Too bad there isn't a higher wattage model of this charger available, unless of course if you use two chargers in parallel? Would that interfere with the charging stats on each unit?
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
It's definitely possible to run two units in parallel if you have the wiring chops to parallel connect their outputs. The charge stats would get split roughly equally between each charger but that's not much of an issue.
@orthodium Жыл бұрын
@@GrinTechnologies I already have two charging ports which are wired in parallel, but it’s good to know there is no issue running two at once. I just heard there are sometimes issues with parallel bms wiring due to the possibility of some conflict, but I guess this issue doesn’t concern the chargers.

Ooo! For EUCs with two charge ports, can you just hook up two satiators for 720W? 😲
@jeffreytong Жыл бұрын
Nice to see this focus on EUCs. Is it limited to 103V? Would be nice to see higher voltage support for future proofing.
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
103V is indeed the max. It's scary to think that PEV builders are using packs of this voltage already since it presents an electrocution risk that is non negligible. 72V stings pretty bad with wet hands, and 100V is downright uncomfortable. Not sure why future PEVs would consider going even higher! There certainly isn't any performance advantage, as mosfets rated at more than 100V have much higher ON resistance and you usually end up with worse controller efficiencies.

My 72v satiator has been great ! The ability to set voltage charge limits is probably one of my favorite features. I appreciate the polarity safety alert as well. Because plugs for chargers are not universal on all PEV’s & can be difficult if not impossible to source, I cut at about 30cm above the charger port plug and install a universal connector so I may use my satiator. I trust the satiator safety features a lot more than any charge brick I’ve received from actual PEV manufacturer’s.

How about a new 32S version? Love my cycle satiator, been charging my EUCs via my own plugs for years now, but 72V can’t charge today’s EUCs that are above 100V 😓

only thing stopping me buying one is the 5 amp limit on the 72v version it would take 8 hours to charge my pack from flat to full
@SouthSideChiTown Жыл бұрын
Unless it's your main source of transportation, charging above 5 amps will cook the capacitance medium in your batteries severely shortening their lifespan and potentially creating weak or dead cells and risk of fire.

can you talk more about the signal that the battery or the cycle satiator put out to indicate that a charger is connected to the battery and allows the battery to begin chargin?

Since the adapter is seem to have a comms cable in them, have you ever considered putting an ID chip in the adapters that automatically selects a profile?
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
Yup and in fact we even have a firmware that supports this, but in spite of it being available no one has actually done much with it. Keep in mind that there are multiple voltage setups that use the exact same adatper cable and plug type, so while there are some contrived scenarios in which this is useful, there isn't much of a general case for it.
@IcyMidnight Жыл бұрын
@@GrinTechnologies I was thinking more along the lines of each cable has a random id, and you can set the satiator to pick a profile from the cable so when I connect my cable id abc123, the satiator selects the 100.8V charge profile for my EUC and when I plug in my cable id 773def, the satiator selects the 50.4V profile for my ebike. I'm just thinking it'd be good to help prevent me accidentally throwing 100V at my 50V pack 😝

Which of your new adapters is the one I need for a ninebot max G30LP scooter? The G 30 model has the charger built-in but the G30LP model uses an external charger which I believe I can use the cycle satiator with.

What connector is used to charge the 48V batteries with 2.0 amp charger?
@Warekiwi2 ай бұрын
My Satiator has worked perfectly over 5 years charging the 48v custom made battery on my velomobile . I particularly like the ability to set the desired soc at end of session and similarly to my Tesla only charge above 80% unless 100% is actually needed. I would love to be able to do the same with my eMTB (Shimano setup) have you figured a way to connect to Shimano batteries??
@GrinTechnologies2 ай бұрын
It's on the agenda. From what we've heard the communication protocol shimano uses is not that complicated to reverse engineer and it looks like EU will be passing regulations requiring all ebike battery manufacturers to make any ebike battery communication protocol disclosed to allow 3rd party charger compatibility. Nice to hear you've been enjoying it all the same and hopefully we'll have an adapter for your Shimano bike at some point.

Is it possible to allow the charging of a lower volt than 12v on the lithium charge. It would be handy if it could charge single cell 4.2v parallel packs. Especially for custom batteries.

Also i know i will have to cut off and solder the scooters charge plug to a 2/3 pin pigtail to match one of the options on that cable kit.

Did this do 5A all the way up to 100.8V or do they still taper off after 72V? Edit: 360W, so I guess ~3.5A at 101V. Slow by modern EUC standards, unfortunately. 😔

I love my satiator it charges a number of my ebike batteries but I'd love to be able to charge my shimano steps battery but no adapter cable is available. Will Grin ever make one for the shimano steps batteries or is it just not possible?
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
It's just not possible. Shimano has gone not just with a proprietary connector but also a fully proprietary communication protocol between the charger and the battery on the extra signal lines. As soon as the battery no longer sees an official shimano charger 'talking' to it on the signal wires, then it blocks the charge port from allowing current flow. You could in principle do it by opening up the casing and soldering in your own charge leads directly to the V+ And V- cell terminals, but there are risks with that.
