The thing I love about watching people's perspective of their hikes is the inspiration it gives me, such a gift. Expectations sow the seeds of disappointment; a bitter crop when harvested. While I was growing up, there was no one to teach me how to be a farmer of my own garden. Our society reflects this lack of awareness and the freedom of choice, which is our birthright. I appreciate your journey as being bigger than a walk in the woods :

This comment was intended for 72 part 3 😊 You are having a good day. It IS hard to rest/relax. I'm glad you made the time to do so. Your viewers have not forgotten your knees hurt, your shoulder hurts. You are working hard and even harder to share the wondrous moments of this journey via You Tube. That day i delivered Trailmagic in your honor, i asked if any of them were youtubers and they all loudly proclaimed, "No! That's too much work!" So thank you for doing the EXTRA to share with us your viewers.❤

Thank you for appreciating the work. It really does require quite a bit of time and effort. It also provides a lot of joy for me (being able to share the trail and experiences). So I am grateful for YOU too. 🙏

From what I've read and watched, I'd expect exactly what you have. Maybe there are pockets of escape on trail, just not as a whole. One of my pet peeves is passing other hikers who are playing music with no headphones. That can pop me right back to the real world in a moment. I am glad that you're starting to find community on trail. I loved the total solar eclipse because everyone was connected and seemingly in harmony in that magic, but I don't feel it often myself. You are doing amazing on posting videos, don't worry about not doing more or feeling uncomfortable about videoing at times.

We are kindred spirits. Several videos ago you talked about how you live your life and things that have happened to you and now today, I’m looking at you going through your checklist to help remind yourself of things to do when you go into town. I do the same thing. And as far as how you live your life, I parallel nearly everything that you feel and do. Love your channel.

Maybe it’s a perspective thing. The first thing you mentioned was how you hoped you made it to town before it rained. Those power lines can be beautiful if you look at them for all those comforts they will provide in town, lights, laundry, cool drinks, safe refrigerated food, fans, etc. I find thinking that way helps me navigate aggravators. It’s a human thing, people want to escape but we also want all that commerce, capitalism provides. It’s a conundrum. I think I went on the trail knowing it was type 2 fun (meaning it’s not fun/what you expect/mostly work), you just remember it as fun and the best experience 😂 It’s actually an inconceivable amount of work and woman, you are getting that work done, bask in that!👏🥾🙌

Thanks for taking us along. We hope to have some chances to go backpacking in the near future. But we are no different than anyone else, everyone has his own story, which we all have to work through. Since you mention some of your hopes and expectations about hiking the AT, and things that did not materialize. Well, from the very little we know, if you really are eager to experience more wilderness, then the Continental Divide Trail might be for you. But on that hike there will way fewer people interactions we guess, sine only 150-450 people try a thru hike each year. On the AT up to 4000 try it each year and counting all the day hikers and section hikers over 3 million. True wilderness and a lot people do not go hand in hand, and the AT is very accessible. Hope you have a wonderful time at trail days and can find some like-minded people. Be safe

I was on the CDT for a bit last August when I was hiking the Colorado Trail. It definitely has a different feel than the Appalachian Trail.!

Tara I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s sudden death years ago. I to am a widower. My wife was succumbed to that hideous disease, ALS. I knew what was coming for her but I also realized I had to make some adjustments so that I could be her caregiver. I lost 45lbs , started a calisthenics with weights program, and walked at least 10 miles to keep the weight off and be fit to move her around when she became immobile. After her death I told myself I’m going to try to live life as best I could and experience as much as I could. I eventually I hike all the mountains in the Catskills and quite a few in the Adirondacks and all of the highest peaks on the East of the Mississippi. I continue to hike and master the martial arts of Taekwondo, Kumyedo, and Jiu Jitsu. You mentioned being a somewhat a hippie, that is cool. Here’s the song I start off with all of my hikes and hopefully my AT attempt in 25. Just change the word, Utopia for Katahdin. “ Road to Katahdin “ 😉🤣. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4mwYWV_aat_o6Msi=WRRvGVt_uHXIyOwU

I've never been a back packer, i doubt i will ever be. Always as i drive from PA to VA on highways, i often think about what it's like to have been pioneers and navigating the mountains and trying to decide how and where to set up home or move on. That's not exactly where you are at, but you get to feel the real mountains on foot. Can you imagine traversing this with wagons and horses? Ughhh I'm baffled at the amount of dogs on the AT. A special breed for sure.

I often contemplate what it would be like to live without the technologies we have now. It certainly would’ve been a different different world.

Expectations! Such a great topic for those of us who haven’t experienced the AT. It makes sense that the trail would be a microcosm of “the world,” but I also thought it would be more like your initial expectation.

The water where you called is the Roanoke reservoir. The train you heard carries cement from the Titan limestone quarry outside of Catawba.
