If I was driving the car on the street only and in cold weather or where the AWD is necessary, I would choose the GR. If You plan to track the car, it is Elantra N all day. The GR overheaqts on the track and the brakes can't stand up all day. I have tracked the Elantra N without mods and with a tune making over 320 WHP and it gets heat-soaked by the end of the day, but it performs well and takes the abuse. For me, it is about knowing what you want out of a car and picking one of these good options.
@thurules5 ай бұрын
why does GR overheat on track?
@jessicaphoenix13125 ай бұрын
@@thurules One of the problems is the small brakes. The other reason, apparently is that the 3 cylender (instead of 4) appears to be overtuned instead of the undertuned engine in the Elantra N. For example, the Elantra N OEM comes with about 240 whp, but with a tune and sparkplugs I am getting 320! That thing is undertuned and has bigger and more capable brakes than the GR. The GR, however, is AWD so has better grip and would be better in weather and does fine on the road where overheqting isn't going to be an issue.

Hyundai for the win. Better interior, adjustable suspension, rear spoiler standard, better tires, an actual armrest for you and the passenger, much better radio, more drive modes that are so easy to go in and out of, it’s just a much better value and more practical. Just the exhaust alone is so much better. Another aspect is the dealers. Toyota dealers are clowns. Huge mark ups, dealer add ons and they will literally call you and ask your highest bids on the GR. That was my experience when looking at them for over 6 months when they first came out. I have owned 3 N cars, two VN and one Kona N. Easy straightforward transaction and no BS.

The biggest deal breaker with the GR is that you can't even drive it past 85 mph (ECU logged) or it completely voids your warranty if the car goes up in flames or blows the engine. I own, an 05 STI and a VB wrx, but im always rooting for the Elantra N.. btw ill never understand this kind of journalism. Its a super biased review no matter how removed you try to be.. There is going to be confirmation bias, for the GR corolla because you bought it. So the comparison is a bit diminished. As someone who owns neither car, I dont have a dog in this race, but perhaps a better veiw point would be materialized if the review was from someone who didnt own one of the cars in the comparison.. That being said, the interior in the GR corolla is unacceptable for that price point, and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. for the same msrp, a civic type R can be had (hypothetically) and that car absolutely demolishes the GR corolla in every way. The N is the clear winner here, even with its dismal FWD setup.. Get the AT, and enjoy.
@Realistick6 ай бұрын
I understand why you'd believe that, but I think you need to understand my position too. This is my job, I bought the GRC because, sure, it grabbed my attention, but it was also to make content with and I think you missed the part where I said I am trying to replace the GR Corolla with a new long term review car. The EN is great and it easily earned my recommendation, but it is no clear winner, if it was, I'd buy it... and then people would call me biased for that too! I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is when I say that a car is awesome, the EN falls under that label, yet I have more fun driving the GR Corolla. Which is preference and why I don't just call the GRC the better car period. Also, the CTR is not the same price, not even close (the EN and GRC are closer...$7k difference before the Honda's insane markups). As for the interior, it's an econobox with 300 hp, 3 pedals and awd, not a $40k luxury compact commuter. It would be nice to have a nicer cabin, but these sell out because of the performance and the experience, not the amenities, just like the 05 STI (;

Also, I put Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on the GRC and that fixed a lot of the problems with driving near the limits. definitely does everything well.....the biggest turn off is the maintenance. Other cars can do the same tricks, with less involved maintenance/cost. For example, the GTI differential service requires right temperature and OEM fluids, which equates to more time/cost involved to do a simple drain/fill service. On the Type R, you change your Transmission fluid...and the LSD is serviced automatically because they share the same fluid. No need to make sure it is the right temperature or even have to use OEM fluid, you can use BETTER fluids. The end result, the Type R does it better in performance, and yet easier to maintain.
