2023 Proton X90 TGDi EMS Hybrid 7sp DCT Tested! FULL Drive, Walkaround & Interior | EvoMalaysia.com

(Enable closed captions) Howdy folks! Here you go! We got to drive the new Proton X90 SUV recently, and here's the full drive review both from a driver and passenger perspective! Apologies for any gaffs, it's been a while since I attended a new-car test drive, and I'm a bit rusty.
All in all the X90 proved to be quite a remarkable large SUV, the first from Proton, with more than adequate grunt to take 4 adults up to Genting Highlands. Power comes from the same engine powering the X70, a 1.5L TGDi, however, this one is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid EMS system that bumps the power to 197Ps and 300Nm of torque (X70 produces 177Ps & 255Nm).
Drive goes to the front wheels (there is no AWD option available in any of the four variants) via a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). Have a look at my Community Section for a breakdown of all 4 variant trim levels. So what are we waiting for, let's drive!!

It suppose to be flagship proton model but it's almost there... Sadly... The nitty gritty details would have really made it really flagship like the bonnet struts&better wheel design. Kudos on the rear multilink suspension though!

the car (LHD) has been on the market for a long time (4 years), Filipinos say many problems, small engine, not durable, lots of vibration, noise and high repair cost. Motor and battery add maintenance cost. Not all foremen are able to repair

What's your opinion on people's complaints about Proton's Geely-based cars? Is it valid, or just Malaysians being overly judgemental about Proton?

I think it stems from long ago when Proton did indeed produce some absolute trash passing off as cars. You won't find a harsher critic than me when it comes to Protons cars, since in total I've owned about 10 of them in various guises over the years. I've been hopeful for the brand's resurgence since the Geely acquisition, and thus far I think they've done quite well. I'd say go give these new ones a try first before judging, but as u know, haters gonna hate. Oh well, cest la vie 😊

Very weird manual shifter design by China cars where you need to push to the left and up gear by shifting up. I think they dont really care about attention to details when it comes to providing the ultimate driving experienced for driver. Mazda manual shifter on the other hand will be push to the right which make more sense because driver is on the right & up gear by shifting down / down gear by shifting up which make even more sense when it comes to driver comfort (hard to describe in words). That's separate Mazda from Geely. Attention to details & fine tune.

@@ChrisWeevilGarage Yes this cars does comes with alot of various extra gimmick features like auto parking which we driver doesn't even need except blindspot monitoring, RCTA which is useful. Like Mazda said, sometimes LESS IS MORE
