Well done Josh! I 💯 agree with this car being better than the Corolla in terms of full ICE. I would also recommend people to take either the LX or Sport trim over the EX and Touring mainly due to still-questionable reliability of the 1.5L turbo engine. I do want to correct you about the base model though. Honda did released the LX trim when the 2022 Civic first came out. The MSRP for 2022 LX was $22,550 (including destination charge). Announced from October 2022, they initially discontinued it for 2023 and so on. However, due to rising demands to bring it back, the LX trim returns to the lineup and continues for most of 2023 and then 2024. This also lead to their decisions to bring the LX trim back for the Honda CR-V and Honda Pilot as well.

Hello! I completely agree with the base engine being more reliable and I personally didn’t feel a need to have any more power than was available! That’s also really interesting I wonder if it was a regional thing or something they tried out for specific markets because I can tell you here in my area they never offered an LX and it didn’t arrive until the following model year (same with our CR-V here, it was EX as base at launch for the first full year and I know that because I’d been shopping for one and was annoyed by the lack of an LX base model, LOL!)

Just delightful. Completely agree with your enthusiastic take on the car. I just bought a CRV touring sport - which I love - and the truth is that this Civic is virtually identical to the inside of my car. Which is a great thing. Honda's are safe, simple and just enjoyable to own and drive.

Thank you! Same here to everything except Acura because by the time I could afford an Acura, they’d gotten rid of the one I always wanted (the final gen TL with the 3.7L SHAWD). But totally agree, I feel comfortable buying and driving either at this point. Minus the few that have had turbo and transmission issues in the last 5 years.
@lji2000
@lji2000 8 ай бұрын
@@joshjamescars Consider yourself blessed that you didn't purchase the 3.7L SH-AWD. I had the 2010 model with the 6-speed manual. It was going to be my long-term car, but there were issues with oil consumption with this engine. This was really uncommon with Honda/Acura engines at the time. The 3.5L engine on the other hand was rock solid. There's a reason Honda / Acura dropped the 3.7L from its stable. With the current Honda models, stay away from. the 1.5T engine. Blown head gasket issues after 3-4 years. The naturally aspirated 2.0L engines as is the case in your mom's car are the way to go. My 2014 Accord with the 2.4L naturally aspirated engine with the CVT is about to hit 200k. This is the idea with my ES and GX as well 😊.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 8 ай бұрын
@lji2000 I had no idea! But yes! That 3.7 SHARES-AWD fully loaded with the manual was exactly what I was thinking of, haha! Guess I dodged a bullet there. And like you said, while newer engines have had a lot of problems, I’m surprised that one did too. And yes, I completely agree I’m not interested in Honda or Toyotas turbos. Keeping our V6 Camry and V8 GX for as long as we can!

Excellent video and I agree with every point you make about the new Honda Civic. We ended up buying a 2025 Civic Sport with the 2.0L (non-turbo) engine $250.00 below MRSP for my wife to replace her 2010 Corolla. The 2025 Sport is even better now with standard blind spot monitoring and heated power side mirrors.

Love your review of this Civic! So funny hearing your mom’s warning. 😂🤣 I bought a brand new 2023 Civic Touring sedan in January 2023. I’d been driving my ‘02 Civic LX (7th gen) for 18 years and desperately needed a new(er) car. Honda went back to their design roots and absolutely knocked it out of the park with the 11th gen redesign! I love the understated, polished exterior paired with the semi-luxury interior. The long, low hood and LED headlights are so sharp! Mine is meteorite metallic gray with a two-tone black/gray interior (gray seats). I think the gray has a slight blue undertone to it. Adding the subtle sparkle makes it just gorgeous. Very classy! It’s a beautiful car and I’m super happy with it. We’re a Honda family and Honda’s interior build quality always felt more premium than Toyota to me. And for all the reasons you said, I’d highly recommend the 11th gen Civic! My only gripe is it’s so BIG! It’s now the size of a ‘90’s Accord! 🤨 (Definitely not a fan of that.)
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 7 ай бұрын
That’s fantastic!! The touring is a great car with the Bose sound system too. My mom traded in a white 08 Civic for this one and my dad also had an 02 Civic LX which he traded in for an Insight back in 2020. They are also a Honda family. And my mom has the same complaint about the size of the new Civic. When I was growing up in the early 90s, she had an Accord wagon and purposely downsized to the civic once I was driving on my own. That “downsize” has now gotten her right back to the same size car as her old Accord. She also looked at the HR-V but that has grown substantially too and so she crossed it off the list. And I completely agree-the Civic has always (oddly) been way more upscale looking inside and out than the Corolla. I love my Toyotas but I don’t know why Toyota can’t make a premium looking compact sedan. My mom’s 08 Civic was WORLDS better than the dumpy Corolla of the time. Congrats on the new car and I hope it gives you another 21 years of driving!

@@joshjamescarsWhen I bought it, inventory shortages were still a huge issue. My first choice is a Honda Civic, but my local Honda dealership had had no inventory for over 2 years! So I figured I might consider a Corolla. But Toyota’s inventory was worse than Honda’s! They had absolutely NOTHING for me to even test drive. Honda had finally just started getting inventory again when I bought. I’d gotten some money together and I saw a few new Civics on their website had just come in. So I immediately ran down to grab one before someone else did. I was fortunate to get one with gray seats instead of black. I’m super interested in a Corolla Cross. I’ve never had an SUV. I need small-ish, inexpensive vehicles. And I’m single with no kids, so a RAV 4 is a bit much. But even now, good luck even finding a Corolla Cross to test drive!

Hello! For me the Integra is just too expensive to even consider. I think it looks hot but they didn’t make any changes beyond the body to a Civic. You get the same engines, same CVT (and same manual), and same dashboard and screens that you get in the Civic so personally I’d go with a Civic hatch instead. Now, the Type S is interesting but $50K is a little much for a Civic/Integra. Also nope, not Kauai that was just the Eastern end of Oahu out by Hawaii Kai and Hanauma Bay on the way to Kaneohe.

Like you, Josh, I have been a huge Toyota/Lexus fan for many years. Our youngest kid was heading back to school on the West Coast last fall, and I could no longer feel safe having him drive his 2012 Subaru solo the 2000+ mile trip back to college. I had been in a rental Corolla for a couple of weeks prior when my Lexus was in the bodyshop, and I found it to be loud, underpowered and cheaply made. Nonetheless, I was willing to consider a Corolla hybrid to replace his older car, primarily for the gas mileage. We also test drove a 2023 Civic LX hathcback and purchased one about two weeks later. The level of fit and finish and driving comfort is waaaay ahead of the Corolla and our old Subaru. Also, no Toyota dealer nonsense with "market adjustments" and very limited inventory. By the way, the hatchback LX comes with some decently attractive 16" alloy wheels in place of those cheapo wheelcovers and rides better than than the Sport trim with its 18" wheels 👍

What would you say to someone that is on the fence to buying one because it is one of the most stolen cars? How does its reliability compare to a Corolla?
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars Ай бұрын
The fact of the matter is theft can happen to any car out there. Look what’s happening in eastern Canada. All makes and models get stolen. You also have to look at the crime rate in your area. If theft is a legitimate problem and you don’t have a way to combat it like parking in a locked garage or something, you might not want to get a brand new car. Get some cheap used car that isn’t as attractive to thieves. And be sure to have good insurance which will replace the car should it get stolen. Reliability is good though the Corolla hybrid will be not reliable than either gas model.

Corolla hybrid is by far the most efficient and cheapest car you can get. And there is a civic hybrid coming out later this year. That’s the one I would wait for if you’re not in a rush.

$24,000 MSRP on the paper. After taxes/ registration fees/other paper work fees, the total came out to $29,350. If you finance, you will be paying additional $4,000 for the total interest. So at the end, this LX base model will run you the total of around $33,000!!!!!!! So it's not the cheapest car under 25,000 car at all. Numbers do run up real quick at the dealer ship. Just bought my 2024 LX in December of 2023. But it a great car though. And the V-Tec really pull Bro Dude!!

Yes, I think everyone knows that MSRP isn’t the actual number you pay, and taxes and other fees vary widely by locale. You paid a ton in taxes and fees, yikes! And you are right at the finance charges, that’s why it’s super important to try as best you can to pay it off as quickly as possible so you don’t pay one more cent than you have to. And congratulations on the new car! It’s a terrific little commuter!

I’m a Toyota person who grew up in a Honda household so I’ve always been pretty open to either one. Honda kind of lost their way for a bit with their turbos and transmissions having reliability issues, and now I feel like Toyota is a bit in terms of their astronomical pricing and lower quality interior materials. So for me it just depends who has the best product and this is an outstanding one! Plus there will be a hybrid coming this year too.

a cheap car compared to everything else* unfortunately car prices have just creeped up over the years, my mom bought a 2017 toyota camry se for around $25-27k which is how much you'll pay for a civic sport today! However I do agree with you though that the civic is a great car at this price range and especially the lower trims with the 2.0 na engine which is a better engine than the 1.5 for reliability imo, I also like the design this time around and the driving/safety features you get.
@joshjamescars

Right, “cheap” is always going to be relative. You’d have said the same thing in 2017 about the Camry relative to what a 2012 would have cost as well. And, relative to the fact that a Tacoma tops out at $65K today, $23K is incredibly cheap for a new car in 2024.

@@joshjamescars Thanks. I know they have moved the civic assembly a few times, like great Britain, Indiana, and now Ontario. And they use robots too, so maybe that's why. Every car in the world outside of a Bentley or Rolls Royce is made on an automated, robotic assembly line. This isn’t the 50s. And as for servicing do be aware that in a modern car the oil change is just one small part of a total vehicle service. There’s a lot to do with software updates and inspecting and maintaining the cameras, radar, and other tech hardware that are standard on all vehicles now too.

Haha!! No, the sad part is Acura doesn’t make anything I’m interested in. I loved the final-gen TL with the 3.7 V6 and SH-AWD but after that, their cars kind of just faded off into the land of mediocrity where Infiniti is (I’m also worried Lexus seems to be headed there too). But Honda as a mainstream brand is killing it!

Nope it’s always been offered as the “automatic” transmission option for the Integra. Since the Integra is a lightly upgraded Civic they kept the same CVT instead of giving it the dual clutch from the old ILX.

Several Honda recalls recently. Honda reliability has gone down, probably due to many of their vehicles being made in America instead of Japan.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 8 ай бұрын
Actually their issues have to do with the ZF transmission that was shared with GM and Chrysler and their newer turbo engines self destructing. So I wouldn’t buy any of those. But their hybrids and naturally aspirated base engines are solid and very dependable because they’re all based on older and proven designs. But I wouldn’t rule out an American made Honda. They’ve been building cars in Ohio for longer than I’ve been alive and my parents have both had cars from that plant that have lasted 15+ years with no major issues.
