What did they do with the split tailgate... Why. ... You're right this is an emotion vehicle and there's a lot to like, especially in the configuration you have it in. Looks like a Bronco, more or less. Front lights and grill are just modernist nonsense, and they dumped the original split tailgate which is about 18x more useful than a swinging split tailgate. This is a car where every decision in its design is for utility and they fail at the tailgate. I don't get it. The engine being a V6 maximum is not going to evoke much emotion either, but it is not indefensible as the original Broncos were always moderately powered and also had V6 even though they quickly started to offer V8 as well into the 1970s. Still the Jeep is even less emotionally evocative and I'd pick the Bronco over the Jeep any day. I'd still look at the new Land Rover Defender first. I'd say that's in the same category of vehicles as the new Bronco and the Rubicon.
