2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO: The Last Year Of An Old-School Boxy Off-road SUV

In this video, I will review my newly bought 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO in Solar Octane. I've had several of these old-school boxy offroaders and still love them even though they're overdue for a redesign, which will happen in 2024. These 4Runner TRD PROs are one of the last few true 4x4 body on frame SUVs that have diehard fan base.

My shoes are actually red but do look different from different angles, like how Solar Octane can change slightly depending on sunlight. I do love this 4Runner, and maybe I'll keep it for several years. Thank you for your support Dean!

Nice review. I miss My Lime Rush but happy I got the solar octane it definitely turns head's. Super happy that it now has the heated steering wheel and smart mirrors

Yes. I definitely have to agree that it has the best color of TRD PRO only colors. Don't get me wrong. I loved my Lime Rush and REALLY loved my Voodoo Blue and Inferno (hence why I resprayed my C36 AMG with it), but Solar Octane takes the cake. The addition of heated steering wheel and puddle lamps is definitely overdue but welcomed!

Hi Ehsan. A couple of notes: The 1GR-FE has 270 hp, not 273. Also, it has 278 ft. lbs. of torque; not 270. The curb weight of the TRD Pro is 4750 lbs, not 4780. The front brake calibers are 13.3 inches, not 12.4. The rear brake measurement is 12.3, not 12.4. Your over-graphic at time mark 4:40 says that the 1GR-FE debuted in the 4Runner in 2002. Not so. This engine debuted in the Tacoma in 2002, and didn't reach the 4Runner until the 4th Gen model of 4Runner was released in 2003. I stopped listening at 6:09, so there could be many more errors/misinformation in the remaining 17 minutes of video. Those are the glaring errors I caught off the top of my head. I recently found your channel, but I am unsubscribing now due to the inaccurate content.

Every other video I've seen says the new 4Runner will get a 4 cylinder turbo and/or a 4 cylinder hybrid system. I think it's very unlikely that it will get the Tundra's V6.

I doubt that it'll get the 4 cylinder turbo or 4 cylinder turbo with hybrid... but the new RX500H Performance F-Sport that I got has a 2.4 Litre Hybrid (2 electric motors) that makes 366hp and 407lbft torque... it's fast as heck, too. So, it could use that engine but hopefully it'll be a detuned 3.5 V6 twin turbo iForce.

@@radridesbyehsanshirazi8779 All the people in the know, like Automotive Press on KZbin. Say it will be a 4 cylinder hybrid max from the new Crown or the engines from the Lexus NX. I'd love to see the 4Runner with the Tundra 6 cyl but I don't think it will be.

@KP HVAC I think and hope that at leaat they offer two choices of engines. Lower trims (SR5, TRD Sport...) get the 2.4Litre Turbo 4 Hybrid and higher trims (Limited and TRD PRO) get the 3.5Litre V6 twin turbo Hybrid iForce Max engine. Like I said, only time will tell. BTW, the 2.4Litre Turbo Hybrid in my 2023 RX500H won't be disappointing since it's powerful, and there's ZERO turbo lag.

@@radridesbyehsanshirazi8779 I would love to see a V6 option. For me a hybrid 4 cylinder 4x4 that can get over 25 MPG highway would be perfect! I don't tow so MPG and some off-road capabilities are all I want.

@KP HVAC 25mpg would be nice, but realistically, an SUV that heavy even with a hybrid would probably get real world 22mpgs. But it's still much much better than these dinosaurs that get 15-16mpgs. I think the majority of people that buy these 4runners are like you and I.

You just might be right depending on Toyota executives' decision. but I thought 2023 was the last year for the 5th Generation 4Runner. Only time will tell!

We have a deposit down on a Solar Octane, just waiting for it to come in. It may be 6 months to a year before we get it. Our main reason we want this is, no turbo, no 10 speed transmission, body on frame, and the Toyota reliability. We keep our vehicles for 10+ years. This may last us a lifetime.
