I've owned my SsangYong Rexton Ultimate for nearly 2 years and I'm very happy with car. The Nexus tyres are ok. I can't find AT tyres at 255, so when the time comes I'll go 265. I have added the side step. I've found getting the 2200kg beast up on plane (100 kph) quite good. Negotiating city traffic has not been an issue for me. To tow the 21ft caravan I've upgraded to air bags, the standard suspension was a bit soft. When towing the caravan I have found using manual mode a better option. I've also found because there is hardly any working engine noise or wind noise, it's easy to slip above recommended highway speeds even when towing the 2900kg caravan All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase decision and would not hesitate in buying another SsangYong Rexton Ultimate. Its the value for the money that is most charming point id say! For a family of 4 or bigger, to drop kids off, pick up groceries, drive away over the long weekend, commuting to work, it will do just fine. This is definitely one of my option for when my family grows in size.

Here’s one for you motoring journos. You might wanna start looking at everything that’s relevant before carrying on like clowns about tyres etc - just some advice if you want to retain subscribers through detail that most would appreciate. This thing shits on a 300 regarding payload. We’ve got a 3.2 ton van with 280 on the ball. Let’s put that on a 300 Sahara with 670kg payload and you’re left with 390kg - work out the rest with a family, bullbat etc, absolutely piss poor. You can fix that by spending $$ upgrading the GVM after you’ve forked out 150 grand. Let’s have a look at this 50 grand Yong. Payload is 830kg with a GVM of 6460kg. Absolutely shits on a 300’s payload. I work in mining in NW WA - have done for 20 yrs and consider myself lucky on excellent pay. Would I buy a Toyota with my hard earned, haha f’no - and we get discounts with Toyota as the company probably buys half the worlds supply for mining! Approach journalism a different way that may help Aussies in the long run. Start calling out the shit payload and GVM’s of vehicles 3x the price. Couldn’t give about the tyres, they must be alright if carrying an 830kg payload and they’ll get changed anyway. These reviews need to be relevant and informative to families looking at detailed reviews. Given families are getting F’d over with everything from the cost of living these details and more would help. As for no curtain airbags for the 3rd row - the review of one last month had them??

You can also order the Rexton Sport motor in the Musso. Excellent power... No need to pay for brand hype. What could you do with 40k left over from not buying a Ranger. Happiness... Think about it...

Don't categorically hate on Nexen tyres. Like every other tyre brand, there are budget lines, and more premium or sporty ones. The tyres on this suv are from the N'Priz line, which are a low tier (if not the lowest) offering. Nexen also makes the CP, N'Fera, and Nxxxx n(e.g. N8000) lines which are all excellent. Every new or used car I've owned, I've always switched the tyres to Nexens when replacements were needed. The grip is great, and smoothness and quietness are right up there with some Michelins, and after years of trying all sorts of brands like Hankook, Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Firestone, and Michelin as well, I'm yet to find a better tyre at the price point of Nexen tyres. Many times they exceeded the abilities of more expensive alternatives.

Issues?? I fail to see any issues. Bottomline, you can't find any real issues and so you manufacture some, and then whine about it. The tyres are fine for what it was intended. The sidestep is an option and it is indeed an option on every SUV except those that cost you almost double what the Ssangyong costs. This car brand and model does an excellent job in giving value for money. Much more than that, I think it is good quality product that dares to be different and is not afraid of slugging in the mud. All in all, I believe it is an excellent choice for any discerning buyer who is not hooked on hype.

It actually does have curtain airbags in third row. At least mine have them 21elx model

Thanks for the review guys. One feature (or lack thereof) not pointed out in the review was the absence of adaptive cruise control in these, a strange omission in a vehicle of this type when compared with its rivals. Hopefully the facelift addresses that when it arrives here. The interior of the facelift version seems worth waiting for with the updated infotainment screen and adaptive cruise (expected), which I'd trade features like the heated steering wheel away for any day. Oh and resale will always be a factor with Ssangyongs compared with, say, the Everest you mentioned.

Great review guys, funny as hell! I own one (black edition) loving it!! has heaps of space for the family and pretty well put together. apart from the factory Speakers are really crap (taken out and replaced with something better), the headunit is quite dim and the crappy nexen tyres that dont grip. we still love it.

i own 2023 ultimate , and need to say a like it a lot, but when the road is bumpy, it is really unconfortable, the suspension doesnt stop the bumps and after a while, it becomes terrible to drive it., i have two option right now, change the suspension, or change the car for another brand., i tried changing the rims, which didnt make that much change, from 20' to 17' and still filling the bumpy road.

The Ironman kit smooths some of the sharper bumps, it does not eliminate poor ride - but it improves it and there is more body control and less dive on brakes - plus you end up about 40mm higher. Also stops the pogoing when towing - that is markedly different !

@@nicholasolsson2894 thank you so much for reply, there are actually too little complex reviews about these kits. What exactly you mean it only improves poor ride?? For me, the body roll and not sporty handling is not the thing, because I am family guy who drive safe and relatively slow. I actually like body roll:) So only thing that matters for me is how road inperfections are smoothen out - how soft(comfy) ride is. how noisy hits/vibrations to the body on frame are reduced. Will ironman improves this aspect. thanks

@@duska3529 yes the same bumps are now softer , not as much vibration comes through. But at the same time with a large undulation in the road the car now settles faster. Look it does still feel the bumps on very poor surfaces - but it’s a worthwhile improvement. It does not make it ride like an Everest unfortunately - but it’s so much better that I can live with it now - no need to upgrade to the Everest

Yep worst tyres ever, got them on a musso elx ,changed for Yokohama go15, night and day difference, even though they were all terrains they were quieter better grip and economy than the nexens, Michelin suv premium would be a great improvement for this car

I thought I noticed green springs out front . . If so it has the Ironman suspension upgrade kit installed. Please confirm . I’m 6’3” and my head hits the roof in the ultimate trim which has sunroof. I don’t fit .

This is definitely riding higher than a standard model which might also explain the excessive roll in bends
