Wow..first real review I've watched with true candor on a car's performance. Great job guys. I liked the real world application on the body roll when turning. I was debating on whether the GTP was that much better than the GT and this review sorts it out. Not much besides the HP difference and families aren't really racing SUVs.

I have no need for a 3 row so I'm more interested in seeing the CX-70, but the enthusiast in me hopes they put this engine/transmission combo in a sedan (or better yet a wagon)!

I drove wheezy 4 cylinder cars all my life because I hate debt and I hate car payments and so does my wife. Since 2018 we've been saving up for a new car and got a CX-90 with the less powerful engine and it's wonderful. I know it's not a 911 turbo but compared to what we had both been driving since we were in high school it's smooth like butter and just takes off when you put your foot down. Unless you need to tow I can't imagine somebody not being satisfied with the base engine.

Rumour has it that the CX 70 will be a CX 90 with five seats, not a smaller vehicle like the CX 60. Could this be a mistake made by Mazda? Cancel the CX 70, import the CX 60! Good review.

What I really hope is that the CX70 is to the CX90 what the Honda Passport is to the Pilot. I love my Passport, but if they really a Mazda equivalent I’d strongly consider it. I think the Passport is a brilliant Goldilocks vehicle in having room vs being compact, as well as being decent on the road vs being able to handle some rougher stuff. Don’t need an off roader, just something for beat to hell forest roads I’d REALLY consider it if they offered a CX70 that is a little more ruggedized (more ground clearance, higher volume tires, etc).

Great video! My first time on the channel. Just wanted to add a comment about the trim levels available to us in Canada for the CX-90 as opposed to the trims available in the US. I really wish we had one more trim in between the GT and the GT-P such as the Kuro. I would love to have the base engine with a few more options. Bring back the polymetal grey colour and the blacked out rims. I would love the option for the wine red seats as well as ventilated seats in the front. All of these extra options would be great for a family that doesn't need a high output engine that recommends premium fuel. I believe Mazda USA offers this with the Turbo Premium Plus trim (minus the wheels and seat colour). Thanks again for the great video!

Someone buying lower trims are a bit more conscious of spending money on things like digital dash, power folding mirrors, etc. Just something that you'd dread having to pay to replace out of warranty. GT trim seems like it's the sweet spot for Canada. I think I prefer the rims on the GT over black painted, machined face type on higher trims.

My issue is that you can't get all the features of the top inline 6 trims in this engine. I still want vented seats, HUD, the nicer tail lights/headlights, 360 cam whatever is missing, I don't have the option page next to me but this GT is missing quite a bit. Why do brands keep trying to reinvent the shifter? I have Acura and Mazda in the driveway, and I love the fact my Mazda, the least sporty and luxury of the 2 has a good ole fashioned shifter. I feel like I'm driving the Mazda, whereas the Acura feels like a video game with button shifters...and it's a Type S!

I hate that they made the lower trims with analog gauge cluster and you have to go higher in trim for the digital. Why do that? On every other vehicle I’ve test driven what ever gauge cluster is available is standard period with the only difference maybe being driving modes/color changes.

I test drove the cx 90 the other day and really wanted to love it and buy it...but the stutter was noticeable every stop and go we had...the seats were beautiful, but not comfortable...i was thinking it would feel silky smooth and float down the road...but it wasn't as nice as i was hoping...I also test drove a Santa Fe, Palisade, and pilot...the Santa Fe's were AMAZING!! I was in total shock...super responsive and the SILKY smooth...I'm still in shock...and the Palisade...WOW! Pilot is way too loose with the steering...The cx 90 was responsive and was smooth once you got moving, but it just wasn't what I thought it would be. The seats...Hyundai had the most comfortable seats...I didn't think the cx 90 was terrible but I was ready to get out of the seats pretty quick..I felt I could have driven the Hyundai's for 1000 miles. Writing this I'm still shocked...I can't lie about it...Space...the Santa Fe, Palisade, and Pilot were much more spacious. I'm hoping mazda listens to some of the criticisms and make some changes. Still a beautiful car, but with the DCT transmission, uncomfortable seats, and minimal cargo, and that stutter, just wasn't for me.

With the market being what it is these days, almost everything needs to be ordered. Best to check with your local dealer if you’re looking for lot inventory. We can’t comment on whether dealers are marking up except to say it’s not as common in Canada but it does happen, so it’s best to arrive to your negotiations prepared. Hope that helps.

Would have loved to see a traditional engine/transmission in the lower trim models.. The CX-9s torque convertered 6spd auto was so tractable at low speeds/real world driving, and just falls away to do it's job, unnoticed. Hopefully Mazda can make some software updates to smooth things out.

Happy to answer - which specific aspect(s) are you looking for?

@Modern Motoring 1. I mean overall as a reliability and resale value in future.. 2. In canada palisade has 5years warranty powertrain and 3 years electronics warranty and Cx90 will have 3years warranty...Palisade is giving me extended warranty till 7years by paying extra $2300, so is it good to buy that for peace of mind or to increase resale value as it's transferable? 3. Also, cx90 is forcing leather seats and captain chairs to get 360 camera.. so how good is to have 360 camera in these bigger cars? Palisade is giving 360 camera even in lower trim with Fake leather seats and a bench in 2nd row.. 4. Cx90 even a demo car has not arrived yet in canada.. not sure when will my delivery will come may be another 4-6months.. but palisade is available next week. So should I cancel my deposit for cx90 and get palisade or cx90 is much better than palisade?

@@akhere07 That’s a lot to unpack! We can tell you this: people question it, but Hyundai has improved in recent years both in reliability and in resale value. It sounds like in your specific situation you may get more value out of the Palisade, mostly because you can get it now and it offers the balance of features you’re looking for. As for an extended warranty, we rarely recommend it when a vehicle is going to be well-maintained. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Korean twins Kia Telluride / Hyundai Palisade The Hyundai sales manager put it best, “on paper you can’t beat it.” He’s right, you know. That’s why we actually drive vehicles instead of just going by numbers. If you just HAVE to carry 8 passengers and are too cool for a minivan, this could be on your list. But it was quickly kicked off ours. Seats are less comfortable than the quite firm CX-90, ride was louder and rougher. Quite the vibration. The Korean twins just seemed cheap in comparison. The drive was not inspiring and the AWD system failed to maintain traction with just a little throttle into the dealership (car popped over the hill).

MDX Type S vs Mazda CX90?
@jackykimes
@jackykimes Жыл бұрын
add $15k for similar performance. My comparison to the MDX: The fiercest competitor to the new CX-90 is Acura’s MDX. It drives well and looks sharp. They trade points back and forth. Example: MDX has car-like steering/pedal feel while CX-90 displays Mazda’s design philosophy of road feedback and heavier steering/pedals. Do you want to drive a nicer Honda? Then buy the MDX. Do you want more of a driver’s car? Then buy the Mazda. I felt very confident while driving the CX-90 with it’s rear-wheel biased AWD, even in rain. The Acura seats are absolutely fantastic, the most comfortable out there. I seriously can’t gush enough over the MDX seats. Oh, and both front seats get identical treatment. The passenger isn’t relegated to second class adjustments, lol. The Mazda seats look nicer but are quite a bit firmer. We’ll see how my bottom end handles a long trip but after two hours I was ready to get out of my CX-90 for a bit. With the seat firmness addressed, the Mazda is still more refined overall. Despite the firmer seats, the overall ride is a little softer (and quieter) than the Acura . MDX has wind noise and floor vibration not present in the CX-90. I believe this is due to Mazda’s better suspension and noise damping control than the Advanced package Acura. The MDX Type S has air ride suspension but we did not test this trim back to back against the Mazda. Why not compare top trim to top trim? The MDX costs $15k more than a similarly dressed CX-90. I bought the very top trim Mazda for the bottom engine priced Acura. More pro’s and con’s: my Mazda has ventilated second row seats which are lacking in almost all competitors. The MDX has a removable second row console that converts between seat/armrest/removable. It’s a great design that everyone should copy. CX-90 has air conditioning vents and USB-C chargers in the third row that the Acura lacks. I can become accustomed to either entertainment control but the Mazda control ring is better than the Acura trackpad. Most of all, one must go up to the $75k Acura Type S to get decent sound. The non-S trim sound is horrific. I couldn’t listen to such bloated junk. Seriously, “she sounds hideous.” Even Mazda’s Bose sounded like even spectral response in comparison. With all the Bose 3D spatial mess turned off the CX-90 is fairly true to name, “linear.” I can live with it for a while. The dash is another area where Mazda simplicity shines. The MDX steering wheel and dash controls are much busier. In contrast I can quickly find what I need in the Mazda, which ranks high on my driving safety factor.
