if you are ready for something.

In ball golf do they have out of bounds behind the greens? Then why make it in disc golf? Out of bounds right behind the green is so dumb in my opinion. It makes the approach shot harder then it needs to be. And then punishes good shots when the person is putting for birdie or par as well, if they miss and go long. It feels unnecessary and should be removed in my opinion from most courses. Let the people have a putt and not worry about going long and hitting a random unnecessary OB line that's just put there to make the putt harder.
