edrive 40 is a good compromise. M50 if you can swing it
@radglitch72336 ай бұрын
I am currently driving the M50 as a daily. I am in absolute love with it. So, I am a little biased when I say the M50. I think the better question is iDrive 8 vs 8.5. I am so glad the 24 has iDrive 8.5. It's so much more refined than the previous OS.

Probably the most in-depth and insightful review I have watched to date. It differentiates because most reviewers have not really driven the car sufficiently long enough, have enough i4 specific knowledge, and have generally repeated the BMW recommended talking points, as a condition of receiving a car to review.

I've had mine for 9 months, best commuter ever. If you enjoy driving, never ever ever drive in eco pro, its like training wheels on a bike. You get 0 steering feel and floaty suspension. Put it in sport (steering/drivetrain/susp. all sport) or sport individ (comfort suspension) and drive it like a modern BMW. You do get adaptive suspension with the M sport trim. You can easily surpass or match the EPA efficiency if you drive the speed limit and other weather factors are in your favor. I used to get pulled over in my E46 M3 frequently just because its an M Car and I don't think a cop has even looked at me once while doing questionable speeds in the 35. Valid points on the price (Tesla is giving away model Ys at this point)
@BogeyTheBear6 ай бұрын
Eco mode for long hauls on the highway where you're not cornering and need to stretch the miles. And yes, you need to put it into Sport if you want to go canyon carving for the tighter steering response.

The i3 was set up where you didn’t have to worry about the whole 80-100% thing bc what I understand even at 100 charge you would technically never a full 100 I would think the i4 would do the same

I think the electric cars BMW builds currently are fantastic. I wonder how much their models increase not only in range, but also in efficiency when they switch to the "Neue Klasse"-electric only platform. Looking forward to :) Thank you for the video, I still dream about owning an i5 one day^^

Most people charge at home, which is extremely convenient. In four years driving an EV, I've never had to charge at a public station. (Plus, with the solar system I installed to power my house, excess capacity also powers my car.)

Does the edrive35 come with lumbar support in US? Here is Australia it does not, and my back starts aching after less that 20min drive. They do come with seat heating, which is very usefull here in Australia 😂
@nihilistictanuki69476 ай бұрын
Will get mine in the end of June, ordered a edrive35 (initially I wanted to go for the edrive40 but in Austria there is a 10k Euro difference between those models, so I opted for an edrive35 with tons of features instead). I loved the testdrive with this car, felt really comfy but also sporty, with more than enough acceleration for daily driving.
@bmwblog6 ай бұрын
For most people, e35 is enough.
@mathiaswallgren6307Ай бұрын
How did you find the seats without the lumbar support on the edrive35? I could not drive the edrive35 without getting back pain. The edrive40 comes with lumbar support, but that is over the FBT threshold, so for me is not an option. I guess I have to look for other alternatives.

I read on BMW specs that we may only worry about preconditioning the battery if charging on level 3 type of charger, planning to preconditioning 20-30 min before charging. I am taking my edrive35 to a trip from DC to Ithaca-NY and probably stopping for charging a couple of times, or every 2 hours of driving. We will see what happens...

I can never understand the “charge to 80%” philosophy on any battery powered device, including a car. You’re basically recommending to cut 20% of the car’s battery life for the entire time you own the car so you can prevent reduced battery life later on? Seems counterproductive to me .. just get the full battery life while you have it and accept that battery degradation is inevitable
@bmwblog2 ай бұрын
Because the 80-100% charge is very very slow. So no point to wait when you can stop later and charge faster to 80%.

I wasn’t aware on the current brushed motor on these cars. Would you say they also use brushed motor on the e40 and M50?
@BogeyTheBear6 ай бұрын
I believe that all BMWs in the "i" line use a brushed AC motor to eliminate the need for neodymium magnets. Theoretically it'll last for over 125,000 miles and theoretically it'll be a relatively simple thing to service.

Little $20 one I found off Amazon. I just keep it there as it helps it cool as the air vent blows on it. One downside to the charging pad is there is no cooling to it, and it can get really hot.

Charging a Tesla is always easy, other EV charger stations should follow that. I have an i4 40 and took it on a road trip and found a lot of people think they have to use high speed chargers just to go to the store. The charger we stopped at was in a Costco parking lot and people were charging their cars while shopping. People are just plain dumb, they don’t bother to learn how charging works and don’t know high speed charging is supposed to be mainly for road tripping.

If you don't actually need the extra range of a 40, the bigger battery is just more weight.

A homeowner with an at-home charging setup will find the E35 more than adequate-- most travels are well within range while anything farther out still the car gives enough battery capacity to carry you to the next charger on your journey. An apartment dweller with no charging option available at work will appreciate the bigger battery in the E40.

In my i4 E40 M-Sport, I can hop down to visit my sister in L.A., go back home, pull into the driveway before realize I forgot my coat and have to drive all the back. At that point then I'll have to stop by the EA charging station just down the hill from her house in order to recharge above the 30% I'll need in order to get home again.
