I wish more plantubers did this sort of thing… this year I lost some of my most babied plants and it felt good to know I’m not the only one. I did learn a ton of stuff though.

Yeeaaahhh plant funeral time! I love these videos, because they make me feel less bad about all the random things that killed my plants (mostly me, I, I'm the problem it's me :| ).

Thank you for normalizing plant demise. I've lost several this fall due to pests and recovering from knee replacement. The strong ones loved me back and some of the others just didn't make it.

I love it when you do these videos. I don't own a bunch of expensive plants, but I still love the ones I have. So, losing them is pretty painful sometimes. But it's comforting to know even plant "experts" go through the same thing.

I think I get really hung up on the cost when plants die. It’s a good reminder that it’s something to learn from

Is it weird that this is one of my favorite videos you do all year? I love all the messages - it's okay and normal for plants to die, it's healthy to get rid of plants we don't want, especially if they go to someone who does want them! Love it :)

Becca, if you try Alocasia again, try using a self watering pot or a pot with no drainage and a lecca layer. Mine are finally doing great. I have some in TFF & soil and some in PON. They’re all in no drainage with a lecca layer. I am even keeping a Black Velvet happy. I’ve killed a lot of Alocasia and this method is the only way I’ve been able to keep them alive. Happy New Year!🎉
@marcelacecil3036 Жыл бұрын
did you know that Alocasia goes dormant? did you know that it puts out corms all over the pot? I threw a lot away because I think they are beautiful and finally realized the dormancy/corm production.
@carolinebaines8735 Жыл бұрын
@@marcelacecil3036 yes, I never throw anything out unless it's mushy. Then you know it's dead.

Ha! I treat my Calathea Orbifolia like a long lasting flower bouquet. Trader Joe’s sell 8” pots for $12.99 so every few months I buy a couple. That said, a few stems from each purchase actually live so this last time I had to upsize my pot! I’m hopeful that eventually enough stems will acclimate and I’ll have a plant I don’t have to replace all the time.

I love this video, thank you for keeping it real! I beat myself up a lot over the plants I kill, but this is such a lovely reminder that it happens to all of us, especially when other parts of our lives need to take priority. I struggle with my mental health a lot and it regularly affects my ability to care for my plants, this past year more than any other and I lost quite a few plants as a result. For me it’s my mental health, for others maybe it’s work/school, an injury, a baby, etc. At the end of the day we all have things that do (and should) take priority over our plants or just outright affect our ability to care for them. Of course that means there will be casualties and that’s okay ❤

I say this every year...I really need to keep a list of plants that exit my collection via the trash for whatever reason. It would be very interesting to see! Especially after this last weekend when I threw away like 5 plants. New year, new collection expectations! And those didn't make the cut!

Fun video! I had a plant I wanted to toss just yesterday, and my husband guilted me out to making one more attempt to save it. He thought I could give it away, but didn't understand that it had spider mites and curled leaves, ugh. Anyway, we will see. I have one more trick up my sleeve and then it goes if it still looks like death. We are talking calatheia with curled leaves and brown tips. This has been cathargic. Haven't lost too many plants this last year. I should make a list, but don't really like lists. My last ditch effort is usually putting them in a terrarium. If that doesn't save them, nothing will.

My ficus Tineke is on the slow decline rn 😢 i bought it with spider mites, realized in may and then spent the whole summer fighting them. It finally perked up, but then they came back. I fought them again, chopped it up, and now im stuck in limbo with cuttings that wont grow until march. Im just gonna toss it, it was $15 and i can easily replace it with a bigger one, one that i will do a thorough inspection of.

I have never found its worth the effort to chop and prop a Agleonema. Just do yourself the favor and buy a new one cause they never look good again just start over with a full and happy plant cause once they go ugly on you just replace it.
