I took the hunter safety course when I was 12 in Springfield IL in 78' to be able deer hunt, I think it was on an Army base, Army sharp shooters/snipers put on a "shooting demonstration" for us mere mortals and holy cow could they shoot, none of the weapons they shot were scoped and they were hitting targets first shot every time at 50yds that looked no bigger than a half dollar, they also had targets much farther away and were nailing them, it was an awesome display of their ability.

I got a doe in douglas county last year and little did i know you are not allowed to shoot a doe before a certain date in douglas county! So i reported it like you normally do when you get a deer and i taged it field dressed it and took it to the meat processor. A few months later a conservation officer called me and wanted to meet me and talk to me about the doe. He gave me a ticket for the doe it was over $200! I was like 4 or 5 days from when doe would be fair game! In the DNR hunting guide there was a small paragraph covering this and i missed it! Also if you get a license from Rural King make sure the people know what the hell they are doing because i went to get my license and the manager that did my license didnt actually give me a license he just gave me tags for the deer and a habitat stamp!!! He did this to alot of hunters all over Edgar county!!!!

Baiting in Illinois is banned year round. The "10 days after removal" applies to people who have been caught. The area is not to be hunted for 10 days after the bait is completely removed. You can be ticketed for baiting any time, whether hunting over it or not.

The reason for the baiting ban, is to keep down deer feeding in the exact same place, as the prions that cause Chronic Wasting Disease, are spread through the nasal secretions of deer, so you don't want deer feeding in one spot, to reduce the amount of secretions, ( worse yet is that these secretions can allow the prions to become endemic in the soil for up to 12 years.

It is illegal to feed any wild game in Illinois. I am an IDNR safety instructor. I asked the officer this exact question. Yes, it is illegal to feed wild game at any time.
