The ECO mode allows to reduce the usage of heating and A/C if this feature is enabled via settings. Go to Settings and then into "ECO Settings" and then into "ECO Drive Mode" and there enable "ECO Climate Control" option. Then whenever you will drive in ECO mode the car will use heating and A/C less aggressively which also means that the engine will not start so often for heating and the car may use less energy for heating and A/C. The previous generation Outlander PHEV had the same feature as well.

The previous PHEV seemed to cycle to air conditioning on and off in ECO mode. I would notice the vent air temperature going up and down with that setting. Also if you pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor it would not start the ICE to give you the added power. The accelerator pedal has what feels like a detent in the last cm or two of travel that takes quite a bit of force to go past. Both the old and new versions have that. In normal mode the ICE engine would always start if you pressed beyond the detent.

Is there a lower thermal limit when EV mode will not work anymore? When it is really cold in Canada (think -20 to -25 C), will the car still run in EV only mode once it has warmed up? It would also be good to test the City EV range mode when it is really really cold - 20 C. This is a very common situation with people going to work in the morning in Canada during the winter.
@ihikebc2295

Since the EV battery is used to start the engine, the user manual advises it may not start below -30 Celsius. So, you would be stuck until it warms up. Also, engine power may be reduced below -15 or above +45.

@Mr. Mitsubishi - Thanks for this video, it was very helpful. 👍 When you initially departed the dealership parking lot, the vehicle was in "EV Mode" and the engine was running to assist in warming up the cabin. In this situation, when you pressed on the accelerator pedal to get moving, did the engine rev up or did it remain in idle? Just curious. Also... is there a way to bring up an engine tachometer on the digital driver display? As well.. is there an icon on the driver display that turns on to indicate when the engine is running?
@mr.mitsubishi

If engine is running and you step on gas - your RPM's will go up as well. You can't really see the RPM's anymore. They just want you to focus on EV I guess. Energy flow charts are the best way how to tell when engine is running.

We have a brand new 2023 SEL. If you preheat, while plugged in, using the app you get heat (or cooling) and heated seats and steering wheel. I'd assume the issue you have is because you are doing it manually not with the app.

I thought it said all US and Canadian model had a heat pump but it still ran the gas motor when it needed heat. We have a Niro phev and it does not a dedicated heater either, so it needs to keep turning the gas motor on and off even in EV mode. @@andremcamara3120 The preheating does not require connection to the charger. You can start it without connecting your car to anything. The only requirement is that it should have enough charge in the battery.
@dkostasx
@dkostasx Жыл бұрын
Yes you can preheat the car without plugging the car in, but then it will use the battery charge. This also requires that you have enough charge in the battery. The engine will only start if the car is turned on, e.g. in Ready mode and only if the intensive heating is required. So if there is a big difference in cabin temperature and the temperature you have set in the A/C panel as target temperature, then the car will start the engine. If the difference is small, then the car most likely will be able to heat the cabin without the engine. The problem is, however, that in winter with sub-zero temperatures it is practically impossible to get heating done without triggering the engine start, because the lowest temperature you can set for heating will be way above the actual cabin temperature which will practically always trigger the engine start.

@@anthonyg8435 Outlander has always been able to heat cabin without using ICE since 2014, in Europe, Australia and Japan and in 2018 for NA. But it uses Resistive heating. Works well without the use of ICE until it reaches 5'C, lowered than that the ICE kicks in but can sometimes be turned off when EV button is engaged. I could control heating for EV only mode much better on my 2018 Outlander PHEV 12kWh than I can on my 2022 Outlander PHEV 13.8kWh. @SkaBob

Another dealer did that and it cost $7. For just 40-45 miles it's not saving any money vs just using gas. It may cost different amount depending on the location and company but there isn't much point to fast charging a PHEV. At home it should cost under $2 or there are also free L2 chargers at some stores, hotels and other locations.

Most DC fast chargers here in Alberta are ~$20/hr, so as much or more as gas. Now and again you can find a free one (there is exactly one I know of in the Calgary area) but by and large it's just sort of an extra port that you will barely use, unless you have one of those crazy reverse power packs in your house and you can use the car to power your house for a day or two in an emergency.

Charge the battery to 80% when idling for 95 mins and use 1.5 litres of fuel. Very efficient. Will use more fuel when driving in charge mode. Afraid of car theft when idling unattended? Use both keys. One inside the car to let it run and one to lock and unlock after charging. Have used this three times and charge gives a t least 65 km in 95 mins and little fuel use - won't register on fuel gauge. I regularly get 85 km per charge using one pedal driving, ev mode, eco, and adaptive cruise which will stop the car when another vehicle in front.

@NoelRCrawford
@NoelRCrawford 11 ай бұрын
Hi ihikebc. I don't know of a remote start but if you look at my reply of 3 months ago it tells of a alternative. The car will charge to 80% in 90 mins at idle. I've done it and it used about 1.5- 1.75 litres. The other method is charging while driving. Using normal mode the car will still be in hybrid mode and can charge simultaneously and will use 2 litres of fuel under 90kph. Best way is to go into parallel mode which is tarmac on the dial and charge. That way the engine will engage, mild hybrid will be used and charge will take about 45 mins. Use when travelling 100kph+ for charging. In normal hybrid mode while charging the battery on the go under 100kph or just at 100kph you will get about 9l/100 kms but when not charging in normal mode you'll get 5.5 l/100kms. ALWAYS USE ACC TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THE CAR IN ELECTRIC OR HYBRID. Ive not tried driving in power mode except for 15 or so secs at a time as there is too much power delivered when not needed. The car when in EV or normal mode will deliver oodles of power when demanded. Hope this helps- ask more info if you wish
