Always enjoy seeing logging and the trucks from other countries. I live in western Canada and used to be a welder and build logging trucks. It's different here bcoz we also use really long logs where it looks like you guys only use short or medium logs.
@tomaugust6 Жыл бұрын
Some are cut to order for export, other good logs are random for sawmills and the smaller stuff may be random for chipping for Paper / Cardboard Mills.

We do cart longs aswell. Not much here in southern part of NZ but definitely in the north island part. If you can see at 13:50 that blue volvo truck only has a single packet on his trailer instead of the usual two. That truck is specifically designed to cart longs, so the truck and trailer combo converts to a semi truck kinda looking.

@TechnikMeister2 Жыл бұрын
Very sought after jobs. The immigration requirements are formidable and the licensing takes a couple of years of upgrades from a basic truck license. Same in Australia. Most contractors are owner operators and you would need $500k to invest.

I was once in New Zealand, North and South Island, and was shocked by the large industrial forests. Tourism advertising always talks about New Zealand's great nature, but unfortunately the reality is different, three quarters of the original rainforest has already been cut down. I've also come across a few logging trucks like this, you have to be very careful, they certainly don't slow down.

Those original forests got cut down 100+ years ago with early European settlers and 500+ years ago with Māori arrival, all native forests are protected now. Plantation forests are sustainably managed and regulated.
@peterpan7903 Жыл бұрын
@@thfmlymn4498 If you describe the industrial forests in New Zealand as sustainable, you also have to describe the soya fields in Brazil or the oil palm plantations in Indonesia as sustainable. Everywhere the original primeval forest has been cleared for this purpose. There is also almost nothing left of the original plants and animals in the industrial forests. In addition, almost all the rivers in the lowlands of New Zealand are so heavily polluted that it is not recommended to swim in them. There are some very beautiful, little-touched primeval forests in New Zealand, but these are only very small areas. But what works really well in New Zealand is tourism promotion.

Yeah… there’s a lot profit for the private sector, to be sure. IDK… the trucks are cool, of course, but it just seems wrong to be stripping the hills and land as the industry does. There’s got to be a better way.
