A wiser choice would have been a 2500 sized spinningreel. Thoose 500's are really not that great. I'm a baitcasting-nut myself but a missmatch is a missmatch...

Next the rod been a cheapo, with slapped together parts, maybe ok for bait cast but definitely not spin reels, bet the spin rod first guide is less than 30mm(guessing 20mm), wont affect bait casters, but spin hate it. A spinning reel with a bigger capacity like a 2000 or 2500 would cast better. Bigger spool. More line coming off from the outer portion of the spool, causing less friction with the lip of the spool. A smaller capacity causes the line to come off from deeper on the spool quicker, increasing friction. I'm usually a fan of multipliers over spinning reels but not when it comes to BFS lures and line sizes.

Most people are using 0.6 or lower on a spinning reel that small. Not to mention higher tier shimano reels have the long stroke spool which further assists with casting, the sienna is an entry level spinning reel.

This video answered a question I always had, and that is why THEREELTEST channel almost never reviews spinning reels... and I'm a long time follower. A small diameter and shorter spinning reel spool does not equal to "ultralight spinning reel", it's mostly the weight of the reel that makes a spinning reel ultralight so it balance nicely with an ultralight rod. Casting distance on a spinning reel is mostly dependent on line diameter (thinner braid for best distance), spool diameter (bigger diameter the better), and line lay on the spool (longer spool height and slower oscillation makes the line come off easier), better spool lip design for less energy loss and obviously longer rod. These great features can be found on higher end reels like the Vanford, but even getting a 2000 size or 2500 size Sienna would be better than a 500 for casting. You picking the 500 Sienna distance casting 4 gram lure is like picking a Daiwa Tatula 300, in terms of picking the reel for BFS weight distance casting. I read some comments here and I have to agree on some of them… In a recent video, you mentioned you barely used spinning reels in fishing, so I just assume your knowledge in spinning reels is not as in depth with bait casters. Nothing like butt hurt feeling or anything like that, but when I saw this video on your channel I just noticed something off… you post great stuff man and I always appreciate the bible verses in the beginning.

Great video and get ready for spin fanatics, they will be coming fast and furious. I will grab my spinning gear 100% of the time for dropshot and low light fishing. It use to be this way for trout fishing on streams, until two years ago. After a couple of days on the water with the 22 Aldebaran, there was no going back. I've never compared ultralight casting distance between the two because distance was never a problem with either due to the type of fishing. But I absolutely can say the distance on the open water is ridiculously in favor of baitcasters and it's not even close. The one thing that has people shying away from ultralight baitcasters is the effort needed to be able to have a repeatedly functional cast. Hand both reels to your friend that doesn't fish much and see how many casts he can make with each before you have to respool. For one of these, the answer is always one so I do get it if you do not fish a lot.

And yes, I do have and fish with several of both types of reels and enjoy both. That said, I would rarely go bank fishing with only my bfs due to the real possibility of a catastrophic birds nest lol. @@DustyNonya I currently own more baitcasters than i do spinning reels. Just built 2 really nice sets for this summer, the biggest problem with baitcasters are that you need to have a specific type of spool and bearing to be able to throw lures under 7g somehow efficiently. I was just out testing my 10-30g vendetta v3 rod and even the 10g lures were hard to get far with a normal baitcaster. I haven't been able to test my bfs setup yet but i really don't believe much from it since the rod was a lot stiffer than i would have liked (LEW'S TP1 speed stick). But i got it for -50% so i decided to keep it for my other reel since it should be an insanely good rod, i've once had a rod with the American tacle microwave guides and it was unbelievable, for a 7-42g that was stiff as hell i could still throw the smallers lures from my box insanely far on a spinner setup but my friend broke the stick in half :(. As you point out, Baitcasters generally have to be designed for those light baits or simply have a tighter band of usable equipment. I can also swap out an extra spool faster than most backlashes can be fixed; but that's just Pre-BFS finesse tactics as I'm kinda old anymore 😆

Results were same. Your casting shows inconsistancy. Same rod you hit 85, then 100 with spinning and the casting hit 103. What you actually proved was your casting has a larger effect.

i don't see any of the use a 1000 or 2500 size reel people sending him a reel so he can put it on that same rod with the same line and cast it to see if distance improves. Or make a donation for him to buy that size of reel to test. Or you can buy all the components like he suggested and post a youtube video. May be we will comment your air temp, pressure and altitude wasn't the same as his or your bait caster wasn't set up right.

lol exactly! Ive been telling these fanboys to post their own videos disputing my results and how many have done it? ZERO

Fair comparison! Give ReelTest a break lol. That cheap spinning reel is just fine for the test. When line peels off, it dosent rely on any advanced fancy features, it just peels off. With the adlebaran, yeah it makes sense to use the best, because everything works in conjunction to allow the cast to work. Anyone I see using spinning gear on light lures is usually using a 500 reel anyways.

and the Aldebaran didnt even win lol

Exactly peels off and peels off way easier when it's full. 500 size reel with miniscule spool and thick ass line has tons of friction because you empty line in no time and you have tons of small coils that creates more friction than bigger but less coils.

@@gvidasgi2480 - definitely true with the coil diameter

Tham man great video. Now i know why I have better distances than my friends ussing baitcasting reels I just fought they don't know how to cast 😂

This guy lost me when he pulled out the crappiest spinning reel in a 500 size when u shouldve been using a 1000 - 2000 size for max casting on ultralight rods and use a vanford at least for the longer spool for casting distance ... and fill up the spool with line ... i own both baitcasters and spinning reels and spinners definitely casts longer distance so this test is VOID ... DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS CHANNEL FOR ANY TACKLE ADVICE .

I have millions of views and there is nothing you can do about it lol

The hell are you ppl talkin about 1000-2500 size spinning reels? Atleast where I live, 500 THE size for ultralight and isn't that what we're talking here?
@THEREELTEST7 ай бұрын
Thanks for being intelligent enough to realize the purpose. I was casting ultralight lures. And even with the 500 Sienna there was a ton of line left on the spool after a long cast.
