If you want to keep your vehicle for 2-5years then maybe go for the Ranger. If you want dependable reliability great resale and want to keep the vehicle longer decades even then cough up for the Hilux. Having had a new work Hilux for 6 months and now the new gen Ranger, I'd go the Hilux every time.

Old Dog still soldiering on after almost a decade. The exterior looks good but the interior is outdated but I would suggest they focus on the Next Gen then make any more updates. One of the most reliable pick ups out there

I love this line - "the new suspension still makes it feel like a ute, a bit skiddish on the back end"...... Probably because the Hilux is a UTE, designed as a work truck. Their competitors are designing glorified SUV's with a macho look to make the woke folk feel like they possess a rugged personality. I think CarsGuide seem to be confused about what a UTE actually is and would not be surprised to see a CarsGuide sponsorship on the next male competing in a female event

Everyone goes on about the ford ranger, but I wouldn’t trust a ford to even make it past it’s warranty (anyone remember the territory that all the journalists loved too? That turned out to be a lemon!), where the hilux had decades of impeccable history! Case closed

I had mine for three months and I’m just loving it the best car to my knowledge. I know you guys talk about Ford ranges and all that sort of stuff but Toyota is the Toyota and when you want to turn around and salad you most likely gonna get your money back or make a profit compare to other 🎉

Put up against the new wildtrack, I would pick the ford , and i love the Toyota Hilux. 🤷‍♂️😎👍

Best ute in the world for reliability. Would you do a round trip around Australia with any other ute and almost be sure that it wont break down? Would you cross the Simpson desert in another ute? It’s dated in many ways but almost bullet proof

Ive been an auctioneer in the industry for 37 years. Driven everything. Theres no doubt that the new ford ranger v6 drives beautifully against the hilux, isuzu,bt50,navara, etc. these are old school bone shakers in comparison. However. Put a load in a ranger or tow and the rear sags in an instant. Put a load in the hilux and it transforms the vehicle. Ive had them all as company cars. Recently retired. Guess what i bought? A hilux. Why? Less electronics, slightly smaller and so better off road and inwant to live with the 2.8 to see if toyota has done the right thing re the 70 series (which is my prefered vehicle).

Not sure why this is getting reviewed off road. They are a daily on road vehicle. 99% never see 4x4 action. I'm sick if reviewers not reviewing these kind of car for what they are and the important information needed, ie on road driving, parking in shopping centres and school drop off's

No way I'd buy a ranger. Known unreliablabity, ask any tow truck driver, poor build quality, u protected suspension sensors, plastic trans oil pan.... the list goes on.

Toyota did a great job in brainwashing me. The old 'Toyota Tough' promo is still banging around in my head. Having said that I am older & wiser now and value for money is a huge part of my decision making.

Definitely worth paying extra for this over sr5 for the wider track and lift. Potentially avoid the need for body mount chop when fitting 33inch tires.

Fairly certain the marine grade carpet in the tub is actually a product called Bedrug. Made from polypropylene, not carpet, it can handle soil, dirt, firewood etc - simply use a blower or broom to clean. Being plastic, it doesn’t absorb liquid either. Added benefit is items dont slide around like on regular tub liners. Blokes in the US retro fitting their ute tubs with this product. Worth noting for those considering a Rogue.

Every 6 month service is a fxxken joke. I m in NZ got the narrow wheel space version same engine and it is 12 month or 10km service capped at $330.
