I've had mine nearly a year now. It was bought as a lighter alternative to my RT1200. It's now my go-to bike, it's done 5k miles, summer and winter, still immaculate. The TFT menu takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it's easy without looking. The in built tracker and vibration sensor are great and reliable, and it comes with 4 years of recovery free. I love just riding it for no reason, just for the fun. I've never had the neutral gear issue. It's heading to Portugal in a months time, and I know it will deliver having toured around the Lake District and Scotland on it already. Residuals aren't great, but no intentions of selling so irrelevant. Great review !

This exactly what what we did with Japanese bikes in the 70s called them rotten and most wouldn't buy them A decade later and it was a different story. I have had my Benelli 502c now for three years and its still rides and looks like new.

This looks as though the Chinese are doing what the Japanese did with car manufacturing back in 70’s copying popular cars and their styling but making them reliable and cheap. Gaining a good market share and with time developing their own very good cars. My only concern is over reliance on one country for our products, if China decided to switch of the supply tap rest of the world would be stuffed

I'm just back from holiday in greece, where all the scooters and quads seemed to be cfmoto. The hire guys really rated them for reliability, easy to work on and robust, and they can't get enough of them. I had a little 200cc scooter, my wife and i have a combined weight of 26 stone, and that little thing took us all over the island, up twisty 1 in 3 gradients, mountain dirt tracks, in town, zipping along tarmac roads, and never missed a beat. Started in less than a second on the button hot or cold, didn't smoke, wasn't overly noisy or clattery, and had spent 2 seasons getting beaten up by tourists. I would call that a true reliability test, and in my opinion it passed no problem. If the bikes are anything like the scooters in that respect i think reliability won't be an issue. Just have to park it where my mates won't see it because they'd take the piss and I'm shallow like that.

Some great comments in the video and in the chat where they are all pretty much advocates of the bike. One thing to consider is that not everyone has GS/KTM/Ducati/Triumph money to spend and yet we still need new riders to keep our industry alive. This bike hits a great price/feature point and should be highly recommended for new (and old), adventure bike riders. All riders should remember that not everyone has £20k to spend on a second form of transport (for most), so should back off on derisory comments in group rides. As you say in the vid, "dont comment until you have ridden one". Personally, very impressed.

Glad you have tested this bike. I have owned mine for 2 years and 10000kms in Australia. I still love it. It does everything well. Great value. The gearbox neutral issue may be fixed with a software upgrade. Cfmoto have over the air updates from the rider app, no need to go to the dealership. I did mine just after taking delivery and noticed better fuelling, gear shifts, neutral, and cruise control. Very excited about CF moto's upcoming models. Great addition to my garage and has proven to be a reliable tourer. No issues in our extreme summers and (yes we do get them) cold and very wet winters. Stoked you liked it. Regards Adelino

Great honest review. We need to stop referencing china and just review bikes against manufacturers. £9k for all that bike and it looks great and by the sounds of it rides great and sounds good too. We need more bikes that are affordable and this one is incredible value compared to other manufacturers so at the very least it may make the opposition think twice about their prices. I’m an older fella and love riding my bike but it saddens me that every bike cafe is dominated by old bald men. Appreciate that its insurers too that are pricing younger riders out of the market but hopefully these much cheaper imports will eventually bring the price of the whole bike market down to a sensible level. I ride a 1st gen XR and could upgrade to the latest gen but it kills me to feed the ridiculous market that manufacturers have created. My son wanted to get into bikes as he thought it would be more fun and much cheaper than owning a car but had a baby when he saw the cost of bikes and checked out a couple of insurance quotes. Very sad…. Ramble over

Its keep in a garage, no issues with corrosion and Iv yet to hook it up to a battery maintaner and battery has been perfect, it’s stood out side overnight in rain and cold on a few weekends away and started first time no problems. I wouldn’t worry about px values, when the purchase price is low to start with. What matters is the cost of ownership. BMWs depreciate a lot from a higher starting point. Spend £23k on a GS and expect to get 65% back after 3 years for a trade in. That’s £8050 spent over 3 years, almost the entire cost of a new 800MT.

Heavy industry in China has really progressed. Quality parts, machining, manufacturing, and materials are always possible to me made. IMO if I was an upstart brand entering a new market, the last thing I would want to do is send over a piece of garbage knowing full well the motorcycle media would absolutely eviscerate it. The biggest question is the supply chain- knowing you won’t be marooned somewhere on a bike that can’t be commonly repaired. The KTM partnership is solid. I for one welcome more competition in the motorcycle world. It forces our overlords (especially in the world of ADV) to innovate and makes our lives as consumers generally better.

The latest adventure bikes from CFMOTO and Benelli are looking and performing fantastic right now, and being a grand or two below their European and Japanese counterparts just adds to their appeal. Reliability and weathering/rusting is getting better with each release, just the dealer and parts network need a bit more attention, but what an adventure market we now have!!! Great review and insight TMF!!

@fredricgreene9857
@fredricgreene9857 Ай бұрын
@@AsmodeusT , I don't disagree with the view regarding resale value however my mate has just swapped his 1200 gsa for a 1250 gsa, the 65 plate he sold has halved in the 5 years he's had it and the 1250 he's replaced it with he paid 13k for a bike that was probably pushing 19k or so when new so all of a sudden depreciation on a cf moto doesn't matter.
@AsmodeusT
@AsmodeusT Ай бұрын
@fredricgreene9857 You are right that it's not just less expensive brands that have that problem. I personally wouldn't buy a bike or car brand new that would lose lots of money like the example you gave. I made that mistake only once and now am very careful. For instance, a Triumph T120 looses far less in depreciation. It will be interesting to see if the 800MT holds its value.

@@michaelcase8574 Doest’t have to be like that. I’ve seen Chinese brands offering 6 years and then the brand left the country or even the whole EU in 2 or 3 years, because they didn’t reach the sales they expected. I also buyed a protection guard for my cooling fans ans a battery tender. In total i costed my 14 000 Euro's. I have it for a year now and i havent got any problems yet . It is true that most consumer electronics are made in China, and that you can't get away from buying good with some parts made in China, but that's not a reason to buy an entire motorcycle manufactured in China. I'm not saying don't buy it, I just had to address that logic. I do wonder what dealer support and resale value would look like.
@tonyjourneyman1944
@tonyjourneyman1944 Ай бұрын
Resale won't be great. But if you own it for 5+ years it becomes less of an issue, the money you lose on resale is compensated by the money you didn't have to spend buying add ons and the lower purchase price.
@barrydaly7174
@barrydaly7174 Ай бұрын
I'm not sure what your cut off point would be though, is it 50 60 90% parts made in China but no more ok? No if it is 100%. What if they put the wheels on in Austria? That would probably at 2 grand on it's own though so... I really think as Motorcyclists we are going to make our decisions on good rider feed back and reviews such as Andy's not where they are built. The real impact from China will be in Global E Cars purchases. They are waiting for the likes of Tesla to do the Full R&D on the likes of self drive etc, then copy the results and make them half price ,after all they have the infrastructure to make the batteries now.
@busterrabbit

Dealer support and spare parts can't be any worse than "prestige" Italian brands like Benelli, Aprillia and MV. As far as Chinese quality goes, they can and do make whatever you want, Apple and Tesla are made in China along with the majority of branded goods in the world. The only issue is that unless you have your own quality control staff in China the minute your back is turned they can substitute components for cheaper alternatives given half a chance. As CF Moto actually make the engines (and possibly the entire 790 bikes, and 125cc for KTM) plus using Bosch components, the overall quality is probably similar to other brands. I've had BMWs since the mid-1970s and the quality fell off a cliff after the 1100/1150 models and the 1200s were introduced. My current LC R1200R Sport, bought new in 2015 was a replacement for one which caught fire due to a wiring fault after 59 miles!! The days of Chinese is cheap and poor quality are long gone. I remember they used to say Japanese bikes were cheap and poorly made, not like those "solid dependable" British bikes. Makes me laugh.

Great review as always and I think I can allay any concerns to quality and reliability. A friend and I bought 2 of these and prepared them with an ABS switch and Bark Busters for an Australian outback tour through Flinders Ranges and outback central Australia. Both bikes covered more than 5,000 kms off road and were not treated kindly. Both CFMoto 800MT’s were bullet proof, neither suffered any issues but for fuel surging when the tank is brimmed (outback fuel considerations) Both riders have had many GS’s and I currently have a Ducati Multistrada V4S and an Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory. Admittedly I did cop flak from mates when I bought it but it is a game changer to anyone that rides one. Incredible value and just a great bike to ride for many hours non stop, very comfortable.

I don’t have a problem buying a Chinese manufactured bike. I don’t have a problem with build quality or warranty… BUT, I would challenge the assumption that more tech is always better… for me I would prefer this bike with NO quick shifter, NO TFT (a dial will do), NO connectivity and NO modes. The less tech there is the more pure and engaging the riding experience. More tech does not equal more enjoyment.. I can’t help thinking that without all that nonesense fitted this bike could a grand cheaper and all the better for it. This is true of ALL manufacturers, not just CF Moto. Good test though Andy.. enjoyed watching.

I’ve ridden with a chap with an 800 MT a few times and it’s a good looking bike and very well equipped for the money. He’s had it since last November and as far as I know not had any problems with it. He did mention the gearbox being a bit tight/clunky at the start but it loosened up after 1000 or so miles. I think some of the bigger manufacturers could learn a thing or two when it comes to extras, warranty and overall price. Specing up something similar with a similar equipment level could add £5k to an already costly purchase.

I own a CLX 700 Heritage, and I think it's a fantastic bike. I've had it for nearly a year now and put about 6500 km on it, no real issues to talk about at all. Considering what I paid for it, it was an easy decision. It seems CFMOTO is about to make a splash, as we see more positive reviews pop up, and prices for these bikes remain incredibly competitive. Thanks for the honest review mate, cheers!

They need to get over the fact about being Chinese made. The basic fact is they are good bikes and great value. People need to look at their own history before pointing fingers at others. I have usually bought Ducati Multi Stradas in the past and they come at a premium however I would have that bike and the cash difference in my back pocket instead of buying any of the premium brands.

Benelli trk702 next please. Local dealer here is still giving the luggage with the 800mt. It all looks good stuff. I don't have a problem with copying. Let's face it if more manufacturing would take good points from other bikes and use them it would be better . When you look at the price of the bmw gs 900 and triumph 900 this bike is definitely a bargain but only if you hold onto it as the second hand values are much lower. The only grip I have is after market parts and upgrades available compared to mainstream brands. I know from a couple of guys who like to do self maintenance that parts can take a long time.

This is a great looking machine, and is exactly what i want. I had a chinese 125 and i did 2 tours of around 400 miles around Scotland and it did not miss a beat. Had a couple of issues, however it never let me down actually on the road. Maybe i had a good one, however i would be really happy to have another one.

Another great review Mr Flyer, this bike is now top of my test ride list.I have test ridden the new Tiger 900 GT pro and that is a great bike to ride but not as good looking as this and is almost 50% dearer with the extras. Shame the nearest agent is 300 miles away from me but what's not to like at this price?
@TwinPotMan
@TwinPotMan Ай бұрын
TMF, I think you're entirely right to be open-minded about Chinese-made bikes, or indeed, those made in India, because if these machines have sufficient quality and affordability they will act as a moderator on the pricing by other manufacturers. You only have to think back to the days of "grey imports", which had exactly this effect. To illustrate, I had a new R12 NineT as a courtesy bike while mine was being serviced recently and I was truly shocked that the MRRP is over £16K before options, for a bike which is, when all said and done, fairly basic and limited in its useability.

Not long bought my 800MT. Wanted something to tour on with a pillion and my fireblade isn’t that bike (still kept it though). Tried the Africa Twin (nice bike, too expensive) and the transalp (not bad, bit boring, no kit at all!) and then went and gave the 800MT a go after a chat with Michael Mann when I saw him at super bike factory. Test rode the 800MT touring and instantly wanted it. Put my deposit down and collected it a week later. Brilliant bike, well put together, fun engine and so much kit. Fog lamps, up and down quick shifter, heated grips, heated seat, hand guards, crash bars, fog lights, Nav, Bluetooth etc etc list goes on! Really happy with my purchase and at £110 a month on PCP, how can you not?

They're an excellent motorcycle. I recently bought a transalp and decided against the Suzuki DE800 and Cfmoto, after riding them, because I didn't want a bike that "big". The kit on that bike is fantastic when compared to the others, adjustable suspension, tubeless tyres, handguards, bash plate, quick shifter and more. The mt450 is gaining some popularity as well.

Hi Andy, I went to look at one 3 months ago, I found it a bit top heavy, but it did have all the luggage on. I went on a FB forum to get some feedback from owners, I don’t think it had traction control on the first batch this year, the throttle needs a re map because it’s jerky. The weirdest thing was that the bikes are old/new stock. I asked at the dealership if they are new bikes, apparently the UK bikes were made in 2022. The other con was TFT problems, I’m not sure if it was the odd one. Lovely looking bike…. But KTM , reports of engine problems at 20,000 miles. Really enjoyed the video, I was really close to buying one of these, perhaps I’ll regret it later, then perhaps not.

The sport bikes 450 SR and SRS I rode surprised me a lot. The 450 MT still waiting on that, they sold out and stock are like gone to pre orders. To be honest if I could have a 450 sports bike Heritage and adventure I would be happy. Like the 80s all over again. I had a Suzuki RGV 250, XR400 & CB250RS

CFMoto have been quietly working away on stuff like this for a long time, they also seem serious about making improvements wherever they can, without rinsing the customer, so far anyway. This particular bike is great value for money and looks well built. One thing that Japanese and Chinese manufacturers in general have always been good at is looking to the future, they always play the long game and usually to their benefit. I don't think it will take long before the western manufacturers will have to compete, instead of bending their customers over the counter as they have been doing for quite some time now 😁
@peterpearce5173

Hi Andy, great review. I am sure most people turned their noses up at the Japanese bikes when they first arrived and also the Indian made Royal Enfield's but in both cases they have been proved wrong. One advantage of having a cheaper Chinese range is that it might force the other brands to up their game and lower their prices a bit.
@StratfordWingRider
@StratfordWingRider Ай бұрын
I think CF Moto are doing some great things, but two things I don’t think will they will be able to shortcut to. Decades of improvements and lessons learned - the big Japanese four have all had their lessons learned over the years. This takes time and energy to get right. The benefits of this is in the end product still strong after decades. This is hard to bang out in a few years. See Fortnines recent video on Hondas manufacturing for what I mean. Second point is - I think CFMoto being cheaper - will mean second hand market CFMotos will always be cheap - which means their value will plummet, because it’s the “feature” of a Chinese bike? Not sure if that dramatic value loss will suit all riders. Second hand Japanese bikes are renown for relatively trouble free motoring - hence why I keep buying them. Anyway, it remains to be seen - I wouldn’t say no to trying one out - and maybe buying one - one day. 😂

WOW, a great looking bike, and a review that wasn't quite what I expected. Sounds to me that this bike should definitely wake some of the usual manufacturers up. Not many other bikes in this category gives you that amount of standard fittings, especially at that price. Having read a lot of other comments, sounds like the reliability question is answered in a positive way too. Did we not have a similar scenario when Japanese manufacturers first came onto the European market?. Wonder what happened there.
