Not a Toyota guy myself, but the fact that Toyota did not try to put a bunch of Tech in the new 76 is most likely to help with reliability. I say this because a lot of new vehicles from all the manufacturers seem to have way too much tech out of the gate and yet have so many problems with the extra tech added. If there is anything I have learned with my old 1993 WD21 Pathfinder, it is that simplicity generally keeps things reliable.

Fuel consumption should be better and is a huge consideration for me. I think it is a great addition to the range, it's just not for me. I also think test driving them around empty you will hardly notice a difference. bingo. suspect the v8 will be a bees dick more thirsty, unloaded, as you say, but once theres some load on there and you tune it up, you're likely to fall outside the little turbo's range and not be able to feed in more boost without significant heat soak (best case) and be more susceptable to poor tuning. probably the WORST thing for the v8 is the silly highway revs. 3k rpm... the hilux runs close to 2k rpm, thats a lot less friction. Toyota should have fixed that years ago.

This new cruiser to me feels like an homage to the J40 in certain aspects but mainly the old school KZJ70 Prado, it's definitely a touching nod to how the Prado line up somewhat started with taking the 70series body and fitting little creature comforts (e.g power windows and automatic gearbox) with a still very capable engine on a smaller scale. Definitely a bonus for people that want to enter the "Full size" Cruiser scene without having to break their wallets (take that lightly😅). I for one am happy with the addition of the 2.8 into the line-up and a plus that Toyota didn't decide too discard the V8 means they definitely thought the engine choices through.

The V6 from the 300 will be a unit of an engine in something like the 70 and to watch a review on all 3 engine types in a comparison will be interesting to watch. I am somewhat disappointed that Toyota didn't correct the rear to stop it from crab walking on roads and fishtailing on sand but I believe they didn't really see that as a major flaw.

Funny thing is that although the diesel V8 is absolutely iconic in the 70 series, it's actually only been there since 2007 (same time as the 200 series was released, in which it gets one more turbo and 60 more kilowatts). So the 70 series has actually spent longer - 23 years (1984-2007) without a V8, versus 17 years (2007-2024) with one...

Nice one Ronny I think what people have to look at is that Toyota has pulled some more horse power ( Torque ) out of this 2.8L and how much can you safely and reliably get out of this engine for its long jeopardy , if it has to be working harder to do the same as what the V8 can do . And also the V8 is so under tuned as you all would know by watching Ronnie's channel , you can safely get more power out of these V8's its just a shame that Toyota hasn't done that in the 70 series as the 200 series is twin turbo's that must produce more power than the single . Yes I understand it is more about the Torque factor with Diesels and the 70 being a more work off road vehicle than the 200 or 300 series, the automatic well 200 are only auto's why haven't they put that as a option for a V8 70 series. Is fuel economy a issue absolutely just look at how much a liter it is now and as history has shone us it is only going to keep going up so a more fuel efficient 70 would be much appreciated .
@coreygolder6503 Жыл бұрын
Horsepower and torque are different though yeah?
@gregbrown5473 Жыл бұрын
@@coreygolder6503 Yeah Corey Torque is usually produced at lower rev rang and diesels are not normally a engine that has high revs compared to a petrol engine that is. Adding turbochargers , intercoolers and a common rail like all the new diesels engines have now really make so much more torque out of a smaller engine . it also helps majorly in fuel consumption properly tuned of cause .
@coreygolder6503 Жыл бұрын
@@gregbrown5473I know they’re different but generally you can’t have one without the other too much? I’ve heard it described as, horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
@gregbrown5473 Жыл бұрын
@@coreygolder6503 well that’s a rough way of looking at it have a look at a dyno graph when there remapping the computer on electronic set up or there tuning the fuel delivery on a older engine that has had a turbo fitment done . There is two graphs one for torque the other will be your horsepower ( which is kilowatts now) yes of course if you increase your torque you will get more horsepower. But on a diesel it is more about the torque factor than the HP that your going for that comes in at a lower rev range and with out trying to get into the other mechanicals involved like different cam shafts that will have a lot to do with it to . They have apparently got more torque out of this 4cyld 2.8 ( 550 nM ) than the earlier 4.5 V8’s , not sure what the later ones are delivering .

Okay. I’ll comment. 1st off, I’m in Canada, and am deeply sad, that because of the USA, we can’t have these in our common wealth country. 2nd, I really like the subtle hints at the past, that Landcruiser put into the body work. Round headlights, stick out corner lights. And in the interior, they made the speedometer the same shape as the 40 series, speedometer bezel. 3rd, when you stated that North American trucks were too big for the narrow tracks of Australia, I thought, an F350 could not be that much wider then a loaded up 200 series Landcruiser and almost called BS. Did my research and found out, compare two stock vehicles, The F350 is 200mm wider over all, and the wheel track is 250mm wider. Now, fully mod out a 200 series, fender flares, tires and rims that widen the track, I don’t think, you’re that far off from a stock F350, but undeniably, I would not take one on the tight trails in Canada, so your point is valid!
