We are pleased to share with you the video of our final Client Care Program Continuing Legal Education Event of 2024, held at Anne Arundel Community College’s Arnold campus (John A. Cade Center for Fine Arts) on Saturday, December 7th from 10 a.m. to noon!
A two-part presentation was offered. Traveling from North Carolina to share her wealth of knowledge with us is special guest and featured presenter Dr. Michelle Fritsch, Pharm.D., BCGP, Founder of Retirement Wellness Strategies and Cofounder of Propel Comprehensive Wellness. Dr. Fritsch is a healthcare professional board certified in care for people over 60. She is a nationally recognized expert in health at retirement and beyond. A frequent speaker, author, and contributor to national initiatives, she uses her experience to help clients identify their goals for healthy living, find the supporting resources that are right for them, navigate the healthcare system, and map a plan to navigate common pitfalls in retirement. She recently published Preventative Maintenance for a High Mileage Life. A summary of her presentation, titled “From Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda to Can, Should, Will” is below:
"Many successful people unknowingly overlook the gap that poses the greatest risk to their future. They are on top of their financial and legal planning, but pay little attention to their health and wellness planning. Why is that? And how will it impact your future?
"How would you rate your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social health? Do you feel confident in medication management?
"If you want to thrive in your retirement years, to be fueled by a sense of purpose as you check off the items on your bucket list … start by investing the time to create a comprehensive Wellness Portfolio.
"Then, put it together with your financial and legal planning like a Reese’s Cup to live your best life."
The second portion of the presentation is offered by Mr. Stephen Elville, Managing Principal of Elville and Associates, and Mr. Gary Greenwald, Principal of The Law Offices of Gary Greenwald. Steve and Gary discuss an important new planning tool to be educated about - the beneficiary deemed owner trust.
A synopsis of their presentation is below:
"Many Client Care Program members have saved and invested a substantial amount of assets in retirement type benefits such as 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, IRAs, 457(b) plans and other tax- deferred savings vehicles. Since the passage of the SECURE Act in 2020, clients who wish to protect retirement plan assets that will be left to children, grandchildren, and other beneficiaries via inherited IRAs owned by spendthrift irrevocable trusts now face an existential crisis regarding how to protect those assets while at the same time avoiding the onerous 37% income tax that results from such planning. In this 30-minute presentation, members are introduced to a new concept that has come to the forefront over the past eight to 10 months in the world of estate planning, that of the beneficiary deemed owner trust (BDOT). Steve and Gary will introduce the BDOT concept and explore its pros and cons and present members with the opportunity to reconsider how best to leave their retirement plan assets to loved ones."
