Thanks for being honest with my question. I do agree that small and medium size cons tend to get more connected and chill with each other. 😇

Yeah, anime cons at 30 years feels different from when i was in my 20s So much of "been there done that" mentality Got tired of the raves and some of the same panels every year, stop spending on merch and art. Only go to have fun with my friends from outta town . I kind of enjoy the bigger cons more; theres more to do .

30? Old? Too old for conventions?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 My crew and I are in our late 50s and early 60s. It does take a few extra days to get our minds back to the real world.

Thank you for the thorough answers! I want to clarify my last question, I didn’t mean are there specific events you want to attend, but rather, are there specific experiences you would want to do at a convention (a specific actor you want to meet, a specific type of video you want to get, that sort of thing)

There is multiple Colossalcons at the different Kalahri locations. One is in Texas and I think the game room/entertainment looks better than Colossal prime in Ohio. Iv been to Colossal East that has woods with trails and a waterfall area behind the hotel. Very beautiful for photos and video.

I'm a few years younger, but been on the same manga journey. Back then, I was much more into anime and merch. Also reading Kaiji lol

This was a really fun video! Here's a really weird question about cons: Do you have any tips on keeping a packed hotel room comfortable? My friends and I don't necessarily pack *a lot* of people into a room (no more than four to a standard room), but we were just discussing that the worst part of our last con-and this was really the only not-fun thing about the con-was how humid our room was with four people taking two showers each every day. We're trying to figure out some ways to make this better next time so thought I should ask you.

I'm doing a panel at Youmacon this year about anime conventions from the mid 2000's to late 2010's, so I've been looking up every con possible, and I can attest that America has the wildest cons, I've noticed the Midwest and east coast have the most hectic chaotic energy 😅I think we have more internet inspired trends and con events that lend to a bigger party and community-like atmosphere, where cons overseas tend to be more tamer and formal. I think the only countries that come close to matching the US's energy are Mexico and Australia!

Also to add, Kaiji was made into an anime too (it's my partner's favorite); I cannot watch more than one or two episodes at a time because it makes my heart right spike so much 😂. Have you read Goodnight Punpun (Oyasumi Punpun)? That's their favorite manga and it also leans heavy into exploring psychological existential crises.

c: If you check out any Texas cons, I definitely recommend San Japan (one of my favorites) its in San Antonio, Ikkicon is another one that has gotten better organization since it moved to the Kalahari.

If you can start a conversation, what would you have available and what would you try to avoid? What is your take on separating idles and masquerade?

This was a great Q&A! Im definitely going to have to throw a new question in for your next one! Im in my early 30s and I definitely noticed how cons have changed throughout the last decade. Im not terribly bothered by how cons seem "sanitized". I personally think its alot of things that started this shift into the con culture we know now. Anime being far more mainstream, the rise of smart phones and social media just taking over our lives, the Cosplay is not Consent movement being the the word of the lord at every single con you go to, stuff like that. And alot of cons are seeing big important sponsors, so a family friendly front is indeed going to help with attracting industry sponsors. I agree that cons used to be a sort of wild west when I started going in my late teens. And I think that sort of wild west atmosphere still exists depending on what con you go to. Like you go to enough of the same con and you pick up the sort of vibe and culture of that particular con. Every con has shenanigans, but they each have their own flavor. There are cons I go to that I will say without a doubt are a literal nonstop high energy party, and there are cons that have a more tame and chill atmosphere. Im really looking forward to your season 2 of new con adventures! The cons in the midwest region do look pretty awesome, but it would be great to see you venture out to other areas and get your perspective on them. Ive just attended cons from the North East/Mid Atlantic region of the US so Im just going to throw in conventions that I recommend! ~Katsucon (2024 is a no go, but 2025 maybe? Its probably not like DragonCon party central, but this con parties hella hard and the location and venue is A+++) ~Anime Boston ~ConnectiCon ~BlerdCon (This con parties HARD literally all day and all night!) ~AnimeUsa ~Otakon

@@0ctobuss And I totally get that! Ive been to so many cons that I really dont get that sort of same charm at being at the con then when I was a teenager. Its more nostalgia for me, but the excitement is still there. Just looking back at when I first started cons which was like 2008, there's alot that happened back in the day that would not be tolerated today! The sudden 1000mph glomps from nowhere, people getting hit with yaoi paddles spring to mind. And "Cosplay is not Consent" definitely was not a thing yet! I see it as we were growing up and cons had to grow up a bit too. We were that generation where anime in the west was getting more exposure and it was just amazing to be around other kids and teens that also loved anime, and spending a whole entire weekend just talking about anime? Hell yes. But we were also kids and just wanted to do whatever and the environment at the time just sorta encouraged it. Plus we were years away from blasting folks on twitter. But we grew up, saw that the stuff we did wasnt cool. Con staff saw that what we did wasnt cool and could potentially get the con in trouble. I see the "sanitizing" as weeding out the bad behavior so that cons could thrive for a new generation of con goers. And yeah there's still bad behavior that goes on, but the response is much less "well, that's just how it is" and more "no this is not cool, we need to call out this behavior".
