2024 Circle of Excellence: Niagara Outdoor Landscaping

Niagara Outdoor Landscaping’s “Distillery District” is a backyard with a sleek, modern look that compliments an old schoolhouse that’s been converted into a private residence.
When Greg Brunet, cofounder of Niagara Outdoor, met the client at a golf tournament, the homeowner said they were having trouble finding a landscape design that truly solves the backyard's elevation challenges in a compelling way, and asked if Niagara Outdoor would be interested.
“I said, ‘yeah, I would love an opportunity for my team have a kick at it,’” Brunet said.
Ultimately, the design created by Niagara Outdoor set itself apart from the others.
“I think it was just that kind of innovative, unique, and creative design that essentially landed us the job,” he said.
The backyard features a dining area beneath shade sails, a cozy, sunken retreat in the deck by a tall, concrete barrier that reduces noise from a nearby highway. The focal point of the yard is a circular concrete board deck with a curved staircase doubling as amphitheater-style seating. The other centre piece of the yard is a container pool encased with spray foam insulation for improved energy conservation, and concrete boarding to match the look of the concrete walls.
