Congratulations, I'm an old guy, back on the 1970s and early 80s I was a biker member but I was young and I could take all hard life and it was nothing short of a miracle I went through, in those days Harleys require lots of attention and I did lots of the work myself but in the club we had a mechanic biker shop. If I was to ride today Honda shadow would have been my choice

I got a 22 phantom. Yes the gauge has been changed. The font is different, they moved the neutral light from the gauge to the tipple tree, and moved the turn signal indicter to the gauge. The whole rear end except the taillight is different. Looking at the rear brake I'm thinking that could be retrofitted to an older bike. I'm also thinking of getting a 2024 headlight and retrofitting a projector in to it since the lens is clear. This is the first video i've seen of this bike up close. it's got me thinking of updates I can do to mine.

I agree. With upgrades to the intake, and exhaust and a tune after the warranty is up in 12 months it’s gonna make a huge difference. I looked at a lot of bikes, and picked this one for the look, and the reliability that comes with this engine. I have seen some really promising increases in power from minor upgrades.

How tall are you? Would a 6’2 rider be cramped?
@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 9 ай бұрын
I’m a tad over 6ft, and I fit comfortably. It’s definitely a more aggressive stance bike for a cruiser, what it lacks in over all size, it makes up for in handling. I have a bigger cruiser with bags, floor board pegs that i ride for longer distances. I have a friend who has an older model shadow spirit, and he’s easily 6’3 300lbs, and he’s told me a bunch of times, he prefers riding his shadow over his 1800cc Indian. So I think a 6’2 guy will prob be ok. If I was riding my phantom long distances I would prob put peg and shift extenders on it. I ride the shadow for fun. It’s just a fun bike to ride, smooth, handles much better than most cruisers, and is a great bike for riding into work, zipping around town, or if you outfit it right, long distance trips imo.

Hey man! This is a super sick bike, and I’m considering it as my first one. I would invest in doing like a black and yellow color scheme for mine. Question… how is the power and torque? I know it’s not enough to be super unforgiving, but would you say you’re still able to crank the throttle and zip around? I wouldn’t want it to be like the Honda rebel where people get bored of it after a while
@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 11 ай бұрын
I would say it’s obviously not the most powerful bike you can buy, most of the power and torque is down low in the rpm’s. So it feels a lot more powerful than it really is. They list the 0-60 time at around 7 seconds, but I think those numbers are for the older carbureted engines bc using my phone I came in closer to 5 seconds. My friend has a v star 950 with 51 hp compared to my 47. He has the bagger with windshield and my bike is definitely quicker. The 750 is a nice motor, I ll prob go bigger at some point, but will never get rid of this bike. My only complaint is I feel like it really doesn’t like anything over 75mph, and honesty it wants to cruise around 65-70. I wish it had a 6th gear bc it has the power to do it. I had her up to 92 mph and she was screaming and felt like she would keep going, but it’s a cruiser and your getting a lot of wind resistance and turbulence, so it wasn’t a fun 92. Overall I doubt you would be disappointed with it. If your looking to cruise around, and enjoy yourself your gonna love the bike. If your looking for massive highway driving, you might want to consider a slightly bigger engine with 6 gears.

Oh I should add, I drive it everyday to work and back and it was costing me a fortune in my v-8 truck. Like 100-120 a week. Last week it cost me 12 dollars. Just the fuel savings alone is making the payment x3
@sam.abadyah
@sam.abadyah 11 ай бұрын
@@bigboybobbousmc thank you so much for the in-depth review! This helps a lot to weigh the options. I’m a first time rider, and I was considering the chief dark horse bobber but a 116ci v twin and 120 ft/lbs of torque might be too dangerous for starting off haha. So this shadow phantom seems absolutely perfect, just wish they had a blacked out color scheme. Hopefully you can hang in there for the 12 month warranty thing before you can remove the baffles!! I’d wanna hear the thing roar on day one… but I understand not wanting to screw anything up. And yeah I get the gas aspect… I have a Chrysler 300C V8 and it’s a guzzler. I hope to get this bike as some point! Keep on riding bro, and you should do some ride alongs as well. I’d watch it!
@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 11 ай бұрын
@@sam.abadyah yea 120lbs of torque is gonna be a hard bike to ride as a beginner or novice. Any wrong move with the throttle is gonna be hard to recover. The hp to weight ratio would be insane. Prob 0-60 times around 3 seconds. That rivals the top sports cars of today. Actually sounds fun. I did get a chest mount for my phone today so I could record a ride along video, so coming soon I’m gonna put something together, do a better job of talking about the bike now that I got 800 miles on it.

Nice. I love my '06 Spirit in Candy Orange with chrome look. Do yourself a favor-don't mess up your bike with a lot of mods. The stock exhaust is good. For me, upgrade a louder horn, add the passenger seat option leave the rest alone. It will keep its value better if you don't mess with it too much. Congrats.
@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about buying an upgraded exhaust just to make it loud enough for people to hear in cars for safety, figured I could always put the stock back on if I wanted to part with it.

@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 10 ай бұрын
I highly doubt it does, they don’t usually put slipper clutches in non sport bikes, and I can confirm if you shift down outside the rpm range, the tire will lock for a second, as the transmission gets up too speed. So I would say I highly doubt it.

@@bigboybobbousmc thank you for that ...yes I was hoping you wouldn't say that.😄🤣😆.. a lot of bike have the slipper and assist clutch these days.. the rebel 500 for example, and the Kawasaki eliminator, to name a few. @@lukedrifter100 this bike is really intuitive, I don’t even think about what gear I am in. I just feel the bike and can tell I either need to down shift or up shift. I can’t explain it, but Honda got this bike right. You really feel like you are a part of this machine when your on it. I have road some other bikes that you really feel disconnected from the bike, and the road.
@bigboybobbousmc
@bigboybobbousmc 10 ай бұрын
@@lukedrifter100 I have a Yamaha v star touring edition. It’s belt driven not shaft driven like the phantom. And it’s no where near as smooth when cruising or changing gears, and sometimes I find myself in the wrong gear, bc the bike is too quiet, and you really can’t feel what needs to happen, compared. I’m saying that, the phantom is a small bike, and engine, so I use it differently than I do the much bigger v star. If I’m cruising with my lady we ride the v star. Since this video I did buy the second seat and pegs, for the phantom but it is no where near as comfortable as riding the v star for the passenger.

Ten years of that non-intuitive horn, turn indicator orientation...Honda needs to admit their mistake and abandon this change that goes against the entire industry, and their own design history. I'm curious how many riders have been injured due to activating their turn indicators when reaching for the horn in an emergency.
