🧏♂️ I'm pretty sure that he was referring to the carb tuning, and NOT the 2stroke oil / fuel mixture ratio. So, if his carbs are adding too much fuel, and that's the the way his motor is running too rich, then there "IS" something wrong with that, and he will want to retune his carburetor. Otherwise, if it was running too rich because there was too much 2stroke oil in his fuel,...(although it won't hurt his engine) it won't help his engine's performance, and so he will probably want to fix that, too ! 🤷♂️

@JETZcorp2 жыл бұрын
@@PNW_Car_Mods I have a 440 Maico, and I'll tell you my 250 from the same era is WAY more scary to ride. Maicos are smooth and predictable, especially the big ones. Very refined porting with a smooth predictable build-up, and LOTS of weight in the crank to keep power going to the ground and not spin up too fast. The newer ones (83+) are a bit more edgy but still whipped cream compared to a CR500. Meanwhile my 250 is a total Jekyll and Hyde murder machine.

@@PNW_Car_Mods The 125 is a rocket ship too but I think the point of this big engine is controllable power, you don't have to hit a power band to make it go. It's not all or nothing. Keep the revs low and it's not insane. This rider put his feet down more than I would. Maybe that's the style.

I have never had the chance to ride a open class Big Bore two-stroke. I'm 58 and I would still jump on one in a heartbeat and try to not let adrenaline put me in the hospital! I love 2 Strokes. Four strokes are cool also but two strokes will always be my favorite. 1974 Honda CR125 Elsinore ripping down the dirt road in front of my house when I was 10 years old left a huge impression! And when I walked out to the dirt road and saw the destruction it had left behind with the lingering smell that I would later discover was castor oil, I knew this was like nothing anybody had ever seen before! It looked like a plow had dug up the road. Lifelong roostertail addiction was about to begin.

ATK did import these maicos and grind off the maico name yes. newer Zabels since 2000is are 4 speeds, in the 90s they were 5 speeds. Essentially with Maicos, they keep removing 1st gear. So an 83 Maico had a lower first gear but then in like 86, they basically moved 2nd gear to 1st gear through changing the primary drive. Then Zabel took the Maico engine in 90s, in 2000, they just removed Maicos' 1st gear and 2nd became their first. They have a lot of torque and for the racing they decided they never needed first so they kept removing it.
