I wanted to try these out together on similar pieces of wood to see how they compared. I am not sponsored by anyone, these saws were purchased with my own money.

I own an excavation business and we routinely clear 1.5 to 2 acres of completely wooded East Tennessee land for new home builds. We clear with nothing more than a 5 ton mini excavator and two electric 80V saws with 5 batteries total, that charge from solar. When you're an hour away from any fuel station yet sunshine is completely prevalent, the transition is easy.

OMG! I never thought that the EGO would be that much faster than the Greenworks!

@John-cj3ve The difference in a sharp chain is pretty impressive as well.... did you see that the CS2000 cut faster than the CSX5000? I assume it's because the CS2000 had a new chain on it... but I did give a disclaimer before I did those 3 cuts with the commercial saws 😂
@John-cj3ve
@John-cj3ve 4 ай бұрын
@reusefull I DID see that! That's the first thing I thought of was the chain. It's mathematically impossible for that to happen; all other things being equal.
@John-cj3ve
@John-cj3ve 4 ай бұрын
I know you made mention of it; but; given that the other two saws had 8ah batteries; wouldn't a more accurate head to head comparison been with all three saws having the same amp hour rating? The disparity between the EGO and the other two would have been even greater!

@John-cj3ve I tested the saws the way I did for the benefit of someone buying the kit, spending the money it costs only. Not sure about the Ryobi, but both the Greenworks and Ego can be modified or outfitted differently to get an advantage... I just wanted to test them as you buy them for the average person looking to buy.

Your tests are great...but I would love to see somebody test these saws out on a piece of round hickory that is at least 12-16 inchs diameter.

I went to 'buy' a replacement bar for the Ryobi 20" saw. In the parts list; for THAT saw; the replacement was listed as 18"! No 20" replacement available!

I haven't seen or heard of any boastful advertising by Ryobi regarding the performance of their chainsaws. I think they're just banking on people who are already invested in a particular Ryobi battery platform; buying a Ryobi chainsaw just because they already have a supply of those batteries. I think Ryobi makes decent tools; just not the best for any given one. I would appreciate if someone could direct me to any advertising by them to the contrary.

Now for the Ryobi test with the 2ah battery! I don't expect much; but I'd like to see if it will at least RUN with that battery. THAT would be a niche that this saw could fill that the other two can't; a lightweight 20" battery operated saw. That might be it's redeeming quality. (Yes I remember you said you were waiting on shipping for it to get to you.)

I'll try to get the video published. I couldn't finish the cut on the 18 inch log, but almost.

I'd appreciate a review of the Greenworks 82Volt saw, specifically the 82CS34. 2 motors, 3.4kW. All of these saws can benefit from a shorter bar and narrower gauge. Less friction in a shorter bar and chain, narrower kerf means less wood to cut, faster. I appreciate the tests, good work!
@reusefull
@reusefull 3 ай бұрын
2 motors? What size bar are you using? I can't find anything bigger than 16" that uses a .043 gauge.

I have the standard ego 20". Stock chain isn't bad. Fell 6 trees and cut them up. Had a stihl chain made up from a roll. But it's a pretty aggressive chain. It does run through some big ash though. Also had the 18" last year. Liked that too. Milwaukee just came out with a 20" that takes dual forge batteries. Besides the Milwaukee videos. I see two guys comparing the csx5000 against it. . And the ego cuts faster. With their test...I want to look up more between them. Cause that Milwaukee isn't cheap.

Ryobi has a 40 volt 12ah battery with 21700 cells would it work on that chainsaw? If so it would give it a lot more power and run time.

@shannonholmes2494 Excellent! I didn't realize a 12ah battery existed. That could change things. I'll have to investigate, thank you.

I still say Ryobi's pretty gusty charging big boy prices for an 18" chainsaw with a 20" bar. I remember you've already told me the ADVERTISED specs were different between the 18" and 20"; but it's nowhere near as technologically advanced as the EGO for the price. And as far as the Greenworks goes; they're giving you some real 'meat' for your money. The Ryobi appears to be wearing the 'Emperor's New Clothes'...

@@John-cj3ve It's true. In would say Ryobi is offering the least of the 3 for just under $500.

Do you think Greenworks will ever consider coming out with a 40v 20" saw? They already have the platform; and they have an 8ah 40v battery. Also; they have an 18" 40v saw. What's to keep them from putting a 20" bar on it and marketing it that way. Might give ME something to do. 🤔

I wonder if the engineers for the Ryobi saw are getting their butts chewed? 40 volts must be plenty enough; given what Milwaukee is supposed to have done with 36.

I'll check when I get home. I adapted a 3/8 bar to fit mine and I run a standard 3/8 bar with a 3/8 driver on a rim sprocket so I can switch easily. The 3/8 low profile chain that the included bar uses can be cut to 69dl by some online places like Forester

My 20" EGO CS1800 project is complete! The assembled unit with a 5ah battery weighs 15lbs 4.4oz. With a 7.5ah battery, it weighs 16lbs 11.3oz. It cuts just fine. It is only a little easier to get it to stall in a full bar cut. Not enough to worry about. The number for the Oregon bar is 200SXEA041, in case anyone is interested.

...also; I tried ordering a full chisel chain for this bar, but didn't have any luck because of the odd number of drive links for a 3/8lp 050 (68). The online saw shop that I was able to make a chain for me; assured me that while this Oregon chain that he has, is quite aggressive. It is NOT a safety chain. 91VXL068G. It looks like semi-chisel to me. But I tell you what; it didn't take much pressure from me to get the motor to 'draw down'. Cuts very much like the full chisel chains I have. Maybe the aggressiveness is due to the fact that it's not a safety chain. I don't really care. I just know that I'm very happy with the outcome of my long awaited project.

I'm reading Home Depot's ad copy for the Ryobi 40v 20 inch chainsaw. The only boasting I see is that it has more power than a 50cc gas saw. I think that claim is false. Your opinion please?
