Just my opinion, but I preferred Ruffalo to Gosling's Ken... especially that crazy dance scene with Emma Stone. His arc from self-assured rake to a whiny lovestruck loser was hysterical. KOTFM and Poor Things were my favourite movies of 2023. Barbie and Maestro are overrated. Guess I'll be rooting for Oppenheimer.

Picture, Director, Score, Cinematography, Editing, Actor in a supporting role are looking favorable for Oppenheimer, with other potential winners being Actor in a leading role and adapted screenplay. Other craft nominations are with lower likelihood of winning, such as hair/makeup and production design. The lowest chance of winning is going to be supporting actress, but even without that win, it would be considered a sweep.

I’ve said it since they announced it. Putting Lily Gladstone in Leading was a mistake. It’s much too competitive a year and her role is absolutely a supporting role. If she was placed in the supporting category I think she would have had a deserving sweep during this award season.

BAFTA with it's jury picks makes it kinda irrelevant to Oscars overlap tbh. My take, if you didn't get nominated at BAFTAs its not bad for your Oscar chances but if you did it gives you a slight boost. The BAFTAs are just sooo British. The guilds are the biggest precursors in my opinion. So many actors who miss BAFTA go on to get an Oscar nom and for some they actually win the Oscar. Also Oscar voting closed on the 16th so these won't effect the nominations.

"The Zone of Interest" is in Outstanding British Film and Non-English Language, so technically it's already in two Best Film categories.

honestly, these nominations are so out of whack that it doesn't really make things interesting, it just makes it feel like the baftas are going to end up looking like drunkards by the end of awards season. like Cooper for Maestro and Payne for Holdovers over Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon is one of the most laughable things in any awards show I've ever seen.

Disgusted with the snubs to KOTFM re the major awards (except best film - which I doubt it will win based on the snubs). Maestro is overrated - Mulligan was the best thing about it. And selecting Robbie over Gladstone for a nom for playing a doll???? No disrespect to her, but it wasn't really that challenging a role for the bulk of the film. At least Past Lives got some recognition.
